Not nearly enough of Miss Routledge. Of course I could listen to her read out loud a dictionary. Her facial expressions along with her melodious voice. Such a treasure. Thanks for posting this.
@@melindalemmon2149 From our perspective it is 😊 Perhaps you prefer coincidence : an ironic coincidence 😅 We see her here attending her names-sake in the future & oblivious to it. 😊
Anything with Patricia Routledge is always worth watching - and then up pops Hugh Laurie, which makes it all even better! Them talking about Capability Brown being such a wonderful landscaper immediately reminded me of another noted (notorious) landscaper and inventor - Bergholt Stuttley (Bloody Stupid) Johnson!
What a wonderful short film. I loved the quiet humor. Thank you for posting it. "It is our duty to protect Mother Nature from the ravages of man." Fast forward to reality in 2024...
Thank you! I saw this at the cinema. State Cinema, Ballymena, Co Antrim -- 1984 I think. I'm old enough to have experienced the short subjects, or whatever you want to call them, that played before the main feature. Audience laughed a LOT at this. In fact I think it upstaged the film we were there to see... Ah, those were great days.
You're so right. How well I remember, in my student days, 1950s, before television, Melbourne's five newsreels and "short features" theatrettes. 2/- admission, and you could stay as long as you liked, even viewing your favoured short again.
I am sad to say this, because it has Patricia Routledge, but years before "Seinfeld" popularized a tv show about nothing, tthere was this production. Well, I watched to the end, where Dame Patricia and Dave King close the park, and the scene where they chat as they walk away was well done, very touching-a hesitant romance.
Lancelot "Capability" Brown was an English gardener and landscape architect, a notable figure in the history of the English landscape garden style. Lalla Ward is herself from a titled family the Ward family of Castle Ward County Down which has been a National Trust property since 1953. I used to work there & when I did then rhen Lord Bangor was her half brother. Ward oart in Bangor is named after the family. Castle Ward is on the shores of Strangford Lough & the scenery is stunning.
Another sign that I do not fit in this world - a program about dogs, though it is not dogs i object to, it's their owners. But, it could have been worse, it could have involved cats! But atleast people rarely drag their cats out in public; insread, thet blather on, ad nauseum, about their "snoggy woogums".

... " Talking Head's " was a Good Little Item
I love the irony of Patricia Routledge tending to the hyacinth 🪻.
That is not irony.

A good omen of things to come, though if the had added periwinkles (not the handpainted type) it would have been even better!😉
