As a former Apple Employee I can tell you chances of that happening are slim to none. Nearly 10 years working there, and trying to even get them to even recognize Blender..didn’t happen until I was about to leave. Apple now hires idiots to run most everything there. Non-techies, who don’t know WiFi from C++. Wish I was kidding.

Blender is a lot more hardware-dependent unfortunately, unlike Godot. Godot was built from the ground up to be deployed on any platform no matter how ridiculous, Blender depends on a lot of desktop-specific things

My dream of drawing sprites and making games all on my iPad is FINALLY coming true! It's so frustrating how powerful new iPads are, and yet there's barely any apps that utilize said power.
With this, nomad sculpt or valance 3d for modeling, cozy blanket or uniform for retopology (uniform can also “sculpt” normal maps), procreate for texture painting, and soon morphin 3d for rigging and animation. The iPad could make some sweet 3d games all on its own
There are other powerful apps on the iPad but the problem is that most can't really use all of that power in a good way. Hardware has been excepional for years and I hope they'll eventually give developers tools to use it
for Apple, the hardware specs are just marketing gimmicks because they know it can never be used to the full potential and they control the walled garden

@@MichielvandenAnker I got a new laptop, installed linux as dual boot. It occupies 2.5GB of memory out of 16GBs. When I boot windows, 8Gbs of 16 is already occupied. Gives so much more performance on linux
I saw someome running Godot on an iPad over a year ago but it wasn't ready for sharing and hacky to get working. I wouldn't mind paying a fee to get Xogot, as there has been many times I've wanted to make a change to a project or test out an idea and it's cumbersome to carry around an iPad and a laptop or even Chromebook around. I usually carry my iPad everywhere so this would be an amazing addition! 🎉

Except the cost to your dignity for alignment with an engine which is pushing “the message” while banning top tier supporters for asking them to pay attention to development rather than virtue signaling. It is incredible you can do game development on an I pad. Really I do think this is absolutely revolutionary. However we are still in a world where people are treated as less than just for objecting against overt propaganda being forced on us. I don’t think it is wise to overlook any company that will block its own supporters for simply asking for not wanting to be preached to when he is waiting for solutions around bitmaps support should be noted as being a possible problem. They blocked hundreds of people from the GitHub page so they couldn’t even download it. If you have any strong political opinions at all you shouldn’t worry that the open source engine you use might be able to revoke your license simply for being of a particular opinion. That is what I would describe as a hidden fee.
I wonder if any of these interface tweaks will make it to the desktop? I sorta kinda like the right hand sidebar way of handling nested resources, but it needs a breadcrumb or similar so you can jump back quick.
Godot on an ipad is a lovecraft monster🤣 edit: I forgot this would be pronounced as "zogot" by native english speakers. My native language is portuguese. "X" is usually pronounced as "SH", not as "Z", so xogot would be pronounced as shogot, almost like shoggoth, the lovecraftian monster.
Are you going to cover s&box? It's a new game platform/engine based on source 2 by Facepunch studios (whom created Garry's mod and Rust). It runs modern .NET 9, uses html/scss for UI, Unity-like editor, networking built in and standalone exporting. Still in early development though but it would be nice to get some coverage.
I hope that as the result of this project, we would have native UI controls available to godot. It is very critical on mobile to have native looks for screens.
I am now waiting for Jetpack Compose ones! (Android but instead of raw whole, it's also mobile friendly with that Godot as a widget view) Wonder if Flutter ones also there.
Can you save files/games/projects in a cloud drive/OneDrive so you can work on the same game from your iPad and PC? It would be really cool to do work from home then continue that work with your iPad elsewhere

Is this cross-compatible with standard godot? Can you work on a project on Pc and then pull it up on iPad in a pinch, and use GitHub or similar to swap back and forth? If so this becomes an awesome way to do a bit of dev on the go or from the couch
seems it would be frustrating to script with though....because then you need and external keyboard to do it competently...then you have to ask, why don't I just have a laptop..???

