I haven't read these yet, but I'm very interested in Kelly Link's The Book of Love and Helen Oyeyemi's Parasol Against the Axe, so I'm kind of rooting for them.
Happy birthday! 🥳 My thirties were my best so far but I'm a couple of years into my forties and I think they're shaping up to be even better 😊 The only book I am predicting/hoping for is Falling Animals by Sheila Armstrong which I loved.
We have four predictions in common! Excited to see which others make it. Yay for the Plodalong! I'm glad you're joining us again. I have had great times in both my 20s and 30s, moving on to my next decade very soon! 😬 Happy Birthday!
You are in such an infectiously good mood in this video, it is the perfect start to my day. I'm working on my prediction video currently, we have 2 in common, Enter Ghost and Talking at Night. Talking at Night is the only book that should be compared to Normal People. Never heard of Louisa Hall before, so thank you for that, added that to my tbr regardless of if it makes the longlist or not.
So interesting, thank you! I haven't read any of these and will be picking a couple up regardless of whether they make the list (Reproduction sounds so good, can't resist a Mary Shelley connection) I haven't double checked eligibility in terms of dates, but my ride or die books in the last few months have been Penance by Eliza Clarke and Ordinary Human Failings by Megan Nolan. If Ordinary Human Failings is longlisted I will be insufferable, I loved it
Happy Birthday Charlotte! I’ve found my 30s not so different from my 20s so far 👀 I’m so excited that prize season is back!!!! We have only got one in common I think, but it’s such a great year for fiction that it’s hard to narrow down. Reproduction is a great shout 👌
Hi Charlotte. Yes, we missed you. I try to forget my teens. My 20s were rough. My 30s were so much better. And my 40s were better. And my 50s are even better. So far every decade has been an improvement over the last.
Welcome Back, Charlotte! Happy Birthday. Life continues to get better the older I get. I hope the same for you. An interesting list...Enter Ghost sounds like one I need to read. Sleeping Giants sounds good too. 😊💙
Happy birthday! I loved my later twenties as I felt more settled as a human and I've only turned 30 last summer. So far so good, but there was definitely mixed feelings leaving my twenties and entering a new decade (and mentally unpacking all the societal expectations that come with that). That said, 29 was a fabulous year for me personally and I hope the same for you! There's always so many new to me titles on the Women's Prize so I'll be interested to see which of yours are accurately predicted and which will be surprises! Enter Ghost sounds really interesting, but I agree that for WP's it's a long shot.
This is a fantastic list, and I'd be happy to see many of the books mentioned longlisted for the prize. I haven't heard of Reproduction by Louisa Hall, but it sounds fascinating. I may have to snag that one even if it doesn't get nominated (thanks for bringing it to my attention). Cheers!
WP season is here baby!! Love the list. I’ve just finished The Storm We Made, and would be happy to see that make the list. Can’t wait for your Plodalong episode!! It’s going to be hilarious 😂
Great list of titles! The Vulnerables was on my discarded list. Enter Ghost is on my predictions list too! :) Hitting 30 feels like a big one but it's not, it's all the same haha except you start needing more sunscreen and such 🤪😆
my thirties were my best decade partly because things were so much better in the US than now even though someone I didn't like was president. But the main reason was I'd just come out of a long rough patch and felt great. Also the books and music in the eighties were very good. The book on your list I'm most interested in reading is reproduction which as you said is a very hot topic here now. Enjoy your birthday!⚛😀
Enjoyed hearing your predictions, Charlotte. I can't wait to see what is longlisted for the women's prize for fiction this year. I read Land of Milk and Honey. I quite enjoyed it but it isn't a new favourite. I gave it 3 stars ☺
For me teens were great fun but my 30’s were my best as I got to meet my favourite humans (my kids) and I just didn’t worry so much. Now in my mid 50’s. Happy Birthday.
CHARLOTTE!!! The WP is my favorite book award and though fiction is my preference I’m still excited they’ve a non fiction prize now . I may not read any of them , but still like women being acknowledged
My 30s have been a great decade to get rid of things that don't serve me - beliefs, relationships, patterns: It's been a time full of realisations that I never saw coming. A much less insecure decade than my 20s - in my 20s I tried to be more like everyone else, my 30s are to undo that and reconnect with the weird kiddo I was always meant to be
Thanks for the recognition of our difficult days here in the United States. I had Reproduction on my Kindle but had somehow forgotten about it. Thanks for refreshing my memory! It might be just what I need right now. You should definitely come the the Pacific Northwest for a road trip one day. I live in Western Washington (Seattle) and it takes my breath away every day. Oh! I forgot to add my hopes and dreams for the long list. I always hesitate the make predictions, but I think Soldier Sailor by Claire Kilroy is worthy, along with Loot by Tania James. I can't imagine Lauren Groff not being nominated for Vaster Wilds. I haven't read it, but she's the literary darling du jour.
What do you think will be on the 2024 Womens Prize Longlist?? 🏆
I haven't read these yet, but I'm very interested in Kelly Link's The Book of Love and Helen Oyeyemi's Parasol Against the Axe, so I'm kind of rooting for them.

Same Jennifer. I loved my thirties but we are only early doors with our forties so there is still hope 🙏😂
@@CharlieBrookReads absolutely! 😊
Ooo great shout on Falling Animals Jennifer!
We have four predictions in common! Excited to see which others make it.

Both of your choices are eligible I believe! 😁
Happy Birthday Charlotte! I’ve found my 30s not so different from my 20s so far 👀

Thanks Ben! Looking forward to your list!
Hi Charlotte, not in relation to the women’s prize, i have just finished Whale due to your recommendation, what a read throughly enjoyed it. Thankyou
Wonderful! Thank you for telling me! 😁
Hi Charlotte. Yes, we missed you.
I try to forget my teens. My 20s were rough. My 30s were so much better. And my 40s were better. And my 50s are even better. So far every decade has been an improvement over the last.
Love that!

Thank you Tracey! 💃🎂

Hey! Yeah I like the sound of 1 or 2 of the NF prize now that it has been announced and I've gone through the longlisters! 😁
I felt that Land of Milk and Honey had a fabulous concept that failed to take off. Honestly I’d be surprised if it made the list.
Agree, I ended up dnfing it because of exactly your reasoning. It had so much promise initially...no take off!
My 30s have been a great decade to get rid of things that don't serve me - beliefs, relationships, patterns: It's been a time full of realisations that I never saw coming. 💕
1990s was the best decade I was alive to experience. as for my age it was my 30s.
Agree re the 1990s being the best decade - they were my 20s 😊
Happy birthday 🎂 🎉🥳🍀💐
I have 6 decades to choose from which makes it hard to choose. Teens? Fifties?
Thank you! 😁

A Pacific northwest road trip is a dream! 😍
Two recent books I highly recommend to you

Hello Beautiful

My 30's I think. All the decades have been pretty good though.
Good to hear Judy!
The thirties were my best decade 😉
Great predictions and look forward to the anti womens prize list too😂❤
P.s yeah for the return of the Plodalong 🎉🎉
