The topic at hand was CNN’s decision to host a town hall with presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump. The network has taken flak for platforming Trump after he infamously incited an insurrection at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. After the 2020 election, Trump falsely claimed the contest had been stolen from him. Millions of supporters believed this lie. In the weeks after the election, he desperately sought ways to illegally cling to power."*

What makes me mad with CNN like Cenk says CNN would never give Bernie a platform or if they did they would call him Castro or Stalin. CNN will give Trump a softball interview that's why people r pissed. If it was a Democrat or any other Republican would be grilled hard. Trump will get underhand batting practice pitches guaranteed that would ask Trump about January 6th, the lies about the 2020 elections, abortion. Trump is one of those that any coverage of him whether it's good or bad is great coverage for him. CNN are knuckleheads giving Trump this major platform of theirs just to launder his image and TYT are going to moan why did they put him on there. Kaitlyn Collins is a rookie and weak sauce, she doesn't have the skills to rebut the nonsense that Trump is going to say on there. CNN just set themselves up for disaster.
Your point of the townhall format being soft is why I feel CNN is wrong in doing it this way. They will be giving Trump cream-puff questions that will only make him look legitimate. A one on one interview with tough questions would be much, much better!

From experience, I can tell you that nobody even knew who Bolsonaro was until media started giving him a platform in Brazil. I get that it's a different situation with Trump but it's not as simple as Ana is saying.

This is a general ppl problem. Most ppl don’t want to hear or entertain conflicting points.
But the reason why Trump town hall was especially destructive is because he uses any opportunity to lie and spin. He doesn’t have real policy. He doesn’t have a real action plan. He doesn’t have any thing positive that will benefit the country as a whole.

I’ve watched CNN anchors try to interview Republican talking heads and it now seems pointless. Used to be they would push back. Now, it’s like they are not allowed to push back. I’ve unsubscribed from everything CNN related. Have them on, but don’t let them get away with lies.
That's been the new model for CNN ever since the WB/Discovery take over. The new owners want to "be more central" in a country that is divided. That's why CNN is losing their own viewers while not being able to attract right wingers.

If they wanted more viewers they needed to try to compete with MSNBC, they could gain viewers from that audience. Now neither side will be happy with them. I used to watch some of their content and was subscribed on youtube, the moment they announced this trump town hall I unsubscribed and I see a whole lot of others have done the same.

He is the GOP Nominee for the 2024 Presidential Elections. Any self respecting News Media is Duty Bound to have him on. Now I do not place much value on National Polling they are biased and lean to the left. That said the 7 Point lead President Trump has over Biden is small compared to his lead in a lot of State Polls. If you want to know who is truly ahead in the Presidential elections forget national polls that are meaningless look at the State polling.
Because in a democracy you don’t get to censure candidates from speaking about their platform, even if it’s awful.

I also take issue with CNN giving Trump airtime. The only way I believe that CNN should have on Trump is if they're actually going to press him while also immediately stopping AND fact checking the lies that he is undoubtedly going to spew with the airtime they're giving him...But I'm NOT holding my breath on them doing that.
I respectfully disagree and feel that that mindset is separatism. It's a BIG problem with America today. E.g. You can come to my house as a guest but only if you bring this and that and cower or obey. A public media should be allowed to host without stipulations whom ever it so chooses and more importantly, it's reporters to have that discretion; to stay focused on the most needed topics that are relevant. Biden is differently more mentally sharp than Trump and also more so than Bush Jr was. No, he isn’t as good of a speaker as Obama, but he’s more coherent than Trump. Biden sometimes says something weird, but not nearly as often or as bizarre as Trump.
Yes, he sometimes lets the Republicans walk over him, but has he been worse about that than Obama? Biden has occasionally out maneuvered the Republicans.
He hasn’t delivered everything, but he has delivered more positive results than Trump or Bush and maybe more than Obama.

All of that is waste of time. Sure, sometimes you can convince people on the other side but a debate between antagonistic ideologies or some "challenging interview" with "hard-hitting questions" usually doesn't really work at all. Airtime is limited and people attention is limited. Why not give platform to people who have good ideas, brave vision, pragmatic plans and so on instead of feeding the grifters.

On Ana’s point - I actually appreciated the Matt Gaetz interview and I’d like to see more right wingers on the show. I’m 100% left wing (and can’t stand Gaetz) but shows that only host left wing guests are just reinforcing an echo chamber. We’re so polarised these days that hosting someone with polar opposite views is seen as radical. We need more interviews and debates between people with opposing views. It’s far more constructive that just blowing your own horn and sitting comfortably in your echo chamber.

It's not a question of believing enough in your positions (also, you should push for what's right, not only for what's popular, alright?). The majority of tv news and online news is tilted towards a pro-corporate political position. Adding more visibility to a far-right, pro-corporate voice does nothing imo to push your ideas, especially if Trump's just going to insult the hosts and derail the entire thing so policy doesn't even get talked about and debating and potentially debunking some of Trump's talking points online does not sway the needle enough compared to the effort that gets put into organising that event imo. It didn't do so in 2016 and Trump likely merely lost in 2020 because of his policy response to Covid so the idea that there'd be a difference between interacting with these right-wing scumbags in a live debate instead of addressing their far-right positions with actual news commentary like TYT usually does is not persuasive imo. Sure, it gets people to watch but if it's just to watch a trainwreck I'd say people's time could be better spent doing something else.

