Plot:
A man that is unhappy with his life gets on the train one day and ends up stopping in a town 100 years earlier.
He meets a young woman who he falls in love with.
Will he stay in 1896 to be with her, or get back to his own time and save his failing marriage?
One year ago, after I turned 50, I changed jobs and cut my work week to 3 days a week. I bought a house next to a lake and I walk to work on most days. This Mother's Day, I'm turning 51, and I'm the happiest I've ever been in my entire life. We are allowed to slow down because our time here is priceless - to enjoy the sun on our faces, the wind in our hair, the love in our hearts, until our time here is done ❤

This is one of the best movies I have seen. I am 74 years old and often yearn for the simple times of the 50's and early 60's. To me, Mark Harmon did an Oscar winning portrayal of a young man who also yearned for a more simple time...when people were friendly, caring, gentle.
Same here Kathy, I too yearn for the days of my youth of the 50's and 60's. The 60's were pretty good until Kennedy's assassination, Vietnam, Beatles heading to India and bringing New Age ideas, the hippie era...it all just kept snowballing till America as we knew it wasn't the same at all.

Your comment really hits the spot. I am 68 and like you I yearn for simpler times. Long bike rides with your pals in the country, cheese sandwiches and dandylion and burdock under a shady tree. Not an iPad, iPhone or laptop in sight. This is a wonderful film full of nostalgia. I love the main characters. In our 100 mike an hour lives today I look back to the 50s and 60s and remember the wonderful times we had.
Great movie. I grew up with my grandparents in Polish quite medival village. Old fashioned. I loved it there so much. My grenadparents were quite wealthy, big two farms. Lovely house, pond behind it, lands, forest, lake not far, fruit trees, veges, bees, horses, etc. A proper farm with own cheese, butter, bread, milk and more.
Big Land from one train station to another. My grandma died so young. My naive grandfather met another woman and before he died he put all what he had in Testament for his new woman. He left nothing for his kids. He never been a good person. Anyways, I missed the place for my whole life. Four years ago i decided to go back and bring memories back…., i traveled from France to Poland after so many years…, my heart was broken what i saw. I saw completely different place. There is No more village anymore, Its a little town. I cried so much. I saw different house, No pond behind the house, No forrest around, No spacious land. This place gone forever. This place doesnt exists anymore…., but does exists in my heart.

After the deaths of three close family members and that of a childhood friend over the last three years. About 6 months ago, God said to me.." In the eternal ages to come, only the happy times that you have had on this earth will come with you; they will be magnified a million times more... for me, one of those things is the " walking rains" as the line of rains marched across the high mountains on the island of Dominica. My husband loved Christmas and he told me before he passed" When your time is up, you know where to find me... in the Christmas village where there are a lot of people who loves Christmas as much as I do" Our lives here are so short... cheer up...you will see and experience that which has made you the happiest.
*looking* back is the way you remember it (and sometimes better than it was)---- but *going* back to look is usually a disappointment!!!

I loved my childhood home too…. and so I keep my memories alive in my heart and dreams …. and keep the feeling it gave me alive also. Sometimes in my dreams (and they don’t feel like dreams… more real than reality!) I walk my country roads …. smell the wildflowers and hear the insects… and I awake so grateful and happy….sometimes something’s can’t be taken away from you…. not if you hold on tight in your heart ❤️
The irony is that we would not have been able to watch this inspiring film about a bygone age without the Internet!

That's for sure. However, romancing about those days is fine but the reality there were problems back then. My one peeve is "Indoor plumbing which I hate due to visiting my grandmother when I was little. hate she didn't have indoor plumbing at all and showers were having two aluminum panels while the neighbors' boys sitting on the ledge of their place would try to get a sneak peek at me at 12. Luckily, I brought my towels and bucket with soap and washed up then dried up as best as I could and put my shorts, shirt and sandal and walked out of that small area to bathe quickly. At least I wasn't older than 12 but still privacy wasn't available at my grandma's place despite that i loved visiting her in that small town in Holgiun Oriente, Cuba.
Happily for me, I don’t need the Internet for another person’s memories. I have my memories. Rural living in a small, safe town where everyone knew me since before I was born. I would ride my bike 11 miles to my favorite swimming hole. On the way home I’d do a little fishing. And, as Mom instructed, be home by the time the kitchen lights come on. No cell. No radio. Just me and the frogs and the mosquitos living our best life. I’m glad this movie shows such a life to those who will never know how wonderful silence can be.

