      Unfortunately you can't shoot a rifle in the city. So there are some things to consider here.

    Nice catch Jamie. I'd love to see how you prepare him if you do decide to use him for meat. Take care.

      Hailey Hurley I caught three this year from under my deck. I thought there was one. I used a box cage live trap. They like melons. I set the trap about 4 ft from the hole.

    Most times snares will strangle rather than live capture.

    • @BurningRiverBushcraft
      @BurningRiverBushcraft  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I haven't found that to be the case, but this definitely needs to be treated as a lethal trap.

    Will regular old rope work

    • @BurningRiverBushcraft
      @BurningRiverBushcraft  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No it won't. A locking cable snare prevents the animal from chewing through the snare. If I had to use bank line or paracord to make an emergency snare, I would have to use a pole snare to lift the animal off the ground.

    Firearm for a groundhog? Wow. My trap was a bit different than yours. I planted an extra raised bed with lettuce. On my garden raised beds, I surrounded them by chicken wire, but left one open. Hey, sharing. Didn't have to shoot anyone.

  • @johnwranek251
    @johnwranek251 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very inhumane. You could relocate the groundhog in a live trap.

    • @100PercentOS2
      @100PercentOS2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      And give the problem to someone else. Yeah, great idea! Groundhogs are destructive rodents that even eat garden veggies.

    • @hardwatercamper
      @hardwatercamper 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      How are you supposed to eat it if you let it go 🤔

    • @bluepassionrose9086
      @bluepassionrose9086 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      With the amount of damage they do and how they multiply it is the only option to kill ‘em! They get into gardens, dig holes all over the yards and farms and can ruin a foundation under homes ,sheds, barns, porches, and fences! Only thing a trap would do is give the problem to someone else!

    • @georgepotter5101

      It's illegal to relocate them read the laws

    • @kimflores6359

      @@BurningRiverBushcraftkilling them, building our houses one open land which could be home to many species, digging up their homes is not destructive? Aren't we the most destructive, invasive species on the planet? Destroying important forest, killing millions of animals to the point many go extinct, and yet we call some animals pests or destructive for trying to live, we do the same.

    • @kimflores6359

      What damage do they cause to buildings other than burrowing under them? I've heard from someone that they don't actually cause subsidence.
