seeing elio on your channel is such a little blessing since i have been a subscriber for some years now! definite a heartwarming crossover. absolutely adored the editing of this video, as always. i am constantly inspired to embark on a little everyday adventure after watching your vlogs and i am thankful for your presence this cold cold winter 🤍 hope the next months treat you gently
i hope you go on a wonderful adventure in the near future! even a small excursion to break mundanity would do the day good. hope you have a wholesome few weeks left in the year
why did the shot of you opening elio's lil wrapped book gift make me so happy :')) bookish friends are the best also would love to hear your thoughts sometime on reading in multiple languages like do you do it often/enjoy it, any amazing nathan thoughts on it bc i find it so fun & interesting !

it’s wonderful to have a friend who keeps you accountable for your reading goals (your gun-pointing gesture is hilarious, ha!). anyone who has you as a reading companion in a bookstore or a cafe can count themselves lucky!! also also, love the concept of seoul outdoor library! it’s a much-needed sanctuary in a bustling city for folks in need of healing time. adding that to my list for a possible visit to seoul next fall - fingers crossed 🤞
@@yenlyn_g we’ve got goals to keep! will always keep fam on top of their game!!! hope your reading year is going strong! have you met your reading goals? ✨💪🏼 YES! i think it’s something they like to introduce when summer cools and autumn begins! but it’s wonderful to see so many outside reading! pls do try and visit seoul in fall it’s such a treat! ✨🍭
@@nathansnook good timing - I just hit my reading goal with Alphabetical Diaries (thanks to your recommendation) as my 40th book of the year! having mixed thoughts about the book. on one hand, I appreciate her timely reminders for us navigating our late 20s to early 30s; on the other, there are lots of men in her life (eg. Lars, Pavel) I find hard remembering that I feel disconnected from her writing at times. I admire her flair for prose regardless! how do you feel about her mention of different people in her life?
@@yenlyn_g safe to say she had her fair share of situationships...haha but upon a reread, i thought more about the ways we borrow love from past loves and how we incorporate what we've learned into what we know. if how we love is similar/the same for the various people in our lives. also, the way she characterizes the people in her life reminded me a lot of the way Cusk does! presenting the meat of people with the direst of who they are and what they go through, but here, it's filtered in archival first person in the diary voice. i don't think it entirely works, but fascinating! i always find Heti to be really interesting when it comes to her experimentation. it keeps the mode of literature hot and us on our toes!
i adore your editing style and the atmosphere of your videos...been thinking about the meaning of "home" a lot recently, so the timing couldn't have been better (will definitely check that book out). lovely to see this crossover episode with Elio too, i love you guys' content! this video was two surprises in one to start my week on a good note :)
@@ozgu777 thank you for such a lovely comment! i hope reckonings with home come to gentle realizations for you! it’s always changing for me and something that i think i’ll think about as i make a home within myself! and we luv Elio! thanks for being here. your presence matters 💫
sissy spacek/shelley duvall are for me the prime examples of a sort of 70s american fawn-like quirky beauty. i used to find them SO creepy bc they were everything i could not imagine a face and body being. i've softened since my teen years lol sisterhood -- and the blurry borders of fem-coded intimacies in general -- is a fascinating thing. that's why there's so much material on it. i think some of the mysterious folds you mention are there bc they've been allowed to be: girls and women as they're defined by society are given more space to form weird and wonderful and terrible attachments. and a part of gender performance is defined by relation style: i have the relationships i have not bc of sex and gender; i am defined as a "girl" bc i have these sorts of attachments
i was so put off by Popeye and The Shining because of Duvall for so long but i’ve always loved the roles she took on. when she plays vulnerable characters, she is the wound itself, bleeding and open and so full in her performances. to see the two of them together, who have always chosen off-kilter roles, i think breathes life to this sisterhood relationship. through their attachments, how they come together, fall apart, mend and blend. it’s such a wonderful space they share!
Fall has taken a long time to get here too and now it’s here to stay. I loved seeing Sondheim himself giving direction on Send in the Clowns. It reminds me of the superb podcast episode of Backlisted, #155. Finishing The Hat and Look, I Made a Hat. It’s about Sondheim’s 2 volumes of lyrics, memoir, criticism. Fascinating!!
@@thelefthandedreader6632 the way he gives notes is so beautiful and clear to me! and so gentle too! and thank you for this rec! will get to it soon! Sondheim will always have my heart 💗
Great video! Loved the outside public library. I read Leila Slimani's Chanson douce, I remember it had a horrible title in English (The perfect nanny), but it's a really good novel, quite disturbing, about social differences, social unjustice and privileged people (and it's based on a true story). I'm waiting to know your favorite books of the year!
If you want to read a non YA book in which censorship plays a role, I highly recommend The Tsar of Love and Techno by Anthony Marra. It's fantastic! And I'm sure you would love the writing as well.

i’ve not! but i just looked it up and i think the style is something i’ve been mixing into my vlogs actually! i have a good feeling Printed Matter would carry the em-dash book ! 😭😭 if ur ever around the chelsea galleries !
