I am ordering this upgrade soon, the video is going to be a big help. To those who may have trouble keeping up with the video, you can play it in .75 or .5 speed. Unfortunately many people who do "how-to" videos feel the need to do the process as fast as possible thinking it emphasizes how "easy" the process is, not thinking that people are actually more served by someone undertaking the work at an intentionally slowed pace.
@@workahallock This video needs to be viewed with the Max0 3-spring replacement one, just so users get an idea of what part-A goes to part-B. Not everyone is an armorer or gunsmith.
Many thanks. A friend conned me into cleaning his neglected Max-9 and the thing fell into pieces on my desk. No branded vids out there on the trigger group that I could find, and this really helped a brother out, even though I wasn't installing a new trigger. Can't say I'm a fan of this pistol, but the content creators get a thumbs up! :)
I.. LOVED... everything about the Max-9... EXCEPT the trigger. Of all the 4 or 5 micro 9s out there it fit MY hand the best including the P365 and I am a Sig guy. I didn't like the long take up of the Max-9 but what REALLY bugged me was the almost 2mm sideways slop both to the left and right of the trigger. I solved ALL my trigger issues by installing the Maxxis Short Stroke Trigger from Galloway Precision. It has a wide, flat face. The take up virtually disappeared and the wall, break and reset are awesome. This simple to do $36 upgrade has turned the Max-9 into my EDC.
Yes the sideways slop combined with my big fingers sometimes put slight pressure to the left as I start pulling and then the trigger will not pull it binds up this is a complete no-go for a carry pistol. This is the factory trigger I am referring to. I guess I'll shoot the gun a little bit and if I like it all except that I'll order me one of these triggers
I pick up my new Max 9 in 4 days and I am definitely planning on installing this trigger as well as the stainless steel guide rod. Glad it's an easy installation.
Wow I'm blown away! Have had zero experience upgrading triggers etc..other than magazine and maybe a site that's all. After purchasing this trigger from galloway and installing it in about thirty min. I've never been so proud! And the trigger put the max on my max 9!👏 👏 👏

