NFTs feel like baseball cards. They have no value beyond the joy you get from looking at them. CCGs are games where the game pieces can have value beyond the game. It's a nice benefit to the hobby, but shouldn't be the main draw. Lorcana is really popular here in so cal, but that probably has to do with the proximity to disneyland. MTG being able to fumble so much of what they do and continue to grow is such a bad thing for the market. I'm so over it. My excitement at finding out my SWCCG cards still had value can not be overstated. It was such a nice surprise. Your views on hobbies is what I've been trying to tell people about conventions. I see so many people talking about the EV of going to Gps and Magic fests and it's so annoying. Most hobbies don't ever think about it in terms of EV. Love the content. Happy new year!!
Totally agree on NFTs and much like baseball cards, they don't have much appeal to me. To each their own, but I do think it's an uphill battle to get people to get excited about images on a computer. MTG is in a funny place right now... I think they may get a bit addicted to the cash grabs from universes beyond and MTG in a few years will be a bit unrecognizable (even more so then it is today). Really appreciate the viewership and glad that this channel has been useful! Happy new year! More to come!
Speaking on Collector's Boosters, SWU The Jump To Lightspeed (next set) will have Carbonite Boosters, which are the collector boosters. That will end in a cash grab like the MTG LotR stuff.
I always thought carbonite was a funny name for a collector pack. Like is carbonite rare? Isn’t it just what they use to freeze random stuff for transport? But I agree on the money grab with the carbonite packs.
I agree with all these unpopular takes, haha Your point about Dead CCGs being time bombs is an important perspective. The ideal way to enjoy the hobby is to have fun, enjoy the nostalgia, and assume it will be worthless when you are old. Hand it off to your kids and tell them how much meaning they had to you, and it will keep some life to it!
100%. I’m doing all of this because I like it. If I wanted to try and cash in on cards I’d have a channel focused on mtg or pokemon or whatever. I dip my toes in those spaces when something super interesting comes along, otherwise I’m very happy with my dead ccgs and the enjoyment I get from collecting, playing and appreciating these games. Thanks for tuning in all year! Appreciate the viewers a lot as there wouldn’t be any of these unpopular opinions without you guys. Happy new year!
Thanks guys! Looking forward to BoardMatt 2025!
Steve will return!!
LFG!
FaB just watching the party: Slow and steady
Agreed. Slowly growing

You know you are listening to uneducated people when they use the term “market manipulation” seriously and this video is no exception.
Cool. 🎉