My gma had no plumbing either, heated water for the wash tub nightly- for 10 children; they washed face & neck, hands & feet. Whole body was couple times a week.
Every child graduated college with a Masters except my uncle w/epilepsy, he got a bachelor’s degree.
This movie is so sweet. It soothes the soul. I didn't know Mark Hammond played roles like this. I think many people nowadays (especially, in 2024, when the world seems to have gone mad), long for more connection, less technology and slowing down ❤

Remembering the 50s as a child the knowledge I learned helped me cope with things as future decades came about. I didn't mind the 70s and wished so much I could have better salaries when it was tough having to provide assistance to parents that wanted a "free ride" in life. That made things harder for my older sister and me who stayed to help my sister deal with the pressure of unproductive adults of 40 who decided to get pregnant so they can acquire more money from Social Security, was not welcomed by me. Who I wanted my independence from supporting lazy parents. That is why in my 30s I got married so I could live a life of my own not my mothers.
That would be Harmon.
I am 92years old and never heard of this movie. I too wish for the old days. They were the best? It is really lonely at this age. God Bless All

I am 83 and like so many of the comments, my Soul yearns for SPACE, peace and a gentle time of life. Someone mentioned how America had changed so "suddenly" it seems. When I visited the Statue of Liberty for the second time with my niece a few years ago, I began to sob inwardly and it took all my strength not to break down in front of all the other passengers on the boat. The America I knew lived no longer!
The NYC I knew lives no longer as well, but that could be a good thing. But I do agree with what you say.

It seems back in the 50s and early 60s life was a lot quiet and peaceful, and people didn't have to worry about locking their car doors or houses and neighbors would return their neighbors mail without complications. Now they will steal anyone packages.

I lived in Calgary for four years and had a membership at Heritage Village. I went there often to sketch the train and some of the shops. For this movie, it was the town of Somerville and the Gazette print shop is right there on the main street. I even sat on those seats on the old train that runs a circular route around the village. The movie made me miss those days.

Even the 50s and 60s still were taught good values to live by but in our today society it seems those values are no longer appreciated. Especially when it comes to work ethics and being kind to one another which were good feelings to have, and I remember going home with a good feeling after working at the office where no one was resentful for anything one did to help the office. I never mentioned it, but they learned I wanted to help the staff by creating a form to help the office staff get their work done quickly and less tedious than before. It was great when I worked during the 70s at the PSD in Florida.
While you could adapt to an earlier time if you were born into it, the average person in this fictional era had a horse and a stump farm, a tar paper shack, a pair of Levis, two shirts, boots with no socks, and his wife went barefoot in a smock. If she was pregnant they would starve to trade for a milking goat or a cow if she had other kids. Bad teeth, bad health, freezing winters, no antibiotics and 50 was 'old'. Nope. Came up on a cold water farm with wood stove, kerosene lamps and an outhouse myself. Nope.
A very refreshing film which I chanced upon after a long time. Even though I live in India, I could connect with the hero and his dilemmas. Beautiful and totally engrossing film.
How many people miss the sound of screen doors opening and shutting or the sight of old dusty roads and watching the dust flying around the backend of a truck while you set in the back. Front porch swings and tons of firefly's at night. Playing hide n seek in the barn. Simple times
I think a lot of people miss those things, the simple things of simple living.

That is amazing what you remembered. It truly brings to mind about those days. What I especially remember that on Sundays' my husband and I went to this old store to grab a hotdog and coke and sit on the steps of this grocery store and enjoyed the scenic view of that crusty old store that still served ice coke from this old freezer. Loved those Summer days and wished I could go back there again to Homestead, FL where there were plenty of roads and not a lot were built up of stores and homes back then.

