    The greatest comedy of self-delusion and misanthropy since Hancock, and ranking alongside Dame Edna and Alan Partridge as a created character inhabiting his own universe. The roots of the character go further back to classics like "Diary of a Nobody".

    I had the pleasure to meet Count Arthur many years ago. Unfortunately he was somewhat brusk and told me to push off as the cubicle was only designed to accommodate one. His demeanour did however mellow somewhat when he realised there was no paper in there. So began a friendship that lasted from then until about an hour later. I recall Count Arthur being a very inclusive man, even allowing me to keep Dixie whilst he stuffed as many paper hand towels into his overcoat pockets. Arthur explained that he was doing some sort of research on behalf of Help The Aged so "get crackin' and pick up all the small blocks of soap". Yes a true legend, I really do.

      It's "brusque", not "brusk"

      I am most envious of your 'close encumbrous - uh close encorkment - oh 'close encounter' I said, what's the matter with you?! with the Count. On two occasions I had a virtually cast iconic - oh cast off - no! cast iron I said, guarantee of an audience with the noble Count after performances at Winchester's Theatre Royal. But on both occasions he sent his manager Steve Delaney into the foyer in his stead, to undertake the signing of memorabilia etcetera. Mr Delaney was very pleasant to all concerned, but I have to say that I was disappointed not to meet the showbusiness legend himself. Rumour has it that the great man was the worse for wear, having got the neck off two bottles of sherry . . .

    It's marvellous to see this character on you tube. Radio and stand up, absolutely hilarious, but the TV series didn't really work so well for me.

    The Count is genius. The interviewer plays it brilliantly. The only sad thing is that the BBC Took the Count off! I think the BBC Exectives just don't get it.

    Genius at work. I met that Arthur Long once.

    • @martm216
      @martm216 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me too - well I say I met him once. I'll just correct yourself - uh myself there. It was actually two times that I met him, which is twice as many as one, which any schoolchild knows. And if they don't they jolly well should do. In my day at school we sat in rows at desks in rows and gave no cheek to the ink monitor, not all this dancing around willy-nilly. Anyway, I met him twice at the Theatre Royal in Winchester, which is an very august establishment, although there were no royalty there when I was, unless you count the Count himself, which you certainly should do of course. Back to arithmetic again. But when I say that I met the Count, on both the occasions after his wonderful wonderful show, and I make no apologies for putting wonderful twice there because it was wonderful, I in fact met only his manager, a gentleman known to me as Steve Delaney. This Mr Delaney, when I enquired as to the promised appearance of Arthur to his multiplications - multitudes - blessed arithmetic poking its nose in again where it's not wanted - explained that the good Count was somewhat indisposed after his onstage exertions and I would have to content myself with this Mr Delaney, who was authorised to sign autographs on Arthur's behalf

      @@martm216 Very good. I suspose I was not being honest as it was that Steve Delaney fellow who stood in to sign the selfies for those people who didn't have. Cameras so had a pen about his person to avoid that tissue.

    • @martm216
      @martm216 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pmadamson yes, I think you are most probably right. I believe that Steve Delaney does a lot of work for the Count in these situations. He told me it was somewhat similar to Barry Humphries and Dame Edna Everidge and Sir Les Patterson. I nodded as if I understood, although I had no idea what he was talking about, plus I worried about the escalating cost of my motorcar in the multi-storey carpark. It was very nice meeting Steve Delaney, but can only hope, no doubt along with other frustrated fans such as yourself, that one day I might meet the Count himself . . .

    The radio series, "Count Arthur Strong's Radio Show" is utterly fantastic! The TV show, Count Arthur Strong, is great too, but I prefer the radion show. I heard the radio show first, and was delighted when I first saw the TV series and found that the actor and writer who voiced Arthur, also could look like and emote exactly how you'd imagine Arthur to be.
