Great video of my Grandfather's town high up in the mountains of Frosinone. My Grandfather Marco Rea left this beautiful place at the turn of of the last century 1900's. He came to England and settled in Chester and met and married my Grandmother who was of Italian parentage from the Val Di Comino, Surname Arcari from Picinisco. Incidentally Chris Rea the British pop singer's family are also from Arpino . Arpino dates back centuries, the Roman's gave it city status and its Roman name was Arpinium. I've not been back since Covid and I miss my ancestral home town very much! I really appreciate having two wonderful cultures Italian and English. My father and his brothers fought in the British Army in 1940/ 45 and my Grandfather was interned on the Isle of Man like so many Italian's who came to this country, with nothing and built ice cream businesses. They too had great respect for England, even though they were interned and had sons fighting in the British Army. Both my Grandfathers returned to Italy during World War 1 to fight in the Italian Army, when Italy was allied with England, France, USA and others. The 2nd World War was a complete tragedy for all Italian communities. Thank you so much for making this short film of a wonderful town and its fantastic inhabitants of Arpino, they are a warm and loving people. The surname Rea is very common in this town and region. Viva I'Italia, Viva Arpino!

Mr Carrington . Italy does appeal to me as a place to visit . I have been to Malta quite a few times which I think is not far from Italy. One of my Hobbies is Classic Cars. Iv'e been welding up my Morris Minor 1000 lately and will soon get back working on my Bond Bug three wheeler so it was nice to see the footage of the red Triumph TR7 at 2.04 minutes in your upload. I also like and have two Cat's so it was nice to see the footage of the one at the top of the stone steps. I really enjoy your Channel and uploads. All the best Mr Carrington , Andrew.

I spent a week in the Umbrian countryside, with daily visits to cities and towns. Wonderful experience--food, wine, people, cobblestones, etc. Thanks for your blog. My feet and legs still feel the climb of ever so many narrow and charming streets. Italy is simply beautiful.
What a wonderful intro to your blog. It's a beautiful view out of your hotel room and the cliffs. The hotel dining room is fabulous and the town looks very interesting. I hope you are feeling better now. I haven't had the pleasure of being to Italy yet. My favourite pasta dish is linguine with clams.
Also-thank you for showing the Roman road-fascinating! The stones were so level and smooth. Any opinion on whether the area that is showing as open/exposed under the road and runs perpendicular in the shot is their version of a sewer? Their water management was reportedly pretty sophisticated for its time.
I used to live in Europe and we'd go to Italy in the summers. I know exactly where were because we'd stay just outside Rome, then travel to Naples. Love the Neopolitan pizza...sorta like a Margarita pizza with whole tomatoes, slice mozzarella, and big basil leaves. So yummy!!!

Lovely. Lucky to have had several trips to Italy. I had an amazing solo trip to Florence and Tuscan hills. My favorite is any type mushroom and cheese ravioli in red sauce and I absolutely love yummy bruschetta.

I love Italy, my favourite place is Venice and Burano. We always stay on Lido when we go and theres an amazing little local restaurant who makes an amazing pizza with rocket, bresola and parmesan. Also there is a tiny little pizza shop near the rialto bridge that is tucked away. All they do is make and sell huge slices of pizza and bottles of Birra Moretti. Best pizza ever!

I would love to go there. Your breathlessness is related to London being at an elevation of only 36 feet from sea level and Arpino being 1467 feet, the air is thinner in higher elevations. Here in Colorado by Pike’s Peak, which is 14,000 ft there are little shops that sell mini oxygen tanks about the size of a tall can of cleaning spray for $20 to treat altitude sickness.
And apart from food, for those who are into ancient Roman history, Arpino is the home town of the great Cicero. He was very proud of his home town and wrote about it.

My wife's home town, we have lots of family there and many many good friends. We used to visit at least two or three times a year but now old age has caught up with us and we can no longer travel. We are now 86 years old and have been happily married for fifty seven years.