When this movie was made, on Sep 2nd he turned 49 and I turned 65.
Each time I watch this movie I want to go back. Back to what it was likein the 50's. Back to what it was like in the 40's. Back to what it was like when my mom and dad were young.
If anybody reading this has a time machine, as you pass by stop off. I can come up with several thousand dollars for a one way trip..
Am 70 and grew up on a farm from pioneer times and life was great even if had rough times .. was a big family and knew respect and 3 generations lived in same home at times....everyone should be able to have those feelings and learn about animals .. we had many different livestock and crops... children played in forests,picked berries and planted and worked huge gardens... survival skills
I always felt like I belonged in the 1870's to 1910 houses of the era museums made like it was antique stores etc I always admire the craftsmanship and quality of anything cola tasted better and eggs were real straight from a farm and dolls for children had beauty now plastic and gowns were made for beauty and longevity I know some things were tough like outhouses and long winters but I still would like to time travel to that time if anyone ever did invent a time machine.
I grew up on a farm in the 1950s. Life was wonderful and simple, but people still had problems and unhappiness to deal with.
However, vices were shunned: Today vices are just glorified honorable hobbies.
The past in this movie was much further back than the 1950s. It was the early 1900s.

But this also represents how the wrong people get together and take away from others where they belong with and the divorce rate would be lower than 70% if people would be in right place with the right person... I just chose this movie randomly and here, in Aug. 2022, it seems to have taken me back in time. This movie was from 2000, and I absolutely love it! I wish I could time travel now and stop my beautiful daughter, Dana, from dying tragically on 1/1/2020! I know someday I will be with her again in Heaven, and never leave her side, ever!! Thank you for this movie, Mark Harmon, and Dances With Wolves is the best place to be!!!

It's an irony that the reason I enjoyed this movie is because of its slow pace, there is no rushing of dialogues and scenes as we find nowadays in current movies! I wish we could turn back time to this way of making movies!

I can so relate to this poor fellow! Driven by a plethora of unneccessary desires (aka making more money, big house, big car, expensive suits, flashy outfit for my wife, private school for the daugther, horses etc.) I finally quit the rat race at age 55, bought a 100 year old boat, re-started breeding orchids, took up serious gardening, moved with wifey in to a small tuscan-style mudbrick cottage that was uninhabited for the last 6 years, am currently restoring the cottage and planting a vineyard & an apple orchard, redeveloping my antique collection (furniture, paintings, glass, silver and porcelain) - and despite being much less affluent than before neither my wife nor I have never regretted this decision a single second. We need to learn how to design our work around our lives, not the other way round, and it does not make sense at all to be the richest man in the graveyard.
That is so beautiful....

When I got divorced and had to go back to work, I was worried due to computers which were expected from those that applied for jobs. I learned computers due to attending classes for "displaced homemakers." However, working in offices plus buying a computer which were desktops helped a lot for my children to do their home work and for me to learn various applications. The problem I had is employers were now expecting the employees to do the work in less time when learning their applications for each company became the norm. However, the expectations employers and companies put the pressure and the demands which made everyone work like a mad person. Sorry to say this but what I remember reading a long time ago is with each new development in industrial or technology we may take one step forward but "two steps back." Due to many conflicts which we didn't expect hackers and nerds to try and manipulate those computers by adding viruses as a joke or to make things more complicated than it should be. What is interesting those that are expert in computers still have a way to screw things up for people that are working with computers. It is a sad world we live in when inventions cause complications not just companies but for their employees and individuals trying to maintain their personal accounts online.

Being a hopeless romantic, ( well, I am a Celt ), this film was right up my street. No sex, no violence, no car chases, no foul language.
The two leads are well chosen. I've only ever seen Mr. Harmon in the NCIS series, and I do believe Ms.McDonnell was opposite Kevin Costner in ' Dances with wolves '.