There is a link to the form. You fill out the form then when accepted you get a code. You use an app on iPad called test flight and enter that code and presto. So yeah while in testing not the easiest process.
Very impressive. Just a pity I can’t click with the Godot way of working and I’m not keen on GDscript. Last time I checked C# was still a second class citizen. I want to like it but I still prefer Unity.
Don't really understand where this second class citizen dialouge comes from, I've been using c# for a whole now and other than needing am external editor it's not bad at all. Seem like the only people who keep repeating this second class citizen nonsense are people who don't use it.
Hey you are completely right I don’t really use it. It is the perception I have on it however. Usually I read someone say I want to use Godot but that they want to use C#. Then usually what follows is a bunch of Godot users saying one should rather use GDscript because of reasons. i’m just not a fan right now of how the node system and stuff works. I guess it’s familiarity and that the reason I think that way. A lot of time spent getting familiar with a tool is sometimes difficult to just unlearn I guess. I will give Godot it another go sometime but right now it’s not a priority.
This wouldn’t be using C# (Miguel is on record explaining why C# isn’t great for games.) This uses Swift, and you can see it in the code examples on screen in the video.

Blender is GPL, which means it's banned from the App Store. No point porting it. Godot is MIT License which means it's practically public domain, no restrictions.

I can't imagine someone wanting to make a game who doesn't at least own a real computer, but this guy does impressive work at least. I wish more projects had someone like him on board; open source apps might not be such a usability nightmare.

I 100% would've used this as a kid, a decade ago I made do with an app called Codea that let you make games using Lua scripting and some OpenGL wrapper functions
Miguel is a very smart guy , I have some experience with his previous work. I don’t see any advantage by using this specific solution when it comes to developing games
Ipads are great at asset creation. And now you can put those assets to use on the same device. Instead of me needing a computer and an ipad for game jams, I now can use just an iPad.
Some people are trying to finish "Godot" but what other application can you do something similar to? Free and open source software. Apple was also the cause of the Unity nonsense.

I really like this UI, even compared to the desktop version. Porting to iPad really gave them an excuse to give Godot a nicer user experience!
Only nicer for a touch screen only device. Would be terrible to use on anything with a dedicated mouse and keyboard.
Apple’s UI is really beautiful. Makes you wonder what a macOS port of Godot with the Apple UI would look like.

Blender has too many requirements for keyboard commands and will be a super long shot. Consider other tools in the meantime like Nomad Sculpt etc.

If IOS doesn't allow to produce .ipa app files then only by generating game files that are read by godot player.

For me, all I have is an iPad Pro with a 2gen Apple Pencil and typing cover/case, my only option for game dev was GDevelop for iOS

@@dovmerrill804 the main thing I feel we’re missing is a good texturing app and shader editor. Tbh I have ideas for both but they are down on my list of priorities atm 😅

Still, it would be nice if there was a way to work out the licensing issues (not going to happen, I’m sure). Seems like we are talking about artificial constructs here and not technical issues (obviously).
I can't imagine someone wanting to make a game who doesn't at least own a real computer, but this guy does impressive work at least. I wish more projects had someone like him on board; open source apps might not be such a usability nightmare.
You'd be very surprised at how many people only have access to used tech like old phones and old tablets.
@@stevethepocket Depends on your definition of “real computer “. Most wouldn’t consider the iPad a “real computer”, but it’s possible to do quite a few computing tasks on it. I’m sure you already know this, though.
I 100% would've used this as a kid, a decade ago I made do with an app called Codea that let you make games using Lua scripting and some OpenGL wrapper functions

Ipads are great at asset creation. And now you can put those assets to use on the same device.
Instead of me needing a computer and an ipad for game jams, I now can use just an iPad.
Some people are trying to finish "Godot" but what other application can you do something similar to? Free and open source software. Apple was also the cause of the Unity nonsense.
Have you tried it on your vision pro device? I was wondering how it works. Apple devices seem to be saved by godot.