I bought the Ruger Max-9 pro (without thumb safety) about 9 months ago. After over a thousand rounds through it, I’ve had zero malfunctions and I love it. Around 250 rounds in, I installed a Holosun 407k red dot and my accuracy improved dramatically. Love this gun even more. Being my first sub-compact 9 and first red dot, the Max-9 performs flawlessly and I had no complaints. Until, I started watching videos about people talking smack about the trigger. I suppose I did notice the trigger being a spongy and long take-up and a little sloppy in the side to side wiggle, but not until they told me. (Always have your gun unloaded and follow along as they play with the trigger. You’ll notice they are right about things you hardly noticed) I figured the original trigger was okay and got used to it. I wasn’t expecting anything like the precision and perfection of my Beretta 92F in this little gun but saw room for improvement I didn’t know existed. Along came the videos about the Galloway Precision trigger kit for the Ruger Max-9 and how it took away the long take-up and reset. Gotta have one. The only hard decision was, red or black? I clicked on “red” on the order form and noticed there were 10 in stock. I clicked on “black” and they have 15. (More people are choosing red) Not being much of a follower, I watched a few videos and everyone had the red one. Still not sure. Why not choose black and make it look like the trigger is stock? Well, screw it. The red one does look cool and I don’t care if everyone immediately knows I replaced the trigger, so I went with red. And of course, the range guys noticed I had a new red Galloway Precision trigger. Said it was the best improvement I could have made for the Max-9. I agreed and secretly wished I’d ordered the black one so that they’d think I just got a whole lot better at shooting the Max-9 without any help. Oh well. The installation video here is what I followed and I highly recommend using the pause button a lot. Even slow motion. This guy is pushing pins out and throwing them aside and at full speed, you’re not sure which ones he lost or cares about. Hint: He re-uses every pin and didn’t lose any of them. After successfully installing the Galloway Precision trigger, the initial dry fires were very satisfying. Tested the wiggle side to side. That’s almost gone where the original trigger was really sloppy there. Take-up, reset, dramatically improved. Range time. It shoots like a brand new gun with a really good trigger. Imagine that? I’m almost 60 years old and no gun expert or fanatic, but I’ve owned some great pistols that needed no improvements that I was aware of. The Ruger Max-9 definitely needed the Galloway Precision trigger and I’m glad I got one. (Still not sure about the red color but it’s growing on me) Thanks Galloway Precision for making the cheapest sub-compact .9mm shoot like any of the more expensive models in this class.
Hey Eric, I went through hell with the mail on the Max9 trigger recently, (not your fault), and with Debbie’s help I finally got it. Thanks so much for that. Your video here was exceptional. Watched it over and over, committing the steps to memory. Replaced my trigger in just minutes and man is it so much better than the stock trigger. I haven’t tried it at the range yet, but just the feel of it dry-fire is a million times better. You guys at Galloway Precision are the best! Thanks so much. Brian.
Made a big difference when I got all the upgrades for my 3 sr series rugers and got the firing pin guide steel upgrade for both my Ruger american 9s and have got the g2c trigger, that spring is a pain to get back in if you don't have a vise lol.
Installed tonight with help from this vid. Made it relatively easy for this novice. Thanks Galloway! Only problem I had was the Frame Insertion Pin was slightly bent from the factory, so alignment of the Grip Frame and Frame Insert was a problem on reassembly. With the Frame Insert removed, I determined the correct pin rotation to allow insertion, marked the inserted pin face at a 12 O'clock orientation, removed pin, reinstalled Frame Insert and banged the pin home using the marked 12 O'clock alignment.
Glad the video was helpful. Thank you for the additional information on the factory pin issue you experienced. I am sure others will find that to be useful. We appreciate you.
Just got mine installed, it is a huge difference. I guess the one thing about this video you need to be aware of - watch carefully as he does the disassembly and reassembly, he puts his fingers over spring and holds them in place so they don't just drop out. And watch that takedown pin cover! It is magic in the way it can disappear - and then you hunt for it with a flashlight for an hour because you can't live without it.
Just installed mine and I love it on the dry fire ! I haven't shot it yet with ammo loaded but I think it's a world of difference from the factory!! Only issue with this video is he's to fast! Which don't get me wrong he definitely knows what he's doing judging by his speed but hard to follow and keep up while trying to install it
With the cali max 9 on the CA roster, many will start to buy these up. All you need to do it take out the mag disconnect plate to install the trigger just as the normal model.
I purchased the Ruger compact 9 back in March, I definitely want a short stroke trigger on mine, and I want it in red too 🔥... It looks sexy, I’m taking it to a gunsmith that’s a little too tedious for me + I don’t even have all the tools required anyway, they said they will install it for $60