R.I.P. Bill Cobbs. One of the most beloved actors in film and TV, Bill left us on June 26th, at the age of 90. He was very versatile in the roles he played and you knew if he was in a movie, you were going to see a good one. He didn't start acting until age 36 and had been, among other things, a car salesman before that. I would have trusted him to sell me a good car. Thanks, Bill, for leaving us so many good characters to watch for all time.
My father was born in 1890, within the time of this movie. It doesn't seem so long ago to me because I have this direct connection to it. So many of my family album pictures are scenes that look just like this and the stories I was told make it as though it was part of my life as well. I don't think we could have become so much different in that short time, which was really just a few clicks on the clock of humanity. We are blessed with actors and actresses like Mark Harmon, Mary McDonnell and Bill Cobbs, who can take us all back in time with their skillful portrayals. Once in awhile, we are treated to a rare movie like this and won't soon forget it. This is truly one of the best movies I've been privileged to see.
You'd have to be around 90 now yourself? I had to stop and do the math. It doesn't seem possible people can still be alive who's parents were born in 1890, but if he had you at 40 or so, you'd be about 90. Incredible. Just 15 years after the Civil War. Amazing. Time is a strange thing and life is but a vapor.

@@wandamazzulo779: My grandfather on that side was born in 1835 and was a soldier in the Union Army during the Civil War. Both my father and grandfather were much older than most men when their children were born. There's 104 years between just two generations of my family. My great-great grandfather on my mother's side was a soldier in George Washington's Army during the Revolutionary War. There's been some family member involved in every United States war since then. I have some interesting artifacts that have been handed down, from most of them. But I'm hoping that is a tradition that does not have to continue.

The one regret I have is those out houses - I would not want to be without a bathroom in that time period.

Wow, I had never heard of this film. Was really great, especially with the young Mark Harmon. This was released in 2000. What I found amusing is when he was saying no one paid any attention to others anymore, and no one looked others in the eye and had conversations, I said, "Honey, you ain't seen nothin' yet."

There was another somewhat similar movie with a similar plot, and the man found a bunch of old painting hidden away as he was cleaning the house out to sell it, and it was his wife who painted the scenes of her life in them after she went back in time.
I didn't want it to end. What a wonderful film.
I most heartily agree!!! It was such a lovely story that I wish that there had been more...in fact, I am certain that they could have not only extended the movie, but they could have likely done a series on the story.

February 5 to 6th 2024 at 00:52am I finished watching this treasure piece of art. I’m glad. I yearn for this. I was born in 1994 thus 29yrs old and I will slow down and appreciate life and be simple and present in person.

I know....My kid w-o is 36 is movin- to Nova Scotia to see if PEOPLE move slower , spend time on stuff....over on east coast. I was born in 1952. Vancouver Canada moves fast --too fast for peace and to stop & smell roses. One can slow down in ones-own apartment.

Coming from London England it was a change I didn't expect.the people had time for me .I made friends so easy.the people were like nothing I had ever experienced.so friendly and giving.I was 22 years old.to say that the experience changed my life would be an understatement .when I arrived back in London I brought a bit of Toronto back with me .and it's stayed with me ever since. I found that those people were people I wanted to be Like.open and friendly .those people brought my walls down.or may be it was the whole experience.thank you Canada.

My Late Husband and I were like Mark Harmon and Mary McDonnell were in the movie. They enjoyed being together even 24 hours a day and that was the way we were.❤❤

How fortunate you were to have that kind of relationship. I wasn't lucky and couldn't get my husband to help me with the kids when I had pneumonia- it broke my heart when he said, "find someone to take care of you. I started to plan to divorce him the next year. I got fed up with his verbal and physical abuse and never want to marry again. Better be single than miserable married to an AH.
You were so lucky to have that type of relationship. Not many of us found that kind of love/relationship.

I would go back in time in a flash! He's so right, humanity has been ruined in the technology race. We are so disconnected and there is no trust or community anymore. Very lonely times indeed. Beautiful movie. Brilliant acting, very realistic and unpretentious.

My other half and I started off loving the same things, and years later we have hardly have anything in common, but one thing is so, we adore and love each other more then we did when we first joined our lives together. Why don't people just accept that time changes, and keeps on changing our lives, as a couple and as individuals. We shouldn't see that as not lovin each other, just accepting each other as we keep moving through difficult challenges? We walk together and hour a day, that's very precious. 💚