The correct response to this whole issue, the logical response, is not to take away trump's town hall, it's to give Biden a town hall, just like cenk says, and just like ana says, the reason that's not on the table is because Biden ain't doing well and everyone can see it. Then, just like cenk says, if you can't put Biden on telly, he's the wrong candidate. Democrats could put quite a few people up, even if any single candidate would exactly galvanise the whole base, they'd at least not be an obvious vegetable to everyone with eyes. It really shows how weak MSNBC think their preferred candidate is, and also how icky it is for a news corporation to have a preferred candidate in the first place(I include fox news in that too).
Trump should be denied any platform. IF OR WHEN there is something new, say it in a short clip AND NOT REPEAT IT ANYMORE. This constant babbling about trump is rediculas.

Generally, I enjoy TYT videos. However, the hosts' arguments sometimes fall flat when criticizing cable networks for the sake of remaining neutral. Many hosts at CNN hardly fact-check in order to attract Republicans.

Getting back to The Donald and the clownish GOP, I want more Trump Town Halls and "exclusive" [Sean Hannity-like] interviews, to keep the comedy rolling. Same refrain: as a Canadian, with, e.g., shows like Seinfeld off the air, and Letterman having retired from Late Night, I count on the GOP to provide the laughs. ... and they have been doing so for many years; too bad they drag down America, and at times the rest of the world with them.
As for those GOP policies versus those from the left, and Ana's point of is one comfortable with them: you mean, there is concern that a majority of the population might fall in love with tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires; attacks on a woman's right to choose; incredibly lax gun laws; loosened regulations (providing the risk of more tragedy); torching environmental regulations; and so much more. In most industrialized Western nations, the GOP would be fortunate to even be a third party, yet, somehow, in America, they are called: "Grand Old Party".

Generalizing is definitely not what should be done, but people do that more often than not, even with the best of intentions. I think people what is happening is that people fear how normal people have been duped into such dangerous heinous, crazy crap so easily, and how despite a lot of efforts to try reasoning with conservative voters they know or are related to, people find that its often little use in having debates of substance and actual facts bounce off like water from a ducks back. So I think people on the left are tired of trying hard to be the better person when its spat back in your face, or fight thrice as hard to get minimal wins when the other side can run roughshod and just do whatever they want. And the "decent" conservatives aren't really working on their black sheep nearly as hard.
Just like you'd want us to try to understand and get along with people who've been duped in the possibility of fostering lasting change and exchanging ideas with "decent" conservatives, you gotta realize that people get tired of breaking their skull on a brick wall. So them suggesting to shut out Trump sounds more like fatigue, and I'm seeing it in the comments as well, rather than just being "weak" and wanting to completely negate other voices, its that they see the effects of entering the debate stage with such people is largely ineffective. For a large portion if the country, you're having to lead them around like puppies you don't want to shit on the floor like they are babies, and that is disheartening. You only need to go back to interviews with people who went over to Andrew Yang from Trump, when asked why they picked Trump they said, "he was like a WWE star". And while the argument to meet people's needs is paramount to what a public servant should do by DEFAULT, the strategy of trying to get those people is basically like bribing a kid with cotton candy, they're just in it for the candy, and can taken in by someone who looks like they'd have something better than candy.
Long rant to say, that its just a disastrous political landscape we live in, and people are just fumbling trying to see what works, and screaming at each other because we're all tired, but I think saying the left is just weak wouldn't be entirely correct.

When Gaetz came on the show it was not 'platforming' as much as it was an interrogation. It made Gaetz look justifiably bad, and TYT was right to bring him on. Ana needs to go offline for a bit, but can't because it's her job.

I love how Cenk says we should never be afraid to debate… while refusing to debate his and Ana’s critics. He says that saying not to platform someone is weakness, but he won’t dare to actually platform Humanist Report, Rational National or Emma V. from Majority Report to debate live the conservative talking points that he and Ana routinely toss out about Criminal Justice Reform, Homelessness and inclusive language.
Instead, he does the very thing he and Ana claim the left is doing: say mean things about all the progressives who criticize them and then refuse to debate it.
How about you platform any of the people I mentioned above and then post the video of them wiping the floor with you and your conservative talking points?

@@marierosario2773 I know they had David from Rational National as a guest co-host on one of the days neither one of them was hosting the main show, but I doubt it’s squashed since they keep saying things like they do in this video. Cenk and Ana keep calling out their critics without naming them directly and saying how wrong those critics were to criticize them. Every time they talk negatively about the left, they are DEFINITELY talking about Leftist mafia. It’s so nuts, because if you watch the two videos that Leftist Mafia did (the original reaction to Ana’s comments and then the reaction to Cenk and Ana’s blow up), most of the panel were falling all over themselves to give Ana (and Cenk in the second video) the benefit of the doubt. Lance wasn’t even the most critical in either video, Olanni (sp?) was and these two have never even mentioned her by name in any of their blow ups.
Most of their critics have moved on and aren’t even responding whenever Cenk and Ana make these passive-aggressive attacks, but Cenk and Ana can’t help themselves. It’s really sad.