I attempted to install mine this evening and the first thing that popped out after disassembly was the safety lever and its spring, after hunting and hunting I finally found the spring and in the process of putting it back together It flew out God only knows how many times till I never could find it again. You really need to slow the video down and go into a little more detail on the correct installation of the safety spring as I'm pretty dang sure I aint the only one that has (and will) run into this problem!! I was really looking forward to trying out the new trigger (and optic I installed) but now I'm on hold till I receive another safety spring (ordered two) from Ruger. Just installed one of these, took me 15 min - fit and finish are great, eliminated all creep, and more importantly to me all the side to side play. Function is fine, have not taken to range tho am sure will shoot better, not expecting any hiccups. Hopefully this helps anyone evaluating.
Great video thank you so much I'm considering buying the nine Nate just worked on I carry the LCP Max 380 love it get a little modifying maybe in the future I'll do a trigger thank you again great video
if anyone is wondering, its the same process for the ruger max 380. the trigger i ordered was for the 380 max , however i had to smooth it out a bit for the cross pin to fit.
Nice video. Two points, it would be good if you referenced the return spring at 3:54 prior to putting in the pin. I had to take the trigger apart to remove the pin so that I could remove the trigger and then install the return spring. Also none of my parts dropped in as easily as yours. It took a bit of work to get the pivot pin and trigger pins in place.
Thank you. The Trigger Return Spring is shown being reinstalled at 3:36 but is not mentioned. TH-cam has removed the ability to add an annotation to describe this action. I have added a note in the description to hopefully head this off for future viewers.
Yes I had to do the same thing, that pin in the trigger with the tiny spring took awhile to get lined up. But I got it all installed. I did this also with the new slide spring from Galloway. Gun is brand new, looking forward to as they say, see how it runs. Thanks for the video.@@GallowayPrecision
I just installed this on my new Max9. What a difference! The stupid factory banana shaped POS trigger that came on pistol was an absolute abomination! Loose side to side play! 10 miles of take up! Looks ugly as sin! The new Maxxis trigger is much better! I can actually get my finger in the trigger guard without depressing the trigger safety. Take up feels like it has been reduced by 40% - 50%! No more side to slide slop! Looks the way Ruger should have made it in the first place! Install wasn't that tough. Galloway's video did a good job of explaining everything. Great job Galloway! If you have a Max9, get one of these! You will be glad you did.
Why did y'all change the design? The one I have sucks. beveling the side toward the trigger blade safety makes it feel sharp when pulling the trigger. I put my old trigger back in hoping to find the first gen trigger y'all made.
same here i just received my trigger from galloway and its not the same trigger from the video. It has side to side slop, and the trigger safety blade does not work and is a dif shape than the one in the video.
Need to take mine to a gun smith to finish my install. It did not go as smoothly as this instructional video made it out to be. I hammed some other piece out and have no idea what happened and also could not fit the new pin in no matter how hard I tried
So i just my trigger installed, i did a function check, and everything works great, the only thing that seems a bit off, when i pull the trigger when the slide is forward, but the trigger has not been reset, the slide will slightly move back and forward, every time i actuate the trigger. I just wanted to make sure that's normal. Other than that, it's works great.
My trigger safety also wouldn't clear the frame and would leave the trigger unlocked. I noticed it on assembly, but it went away as soon as I had the frame reassembled and dropped back in to the grip.
Please contact our tech through the Galloway Precision website for help with that. We haven't had any of the safety blade springs break, but he'll be able to help you diagnose the issue. Wish I could leave a link, but TH-cam's policy on firearms will not allow it.

Both versions work with the MAX-9 California Approved Model without the need to remove the Magazine Disconnect. The latest offering "Maxxis External Safety Short Stroke Trigger for the Ruger MAX-9 California Model" is for the California model only and eliminates the Trigger Safety leaving the manual safety enabled. For your Cali model it comes down to wanting the trigger safety or not.
I was looking at upgrading the trigger in mine but there are 2 options. There is the california compliant version without a trigger safety on it and this one. Why doesn't the california one have a trigger safety? Is there any reason not to get that one if I don't care about the trigger safety?
We have two versions that work with the MAX-9 California Approved model, the Maxxis Short Stroke Trigger Kit and the Maxxis External Safety Short Stroke Trigger Kit. The choice is yours on whether you'd like the Safety Blade Version or the Non-safety Blade version. It's a personal preference. Both kits come with our stainless pivot pin and work without removing the magazine disconnect in the Cali version.
I put it back together but I didn’t position the tension spring where the trigger pin goes in the way you did and it seems super hard to get into place…how do I get the pin out of the trigger once I have installed the Galloway so I can reposition the spring like you did?
Be glad to help. There are 3 pins to the trigger; the safety blade pin, trigger pivot pin, and trigger locking pin. Which pin are you trying to remove?

