    Cheaper option. Create door. DONE! Set green barrel of floor, use wedge to keep in place, roll with foot to mix when needed.

      It's easier to get the dirt out if it's on a stand. Preferably one high enough to roll a wheelbarrow underneath. 😉

    I made a revolving compost maker from a blue 200 litre drum.( I painted it grey to increase the heat. Unbelievable, I filled it up and got about 80 litres of very nice compost in just under 3 weeks. Amazing. Didn't bother with a handle as its easy to turn by hand.

    What a great use for an old barrel, Every gardener needs one. I got my tumbler used at a garage sale (Got real lucky people quit gardening), If /when it breaks I will build one like this as it is low cost option. Very glad you decided to relocated those door latches. Thank you for sharing.

      The table saw is 230V and sent in a balabayan box from Ireland. The band saw was given to me by my father and I shipped it here with the wood lathe

    Get a tripod and set it where it covers what your doing . This moving everywhere makes me DIZZY! Otherwise good information. 😊

    Why add a motor? Do you plan on having it tumble all day? I would think a motor is overkill and unnecessary. That aside, I do find inspiration in this design.

    • @IrishChippy
      @IrishChippy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes. you are correct, Dustin. It was just an idea that it would tumble itself a few revolutions every 2 or 3 days on a timer.

    6/29/21-I made a similar tumbler and used several latches to keep the door/opening closed but the doors buckled and I tried adding pieces to close the gap , but it does not close very well . Did your doors hold up or buckle ? If they did not warp or buckle ,did u do anything to prevent them from buckling/warping? Any ideas how I can fix my doors? Also made the holes too large on my barrel and compost falls out .Any ideas how I can close the holes ? Is their some sort of patch material/adhesive I could use to fill the holes? Do u think I could use some old screen material and glue pieces of the screen to the holes to cover up the holes so only air can come out.What kind of glue can u suggest I use that will glue screen material to the plastic barrel or should I drill small screw holes and attach the screen material with the small screws?What kind of screw could I use? thank u.

      Hi Donna. Thank you for watching. I switched over to stainless steel spring loaded toggle latches. I put a link in the description. There are not any glues I could think of that would work well with PE plastic. You could maybe bolt on on small pieces of the same material or other pliable plastic with 4mm SS nuts and bolts, and then drill smaller hole in the. It depends on how many holes you have to cover.

    I'm working on something similar. After living with it awhile, how do you like it? Does it work well enough? Any changes you'd make?

    What are the dimensions of your door ??
    If you build another, what dimensions would you recommend, or keep the same ??

    How well did it work? Would you make any improvements? How many days did it take to make compost?

    • @IrishChippy
      @IrishChippy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It works great Andrew. Yes I modified by putting on toggle latches like these amzn.to/2MgY30G Also I would make it simpler/cheaper with a plastic pipe instead. Usually between 14 and 28 days

    I love the concept. I really can appreciate the wood working of the stand, seeing how I have little experience working with wood. I definitely will give one a go using your ideas. Thanks!
