Mchale had a broken foot and couldn't go left. Danny Ainge had hip issues and parish had sprained ankle. Larry was the healthiest player which wasn't saying much. But this shot by bird was straight in. We all thought it was going in.
What kills me it is there is multiple facets to the game. As we all age and we cannot play as much. But you have to give 100% every play. If you can only play 20 minutes at 40 years old. So be it. However, bring it every play. Jordan and Bird brought it every play. Other stars do not do it now.
Bird would destroy today’s NBA. Even in 1979 when the NBA was a lot tougher, a few weeks into his ROOKIE season Bird confided to a teammate, “This league is nothing.” He led a Boston Celtics team that was 29-53 the year before he arrived, to a 61-21 championship contender his rookie year! The only difference between those 2 teams? Boston drafted the Birdman. And the next year - 1980-81? Bird’s Celtics won it all! They had to go through the defending champs Dr J, Moses Malone and the Philadelphia 76ers just to GET to the NBA Finals, and then beat the Houston Rockets.
@@9Ballr Oops! You’re right! I should’ve said “They had to go through ECF defending champs…” Magic Johnson/Lakers won it all his first year in the league. Re: Moses Malone not being there until 1982, you’re right again! Guess I’m getting too old - memory getting faulty. But the 76ers still were one helluva team with Dr. J, Bobby Jones, Maurice Cheeks, etc. Thanks for the correction!
@@Widdermaker No problem. I was a 76ers and Dr. J. fan, so I suffered through most of those series against Bird and the Celtics until rejoicing in 1983.
LeBron in the 80s would be a thumb sucker curled into the fetal position because of physicality. He would be mediocre at best in the 60s to 90s if he had the no touch defense mentality he is accustomed to in this day and age. LeBron is a kitty cat as far as toughness and pure sports masculinity.
ha ha ha, Sorry LeFlop Had His Prime Years, And He Is Not Doing Prime Playing Today. Hell He Takes So Much Time Off Over Nothing It's Just Stupid. They Didn't Do That In The 80's Because They're "Stressed". It's Not Just LeFlop That Gets Away With It Either. Like I Said If They Don't Get Close To Going Back In The 80's Rules. They Will Be Made Too. They Are Loosing Money Big Time, Because What They Are Playing It's Just NOT Real BB Any Longer. What They Forgot About Was Once Up On a Time, Their Fan's Meant Something To Them. So Yea They Would Play Hurt. And A Few That Took Time Off For Being "Stressed" Got Traded A Lot And Never Was Able To Be In The Leagues Long. One Thing Larry Said, "I can't take off for a little hurt, these fans paid with their hard earned money to see they're favorite players". That's another Big reason Larry retired. He felt like He was not able to on the court enough & that wasn't fair to the fans. But His Fans Loved Him So Much They Didn't Care If He Had To Take Off A Lot, BUT It Mattered To Bird.
Larry had such confidence and nerves of steel. He loved taking the last shot!
I think if they had not left Bird open, I bet he would have made it. It was when it was really hard, he did it.

Whatever Jemelle Hill says, just think the opposite and you'll be correct. LOL.

Philadelphia wasn't the defending champs in 80-81, the Lakers were. Malone didn't go to the 76ers until 1982.