Any word on the magazine extension? Or any magazines that can be modified to work? Ive been looking everywhere for one thats even a few rounds larger than ruger’s 12 round extension.
The shoulders on the mag tube are very narrow on the MAX-9 and we will have to mill an aluminum extension for this model. We do have it on the production list, although I do not currently have an ETA as we are getting caught up on top selling items before running new products.
@@GallowayPrecision I appreciate the update, it’s understandable that its not something high priority as most people aren’t in the market for an extended magazine on a sub compact pistol but for me it needs to be a do-all pistol until I expand my collection, thanks again ill be first in line to purchase it once it’s available and I’ll be ordering the short stroke trigger tonight.
I can't get my pin to stay seated. I tap it, just like he says in the video, and as soon as I pull the trigger, it just comes up and unseated. I tapped with some force behind it, and it still pops right out. Any advice?
anyone has an issue with the trigger resetting? i shot it today for the first time and for the first 75 rounds or so it was shooting great but now the trigger doesnt fully reset. I took it apart when i got home cleaned everyhing and check all the parts nothing seems to be wrong. When i rack the slide back pull the trigger, nothing, i need to push the trigger forward hear the click and only then you can hear the firing pin
I have had anyone contact me about that. Please contact our tech through the Galloway Precision website and he can help you diagnose what may be happening there.
Not yet. That one is going to have to be milled from aluminum due to the narrow mag shoulders of that mag. We are currently running full time to keep up with current products and I don't have a firm ETA on that.
The trigger and the black pin that goes horizontally through, tolerance is real tight had to tap it in with the punch. now the steel pin that goes in vertically will not fit in, despite trying to center it in. Anyone else had this problem?
We do test fit each trigger on a nominal pivot before sending them off to anodizing. We have seen an increase in tapered or slight offset in the part line shift on the factory pivot from production. The plastic trigger will stretch over this imperfection, but the aluminum will not. The best option is to fit the pivot to the trigger. Take a look at the factory pivot for the taper or shift, and with some fine sandpaper lightly sand the taper or shift out a little at a time until the trigger properly fits on the trigger pivot. I hope this helps with your installation.
The shoulders on the mag tube are too narrow to properly secure the extension. We will have to make an aluminum version for proper retention. Unfortunately manufacturing this is fairly far down on the list right now do to demand of other existing products.
@@GallowayPrecision Thanks! That damn spring flew across my garage and it's a black floor, but I was able to find it. LMAO... Live and learn! I will be much more careful in the future. Good learning lesson!
We do offer the Sigurd Max Short Stroke Trigger for the LCP MAX. Please check our Galloway Precision website for the trigger. Sorry I can't post the URL due to TH-cam's policy on firearms.
We have seen some of the California compliant models that may need the pivot pin to be fitted. We mill these to a nominal pivot and each are tested. A light sanding on the pivot should get you straightened out. Look for a part line shift or taper on the factory pivot.
Come on and let me get a coupon code for the bodyguard 380 trigger, been faithful customer for a few years and do all my rugers and others with Galloway and have told atleast 20 people directly about Galloway lol.
Thank you, I taped some to a drill bit and took my time. Took about 5 min with 3 or 4 checks until it went in smooth. The trigger feels great! Zero slip now and no more binding on the trigger safety 🎉
The intent of the video is good but shot way too fast. Was able to finalize the upgrade but had to rewind numerous times. BEWARE of springs popping out. Use painters tape on the manual safety to keep this from happening.
much too fast for a novice such as myself. Slower, repetition, and camera close-ups would be great. This video is good for one gunsmith showing something to another gunsmith, not good for a DIY gun owner. Demonstrator spoke like he had a very short time limit. I had to stop and rewind at least 30 times.
We've made it as tight as possible to still allow the mag disconnect plate to function properly within the tolerance range allowed for that pistols manufacturing. In the near future we will be bringing back the standard trigger for those not having the California compliant version of that pistol.
I am ordering this upgrade soon, the video is going to be a big help.

Put on in today. Eliminated the factory trigger side to side slop. Definitely worth every penny. Put some traction grips on as well.
Glad you are pleased with the results. Thanks for the feedback.
@@GallowayPrecision Thank you
Yes I had to do the same thing, that pin in the trigger with the tiny spring took awhile to get lined up.
Thanks for your feedback. We are glad to hear you are pleased with the results. We appreciate you.
Anyone know if adding this to your firearm widely affects the trigger safety (accidental drops) amazing video thanks
Other than that, it's works great.
great product great video, very happy with everything!
That's great to hear. Thank you for the feedback and your business.
I had trouble with the safety catching/binding up in grip frame. Had to modify the safety blade a hair, so it wouldnt bund when pulling the trigger.
My trigger safety also wouldn't clear the frame and would leave the trigger unlocked. I noticed it on assembly, but it went away as soon as I had the frame reassembled and dropped back in to the grip.
How would you fix the trigger safety spring, i think i might have that problem. It seems broken
Please contact our tech through the Galloway Precision website for help with that. We haven't had any of the safety blade springs break, but he'll be able to help you diagnose the issue. Wish I could leave a link, but TH-cam's policy on firearms will not allow it.
Got my trigger upgrade today, I’m one of the lucky ones, my trigger does not reset after installation. 🤦🏻♂️

