The musical piece that started on 1:37 was something that should be in a movie soundtrack. It painted a picture and mood and is one of the most wonderful acoustic riffs.
One of the best sounding acoustic demos on youtube, that guitar's voice/tone is so unique, rich and full sounding, deep yet still bright. great recording too, really true sound, wow on the c414s and you have sold me on the MICO too. thanks for posting.
Man, if I had the money I would be all over this thing. I have been tuning my acoustic Fender to B standard and C standard since I got it just dreaming of having the Taylor 8 string baritone. The sound it makes is very unique and really emotional no matter what style of music you play. Bravo sir, you killed it.
A very good friend of mine just bought this guitar yesterday & is so excited to get started on it. I just sent him your video so he can watch & learn. This is beautiful! Thanks for posting! ♪
One of the most soulful and expressive acoustic guitars I've ever experienced from a video. This would be THE perfect axe for doing instrumental theme music for a film.
Concerning post processing: low cut at about 70 Hz, depending on the tuning of the low E-string. Sometimes low mid cut -2dB@250 - 440 Hz. Some guitars have a sharp hi mid peak when they are brand new and the top hasn't evolved yet. I search this peak and cut it slightly with a very narrow band. The whole stuff is mixed and mastered, i use the k-system of levels and aim to reach an average loudness of about -14dB. Andreas
Hey, thanks for tuning this properly. So many of the Taylor baritone videos are playing out of tune I thought maybe something was wrong with octave strings. Nice video.
I just acquired a 300 series 8 string rosewood yesterday. I've owned baritone electrics for the last decaxe but this is easily my favorite baritone guitar. thanks for the inspiration
Have just watched the Martin Baritone video, too. Although slightly different concepts, the baritone is definetely underrated. Your playing sounds really great!!
Hi, it's a pair of XLS and XLII on a short rail to adjust distance and angles. They are about 20 cm apart from each other, the slightly more brilliant XLII towards the end of the fretboard, the XLS towards the bridge. I use an isolating headphone and place myself and the guitar in front of the mics til i have the best sound. Distance guitar to mics is about 50 cm. If a guitar is too boomy, i place the mics a little higher and angle it down. Pattern is cardioid oder wide cardioid. Andreas
I love the strumming in e-minor bit. I know it's not really e-minor, which is great, because it's _super_ easy to jam along with it on an Irish tinwhistle.
@@LeftoverVISUALS I wish my dad were around to listen to this with. He was a self-taught guitarist, and I actually found this video initially through him probably ten years ago or more when he was debating buying a guitar like this one. I'll definitely check out your works. I'm working on a video game soundtrack in my spare time, and I need to study music that does a lot with fewer instruments for the game's theme.
Nice! Huge and powerfull low notes here! Pretty punchy and tight these taylor guitars! this sounds good! Sounds like you have some hiss or scratching-noise on one channel here. Pretty compressed to. LOVE to hear a plain, dry, stereo recording of that taylor! Hi Res ofcours :) Peace
Bruce Wayne Hi Bruce, i'm afraid you're right. It's just easier for everybody to check out what the playing was. So, for the record: this baritone is tuned a fourth lower than standard guitar tuning. If i finger Em, the actual pitch that you hear is Bm etc. Sorry for the inconvenience. - Andreas
is there a full clip/version of the intro music? i really really like it a lot and would love to listen to the full song :D could anybody give me some advice where to find it?
Thorough review -- one of the BEST that I have watched here on YT. Congrats! I am a fingerstyle-light touch player and really like a bassier tone and the octave mix in the 3rd and 4th strings (like 12 strings guitars are tuned). Would you recommend something like this Taylor Baritone 8-strings to me? Thanks.
Ricardo, i don't know your style and playing technique. But you can definitely play some cool fingerstyle stuff with the 8-string baritone. It's a great guitar for playing backings for a vocalist or a solo instrument, but also for fingerstyle solo work. Maybe it lacks some higher notes for melodies up the neck, but it has a lot of power. - Andreas
LeftoverVISUALS Hey, Andreas, thank you very much! Your answer is very valuable to me. I can see that this guitar would work perfectly for me, PROVIDED that I had the technique to make the most out of it. I'm a regular nylon string and electric guitar player. And I hope to get the drive to buy one of those Taylor Baritones, which, thank for your video, eventually I will!
Hi Dennis, the two players just finger in different keys. Let's say the tune is in E-Minor and the guy with standard guitar plays some chords like Em - Am - C - D. The guy with the baritone (tuned to B-E-A-D-F#-B) then transposes the chords as if he would be playing in A-Minor and fingers Am-Dm-F-G - the baritone tuning makes the pitches to fit E-Minor.A funny thing is to combine baritone (tuned in A-D-G-C-E-A) and ukulele (g-c-e-a). They have the same tuning! The uke is (kind of) a fourth above standard guitar, the bariton is a fifth below. So they meet! If the uke player fingers an A-minor-voicing it will sound for Dm, if the bariton in low A-Tuning fingers an A-Minor-shape. it will also sound as Dm. This is a great instrumentation for a string duet - and nobody needs to transpose. - Andreas
Hi everybody, thanks for all your encouraging comments to this clip. I'm just uploading another "baritone movie" on the channel, this time played with Martins Jumbo Baritone J28LSE. Check it out under znt0G5f_ZLs
4:55 - "blues groove in A minor", but you're playing in E minor. Same with earlier in the video when it says you're playing chords in G. On the baritone, that makes it in D.
+EatPezzzz Hi, we had that before. The baritone is tuned a fourth lower than standard guitar. I just didn't want to confuse people who are mainly guitarists and see familiar shapes. Seems for some people this is even more confusion. Sorry for that. - Andreas

very impressive - your demo sounds way better than most other people playing a similar taylor baritone guitar . what is the microphone & technique u use to achieve such a sound ?
Don't know what the scale length has to do with this. I bought a Taylor Baritone 8 a few days ago. Gorgeous instrument, but my 2 capos don't really work on this, because they don't press down enough on the 2 octave strings, which makes them sound really horrible. The neck isn't the issue, if you would remove the 2 octave strings, most capos should work fine.
Vult Cult i use a Thalia capo with their harder material insert. Works great. I also us Mike Pearce 80/20 Bronze strings which are a little lighter- .68 vs .70 (Elixir) on the bass B and add the octave strings .12 and .14 just like the Elixir set.
Hi David, i would say this guitar is as cool as the player allows it to be. So maybe it's my fault that you didn't like it more. You should try one - it's quite different from a low tuned 12-String. The bass strings have no octaves which gives you a much cleaner and more defined sound in the low end. The typical 12-string-jangle just happens on the middle strings, where it has the best effect.