I watched this B.C. (Before COVID-19), that's how I refer to it: Nothing will ever be the same again. It brought chills to me watching it again. I'm 71 and I don't know if the world will ever be what it used to be. Now I have some sense of what Americans must have felt, waking up on December 7, 1941 and finding that their entire world, entire lives, had changed forever.
Do not fret! The secular world may change but GOD never changes! Do you HIM?
I agree with you Ken. It has changed, but the hope we have is in God. This is what I depend on. Don't rely on the secular world to give you peace because it won't. It never will. Put your hope and faith in Jesus Christ. He will always be there to guide you throughout life even when times are dark. We are in a spiritual battle between good and evil. Please seek the Lord as your Savior and Seek His Counsel. These are the last days and it is important to trust in Him. Ask Jesus into your heart and accept Him as Your Lord and Savior. I stumbled across a random youtube poll asking people their favorite episodes of 'the Twilight Zone'
One man named 'A Stop at Willoughby'
I didnt recognize the episode and searched for a synopsis.
In doing so I found this film.
It seems Rod Serling truly understood compeling writing in a way that still grabs ahold of people.
This movie is wonderful and I relate to it so very much.
That Twilight Zone episode was great❤
I just came across this movie, it was in my recommended videos. I am also a twilight zone fan, and this very much borrows on the “ last stop at Willoughby“ Twilight zone episode. Years ago, I remember saying to myself I wish they would turn that twilight zone episode into a longer version so they can get more into the characters. This pretty much does that, but then again, it has about an hour and a half to tell the story whereas The twilight zone episode had only half an hour. I get the feeling Rod Serling would have approved of this movie!
I remember the wise was a real pain in the butt. I would have wanted to stay on that train to Willoughby for sure.
In case one forgot about Rod Serling "A Stop at Willoughby, he had a wife that was constantly complaining about better income and his boss kept pressuring him about getting those big deals - but he just wasn't happy at all. So the train was appealing to see that time 1890s presents itself to him as a great place to get off the train.
I love movies like this. It makes me step back and pause. I do think about the quieter, more peaceful moments of history and wonder what my life might be like if I had been there instead of in this era.
So resonated with Mike Harmon as he told the meeting that people are sick and tired of being bombarded with ADS. Nowadays even more ads are tossed our way. You cannot even read an article on line without sifting through numerous ads - some even craftily designed to make us click on them thinking it's part of the piece.

What an absolutely beautiful movie! Mark Harmon and his gentle way was perfectly chosen for this part. We raised our children on the home farm and I home schooled them. Those years were the most wonderful of my life. Just quiet and slow moving. Perfect. I can so relate to this movie. We all long for peace. Seeing this has calmed my spirit and made me long for those days again.

Note that this was based, rather freely, on an old Twilight Zone episode called “A Stop at Willoughby”, which ended in death; it owes something, too, to another Twilight Zone episode, an hour-long one called “No Time Like the Past”, in which a scientist travels back in time to 1881 and falls in love with an attractive young woman. He, though, goes back to the early 1960s and reconciles himself to the present. The expansion of the train conductor into a pivotal character is a stroke of genius. Bill Cobbs was the ideal choice for that role.

Either they are too busy (important and stupid things) or too afraid to open up (justifiably as there are so many mean and crazy people out there) or maybe too selfish. A neighbor of mine just moved to another city. He and his wife have 5 cats. 2 of them, Pirate and Peter, are very young and playful and would walk on the street and into some houses' front yards/garage..I've been placing a big bowl of food for cats in need in my front porch for 10 years. These two (and others) would come and have a bite. Sometimes they'd fight and wake me up at 3:00am to pull them apart. I have a cat (my angel) and he would meow to warn me about the visitors when they came into my cat's bedroom, where his food is. Anyway, For more than a year, I took care of these 2 cats (they refused to go back to their home because they enjoyed their freedom and later on one of the other couple's cat had had kittens). Pirate has just one eye. On the couple's last night as my neighbors, I panicked because they told me they were leaving and couldn't catch Pirate, bring him home. I started crying. A lot! I'm 46. My daughter and I set up a plan and could bring him into our living room. I could not stop crying at the thought they would leave without him!! The next day when they departed, with Pirate, safe. And I still could not stop crying. And realized these neighbors never had the time or interest to be friends. I felt like: I took care of your child (haha the cat), I loved him, I brought him back to your family and we never got to know each other. It made me so sad. No matter how true and tender I am. People just don't care for one another anymore. It's been like this for decades. People are on survival mode. It's all me, me, me. Selfishness at its best. Please, forgive me for this way-too-long comment.

