This video is all about remembering a few sentances to help you get the derivatives correct. Remember that the mnemonics out there in other reviews are not at all related to the individual structures (Crest, Tube, Surface, etc.) so it's pretty challenging to learn these associations unless you use more purposeful mnemonics. To summarize what you should remember:
"you CLEAN the surface with SOAP"
    "a Tube of NEASPOREN"
    "SPAMS MOTEL with Crest toothpaste"
"CLEAR TV with Malcolm in the Middle on it"

@Mirette Atnas Hi, you're right! Both follicular cells and C cells (parafollicular) are derived from endoderm (branchial Pouches). FA'2019 has it written on p.322, p.599, and p. 607. The problem is that this is a relatively RECENT discovery. If you look up most of the current literature it will (incorrectly) say that it is neural crest.

For anyone studying this last minute, something that helps me is just memorizing overarching ideas that can get me points. It's not all encompassing, but could be helpful!
Surface ectoderm - Things that are more on the surface
Neural tube - Anything CNS related
Neural crest - Anything PNS related or act like neural cells outside of the CNS.
Mesoderm and Endoderm are basically presented similarly in the video already :)
Good luck! And thanks again, Dirty!

Anterior Pituitary (AP at end of soAP) = Surface ectoderm. “And then the other one, is the other one” -goljan. Posterior pituitary = Neural tube. High yield.

For neural crest, a better mnemonic is MASS PASTE (hotels/motels keep alot of free toothpaste so mass paste)
    M- melanocytes, myenteric plexus
    A- adrenal medulla
    S- Schwann cells
    S- skull bones
P- pia and arachnoid matter, PNS
    AS- aorticopulmonary septum
    T- thyroid c cells
    E- endocardial cushions

No the rest of the thyroid is endoderm (1st and 2nd pharyngeal pouches) bc it starts in the oropharynx and descends in the thyroglossal duct… the parafollicular cells ARE NEURAL CREST (4th pouch)

Another idea maybe for people who are not familiar with Neasporen (NASPOREN) you can also reorganize it into the word Persona which might be more familiar, and so the mnemonic I came up with is "There is a childish PERSONA in the TUBE" thinking about a kid in a water slide, hope that helps
