How, if not by frequency, depth is changing the image?

Great question! Depth and frequency are two completely separate parameters. Depth is how deeply (in centimeters) the sound waves are penetrating into the body. The depth control allows the user to select a deeper depth or a shallower depth for the sound waves to travel into the body. Frequency is the number of sound wave cycles occurring per second. Adjusting the frequency control allows the user to select a higher frequency (more sound wave cycles occurring per second) or a lower frequency (less sound wave cycles occurring per second).

What about phased array frequency? Also how is frequency is determined as far as use on the body? Is there some kind of chart used for different parts of the body? So is wave length, frequency related? How does one become certified in the use of ultrasound ?