"Perhaps richness of life comes more from inside of a person" best line in the movie because it's very true. That line should be applied in a life no matter in what timeline it's in. That way it's not discontent.
but it's not true. Richness of Life comes from the authentic connection one has with their natural and innate environment, through which they can live a fulfilled life, which is why people that live in concrete jungles are often so discontent. It's not the environment for which they were created, it's alien, unnatural. The electrical frequency of artificial environments is unsettling and upsetting to the body and mind. One can see the impact of alien environments by looking at captive Orcas who are forced to spend their shortened lives in a small manmade pool, or by observing an intelligent elephant who is kept in an unnatural environment. They are *not content, they are *not fulfilled, they can*not live as they naturally would. Positive thinking cannot substitute for actuality of natural environment. Only someone with the possibility of fulfillment of their natural and innate desires and life-purpose will know that hope and joy, while someone outside of that natural environment will not. Any time a creature is removed from Nature, from its original and healthy environment, it will not be fulfilled. Movie makers have inserted that exact line in numerous movies to convince us that the deficiency is ours, rather than our surroundings, but it isn't true. The soul knows what it needs, and it needs the real thing.

Not as a child but as a teenager working to save money but this time I would leave home and start to my life a bit early instead of supporting people that don't want to work. That way, I could have a better way of life not pressured by family that don't want to work.

I lived in Somerville, a suburb of Boston before getting a job in Boston in 1973. It is one of the best places to live in Massachusetts. Living there offers residents an urban suburban mix feel where most rent their homes, like I did. I left that same year to work in Asia and have continued living here these 50+years! I also was urged by my mom to come back to the US. But I felt Asia was my home from the first time I stepped off the plane here. I really enjoyed this movie a lot. I loved this film. Based on the 1960 Twilight Zone episode "A Stop at Willoughby" it displays the same rich texture and nostalgic yearnings. With just the right touch of romance. An enchanting feature recommended for everyone; everywhere.

The original Zone episodes have been a favorite go to of mine for decades...(just a bit less so with the newer one's) So far I'm like'n this updated take on "Willoughby" too. Plus wifey here-so far... while busy/distracted, is no where near as hard to stomach, or near as pompous as the original Zone character). Microwave just dinged. ACTII... buttered flavored popcorn is ready. On with the show!
Love the movie. I immediately recognized that this movie was filmed in my city of Calgary. Next time, when I take the C-train again, I will make sure to close my eyes when through the tunnel, and wait for the magic moment to happen.

I love this movie. It is like magic back in time. Symbolic: train and its unique watch. It leads us to reflect in our present, stressful, hectic, materialistic, complicated lives to where we really wanted to be. I love the part in which he gave back its watch back to the conductor. True love was meant to be even back in time.
I love this movie and it's so much says what I feel about the world now. I'm 63 and I've seen a lot in my lifetime but I so longed for the simple way of life. I think this is one of Mark Harmon's best. I love the message in the movie.

I love Irish movies and the music. I'm almost 65 and as of April 2022 I will have been living my dream for a year. Small town 8acres of peace and quiet. A beautiful farm with two big red barns, a stand up weather vane (laying down in winter) on the beach in a surrounding forest. I also love Mark's acting & looks. Yes I will always be old fashioned, this farm house was built in 1912, 3 stories plus several other outbuildings. Just peaceful and quiet. No drama. Relatives live close by. Four minutes walking from the Pacific Coast. Good Luck. Peace.
A great find! We just watched this last night and it is a gentle film with a brilliant script written by Rod Serling of The Twilight Zone fame. This one is based on the episode 'A Stop at Willoughby' in which a chap finds himself back in time at railway stop that only he and the conductor can see. I loved the way this movie brought together all of the elements and wonder of time travel and added a very human story to them. Simple yet classic you won't regret having seen this movie.

Well, I almost missed it. I somehow found it accidentally. I was looking for a free movie to watch. For some strange reason, I clicked on a movie that I would have to rent or buy to see. But then I scrolled down from that movie and found this.

