Hi Jim! Thanks for this video. At around the 4:00 mark - the lever that you mentioned not pulling is what's happening to my FE2. I took a self-timer shot but then the shutter got stuck a few minutes later when I took another photo (no timer). I took out only the bottom plate and noticed that the lever was not pulling back up, which appears to be due to the small metal horizontal bar on the right side (from the view of the video) not springing back up to push up the large silver L-shape piece. Hope that makes sense and that you can offer advice. Thank you in advance!

I is really difficult to troubleshoot without seeing the camera. From what you describe, I would be inclined to suspect a self -timer that didn't run through all the way but it could be that the camera is just in need of a service. If you can send me a video of the issue I should be able to point you in the right direction.

thanks Jim for the great video, my fe2 seems to have a mirror issue, it keeps in a lockup position and wonot allow me to rewind, any idea what is wrong? much appreciated

There are a few things that can cause a mirror lock up issue. First make sure the batteries are fresh and clean the battery contacts with a q-tip. Rub the battery holder vigorously.

I'm got this issue too. I read that the mirror can stick to a wornout bumper. But that's not my problem.

So when that anti back up lever, or any other rotating part is sicky how do you fix it? Remove it and clean it? Leave it in and flood it with solvent? Give it a bit of oil?
The eBay camera i just bought has the issue you describe exactly... I'm going to talk it apart to clean the shutter and mirror box and replace that eye piece seal. Ty so much for the incredible explanation.

I take out the anti-backup pawl out and clean it, it should not be oiled. The brass collar needs to be marked so goes back in at the same position. I put in wrong it can cause the camera not to function properly when winding.

@@ictcamera560 I got scared when you said eccentric. But a little mark should solve that. Ty!! I assumed all the pivots get greased, but I guess not huh.

I don't find cleaning the f-stop ring difficult, but sometimes that is hard to judge since I have been doing this for a long time. Once the top is off, getting the f-stop ring off doesn't take much work.

Hello, Where can I buy such a silver screwdriver with the side bars? ThankYou

Sorry to say they were discontinued around 15-20 years ago. Now only junk is sold. I did pick up an extra handle about a year ago at an estate sale, so keep an eye out, they do pop up every once and a while.

Maybe you can't give away all your secrets but what were you using to remove the corrosion on the self timer?

hello. I have a problem with my fe2 it only goes off at bulb and at 250M at other speeds the mirror stays on top and only goes down when I put it on M250 or bulb... I've disassembled everything I've checked all the wires and I can't figure it out.. do you have any ideas what could it be? thanks

Sounds like no power, check there is power to the top board, red wire left side and orange wire on right side towards the front of the board when the stand-off switch is turned on.

what about disassemble a New F1?

I know how to repair a lot of cameras but I do not repair Canon F1 cameras. You wouldn't want to learn them from me, I only teach what I know and don't try to look like an expert on cameras I don't work on very often. Unfortunately many on TH-cam video don't think the same.