Now when you mentioned the 18 round mag. Was that for the max 9??
Cause that got me looking everywhere for it and i cant find anything on it.
We are going to have to mill that from aluminum and it has not gone into production yet.
@@GallowayPrecision ima need you guys to put a rush on that haha
I've seen on your website that this trigger will not work on california version Max 9. Are there any triggers for california in the near future?
It will work but will have to remove magazines disconnect i just did it its 100% worth it
What's the difference between this trigger set and the CA-model trigger set for the Max-9?
Hi, did you ever figure out how to get the pin back out? Im having the same issue.
Hello, how do I take the Galloway trigger pin out once it has been installed? I have the Cali version of the gun.
Be glad to help. There are 3 pins to the trigger; the safety blade pin, trigger pivot pin, and trigger locking pin. Which pin are you trying to remove?
@@GallowayPrecision I believe its the trigger locking pin. The one that holds the spring in place when you pass the pin through. The pin at 3:40
The trigger safety does not have to be pressed in for the gun to fire any advise or a defective trigger?
Something has not been installed correctly. Please contact our tech through our website for assistance with your installation. Sorry can't post a link due to TH-cam's policy on firearms.
How do you get the safety back together mine fell out during my install and I can't get it back together right! Is there a video showing how to put the manual safety back together for the Max 9 pistol? Thank you
Our tech can assist you. Please go to our Galloway Precision website and use the Contact Us page to contact our tech for help reinstalling that manual safety. Sorry can't post the email address due to TH-cam's policy on firearms.
Same issue here
My safety trigger is fully engaged. Gun works but the safety portion of the Trigger is non functional. Is this due to the "flashing" mentioned?
Please contact our tech for specific help on your issue. You can use the "Contact Us" form on our Galloway Precision website, it will go directly to tech.
@@GallowayPrecision thanks for the response
Love the new trigger and video was a great help just maybe next time take it a little slower for us in the back. We get it, you can go fast.
Oh exciting! I need 1
Of course it only comes in red or black
You guys are making an 18 round magazine? Still in production, or out soon?
We have just finished testing the new MAX-9 extension and should have it on the website mid to late next week.
@@GallowayPrecision Excited to hear this. I hope you guys make lots and don't sell out, I currently live in California but in the next year or so will move, will be one of the very first things I buy when I do!
I tried to follow your video but parts kept falling out of my gun now I cant assemble it back together.
Sorry you are having trouble. We do offer Trigger installation here or if you have a qualified gunsmith in your area, that may be an option. For help with your installation you can certainly contact us through our website to set up a time to send it in or we can help walk you through it.
@@GallowayPrecision Any updates on extended mags? I'll buy three!
@maxkosar1029 many of us still waiting on that for sure
Cant wait for the 18 round mag
What?
@@clinteastwood666 yea in the end of the video he said there working on a 18 round magazine
@@joelguerrero9882still waiting.
I can't get my pin to stay seated. I tap it, just like he says in the video, and as soon as I pull the trigger, it just comes up and unseated. I tapped with some force behind it, and it still pops right out. Any advice?
Spring tension for the win!!!!
Im sorry what about the 18 round magazine please?
Just to be clear I live down the road and am totally down for being a guinea pig for these
That extension will need to be milled due to the narrow shoulders of the mag tube. We are currently working on this.
Any update on the 18 round mag?
That is going to have to be aluminum and we are waiting on the custom tooling at the moment.
Did that extended magazine ever come out?
What ever happened to the extended magazine? Did that happen?
The mag tube shoulders are to small and we will be needing to mill that one from aluminum. It is still on our list but I do not have a current ETA.
@@GallowayPrecision hey thanks for answering! Can't wait till the trigger gets here.
anyone has an issue with the trigger resetting? i shot it today for the first time and for the first 75 rounds or so it was shooting great but now the trigger doesnt fully reset.
Has anything come of the magazine extensions yet?
Finalizing it. Should be ready by the end of the month.
@@GallowayPrecision any idea on the price point?
@@GallowayPrecision any update?
Has the 18 round mag been released?
Not yet. That one is going to have to be milled from aluminum due to the narrow mag shoulders of that mag. We are currently running full time to keep up with current products and I don't have a firm ETA on that.
You know what would have been cool, you saying that spring needed to be inside BEFORE putting the new pin into the trigger first rather than after…ugh
Did they ever release a Ca trigger upgrade? :/
We are currently in production. Should not be too much longer.
@@GallowayPrecisioncan you let me know when it’s ready for sure I will buy asap.
Love mine
Does the silver pin seat flush? Mine will drop in but can't get it down all the way.. someone help this is my first trigger install
Have to use a mallet/hammer and punch until it’s fully seated inside.
I have the same issue. It fits flat, but when I pull the trigger it pops out. I banged on it a whole bunch...
Where’s the mags already?!!!!
What happened to the magazine extension?
The shoulders on the mag tube are too narrow to properly secure the extension. We will have to make an aluminum version for proper retention. Unfortunately manufacturing this is fairly far down on the list right now do to demand of other existing products.
Thanks for the video, but shift out of overdrive into about second gear, and close ups of everything done will sell more kits.. thanks..
Thanks for the suggestion. We'll try and slow things down a bit. Good point on the closeups.
My safety has a snafu.. found the spring to it but it's not smooth
There is a small black detent that the spring goes up inside and faces the safety lever. Please double check you have that is installed.
@@GallowayPrecision Thanks! That damn spring flew across my garage and it's a black floor, but I was able to find it. LMAO... Live and learn! I will be much more careful in the future. Good learning lesson!
What optic is this?
That is the Shield Sights RMSc.
Cant get the take down plate back on and the spring for the trigger just snapped smh