Absolutely wonderful. I deeply identify with this character on a daily basis. Harmons character had the right view, 'at what cost to humanity' is all the technology in the world. Although technology has taken over most of the way all mankind lives today, I am commited to very limited use of it and live my days as in such a time period as this movie projects. Written by Rod Sterling, directed by Richard Thomas (John Boy :) and it doesn't disappoint. Movie really gets good after he buys antique watch and is transported into 1896. Surprise ending and ends just how you want it to.
And, handsome Mark Harmon, who I have always loved in anything I ever saw him in! Although, Richard Thomas himself would have been good in this part.

This is a film so profound. Energetically speaking time doesn't exist. Past, future and present coexist at the same 'time'. And this film makes it somehow visible. I loved it. I love the concept. I love the truth about it. Gaps in time exist. Just one example. At one time, an American couple came to Great Britain. I don't recall whether it was Scotland, Ireland, Wales or England. They wanted to see where they came from. See their roots. They came into a village where a medieval feast took place. Everything about it was medieval. They found it very strange, although they were welcome anywhere. They took pictures because it was so quaint, intriguing. They got back home in the US. They had the photos developed. However nothing showed on them. As a result they went back to that village and were astounded that that particular village didn't exist ... anymore. Truly, it blows you away at times, this concept. There are more examples of this phenomenon..
And on top of that, I really like the actor Mark Harmon. That's a bonus!

GREAT MOVIE. I got to be honest. I sometimes feel exactly the same way. I feel like travelling back time and live a happy slow charming life in past. But when I realise that it's impossible I feel frustrated. The ultimate truth is you can't run away from life.

Going to sleep is still a mystery beyond time travel. Some dreams are so good you want to stay asleep. Some are so weird it's like an acid trip gone bad and you hope it's not reality.
As for running away from life - I think you are absolutely correct _you can't do it. You can try and end it all, but there is the final mystery. Do you 1up like on Super Mario Bro? With all the mysteries ahead, I'm still in awe of everything today. Some things just require faith. That is what the hope of Jesus Christ is all about, put our faith in him and the reward is heaven. Jesus is coming in few years and so we make a choice, choose Jesus Christ or Satan. No choice is selecting Satan. Choose Jesus is a choice but expect to get persecuted for making the right choice. The devil hates good people. I love the new testament, because it has Jesus Christ spoken words when he was here 2000 years ago. He left us many prophecies and there all coming true. In fact the bible is the only book were prophesies come true 100% of the time. Written in a way that only the chosen few can understand it. We live in very exciting times and scary at the same time. I'll take the hope in Christ any day over no hope at all. How does all this relate to the movie; simply the train is on the track to a better place, its hope were love is located. :-)

I spent one month of my life(when I was 12, and my dad let me go by myself)to a ranch-type farm--I had the run of the ranch, rode any horse I wanted to within the several miles the ranch was located, great food, wonderful caretakers, and the list goes on--the best time of my life, other than meeting my Savior, of course. We need some places we can lose ourselves for a time without all the rules and regulations, and people treat each other with care and respect--what a thought, eh.....btw, that was over 60 years ago and I still remember it like it was yesterday--memories can be good
Sometimes at our ages, those wonderful memories are all that bring a smile to our faces, a tingle to our hearts, a longing of days of yesterday and wishing we had known then what we know now.

I grew up in the 1960's and 70's, a great time to be a kid. We were too young to get drafted to go to Viet Nam, or caught up in the counter-culture revolution. There were no cell phones and (thankfully!) no social media.
That' what was wonderful privacy galore.
Love Mary McDonnell's acting and voice. I recall her from the movie Dances With Wolves and numerous other masterpieces.
I love this movie, so extraordinary. When he gave back the watch I knew all along he won't be coming back to the reality of a complex life. Mark Harmon's not over the top performance is superb!
I seriously recommand this movie,I am not a fan of romantic movies,but I do enjoy a fine calm movie,especially in these turbulent times,it helps your mind .
This gets my highest recommendation ..I love magic realism and time travel and this is so beautiful and interesting a story...much more than nostalgia...loved it, thanks. a must see...

I feel the same way. I'm taking a break from research videos and watching old westerns. When it was ok to have values that honor each other and our soul's journeys. Time travel flicks are pretty good too. Maybe I should watch "back to the future" movies or quantum leap? Peace my friend, it will be better soon!
