Nah. He fell into the Greeks and got far fast because of it. But he made every move you can make to get pinched. No middlemen, no code, buying in cash under your name, etc. He was a better boss than Ziggy, thats about it. Hell, his scene with Prop Joe was hilariously telling, him think Joe was straight with it because of whats right is right. He was a likeable kid but he never took it seriously enough because he thought he was above the lifestyle for most of his life.
With the" Greeks " he would have been above the lifestyle or in a different part of it. And learned to fix the mistakes you correctly point out. He couldn't let go of working class morality as the scene next shows his reaction to the old white lady looking at him through the window. He wasn't ready to realize he was her hero in this moment and everything he saw coming big picture was true.
This video cuts the best part. Where he sees the old lady looking at him with disgust from the window and he realizes that he is just another "down, street wise whigger" as well.
I haven't finished the show yet (I'm on Season 4), but Season 2 was my favorite so far. I loved the Sobotka storyline and the way it all culminated tragically towards the end.
It's not given enough respect for how it elevated the show. Two took a huge risk by completely changing up the main focus of the show, and it was unprecedented for them to do that at the time since it was only the second season. I'm sure everyone expected them to just continue focusing on the same people, same conflicts. But they didn't, and season two cemented how the show's overall narrative structure would work, where each season focuses on a different institution in Baltimore while continuing plot lines from other areas. And without that structure the Wire would be a very different show, almost certainly for the worse.

What I mean by that is, it was segregated and you better not get caught in those neighborhoods after dark. For one thing, you had no business in those ethnic hoods after dark. It's called the ILA, and I'm certain the local in Baltimore would be in Dundalk, where all the real commercial tonnage is handled. And I'm not sure where in New Jersey they found all the actors on this show, but nobody in Baltimore sounds like that. The only white character in The Wire with an actual Baltimore accent is, oddly enough, Ziggy.

And Locust Point's on the other side of the harbor, and the traffic there is mostly cruise ships. The union's not called the IBS. It's called the ILA, and I'm certain the local in Baltimore would be in Dundalk, where all the real commercial tonnage is handled. And I'm not sure where in New Jersey they found all the actors on this show, but nobody in Baltimore sounds like that. The only white character in The Wire with an actual Baltimore accent is, oddly enough, Ziggy.

Frog is obviously oblivious to the concept of 'the pecking order.' The money flows to the top, and the shit always trickles down. The idea of a grunt trying to negotiate for 50% is maddeningly unrealistic, not to mention a pretty solid indicator of his naivete.
More like he's hoping to take advantage of someone he hopes is naive. Nick's never worked with drugs before, and Frog is trying to con him out of some money. He figured it worked with Nick's cousin Ziggy, might as well give it a try. (And on top of that he probably lied his ass off to Ziggy when he claimed that the police raided the stash house and took the package.) But Nick is a lot smarter than Ziggy, too smart to go for it.
Right, and all throughout season 2 we see how much more adept at 'the Game' nick is compared to ziggy.
I think he was part of an independent crew. He wouldn't have bought a package from Nicky otherwise.
Frog was cool though.