@@GallowayPrecision thanks. Already got an email reply from you guys and already purchased one
My cross pin doesn't fit the new trigger.
We have seen some of the California compliant models that may need the pivot pin to be fitted. We mill these to a nominal pivot and each are tested. A light sanding on the pivot should get you straightened out. Look for a part line shift or taper on the factory pivot.
It’s like Ruger was peaking through the window of the P365 board meeting 🤨
Come on and let me get a coupon code for the bodyguard 380 trigger, been faithful customer for a few years and do all my rugers and others with Galloway and have told atleast 20 people directly about Galloway lol.
Is this trigger metal or plastic
If you look on the website it says aluminum
It is aluminum.
the cross pin does not fit into the trigger that was sent to me.

Thank you, I taped some to a drill bit and took my time. Took about 5 min with 3 or 4 checks until it went in smooth. The trigger feels great! Zero slip now and no more binding on the trigger safety 🎉
Can't get this silver pin into the trigger for the life of me holes look like they match up.. won't drop in

What is the trigger pull weight ?
Pull weight is the same as stock. We are improving the leverage point and staging so it will feel lighter, but does not change the pull weight itself.
@GallowayPrecision sounds good , still better than the stock. I'll be ordering it soon.thanks
The intent of the video is good but shot way too fast. Was able to finalize the upgrade but had to rewind numerous times.
BEWARE of springs popping out.
Use painters tape on the manual safety to keep this from happening.
Sure wish your lighting was better. You were going so fast hard to see with all the shadows.

much too fast for a novice such as myself. Slower, repetition, and camera close-ups would be great. This video is good for one gunsmith showing something to another gunsmith, not good for a DIY gun owner. Demonstrator spoke like he had a very short time limit. I had to stop and rewind at least 30 times.
Am I the only lying one that can't get the trigger pin out?
It drives out from the top. What issues are you having?

Terrible tutorial video please slow it down and point stuff out
How do I eliminate the trigger rattle it doesn’t fit quite flush and it rattles around a lot in the gun.
We've made it as tight as possible to still allow the mag disconnect plate to function properly within the tolerance range allowed for that pistols manufacturing. In the near future we will be bringing back the standard trigger for those not having the California compliant version of that pistol.
@@GallowayPrecision sounds great I’ll be picking that one up as well then
