Oh, come on - there many more than 26 Ghost Towns. I known specifically of one small pop county in Northern Iowa that has 3 Ghost towns. If there are 99 counties, surely there is possibly as many as twice that in Ghost towns?
I am still researching. There are close to 4,000 ghost towns in the US and unfortunately, there's not a lot of info out there about most of them. Which requires a lot of old-school researching.
@@UnitedStatesGhostTowns Good luck - you almost have to go to the local historical society in each county and they usually known all the towns their county once had even the ones that there is absolutely no sign left that a town existed there at one time.
In my home county alone (Webster County, IA) I can think of five or six ghost towns. You could almost have a full time career just researching Iowa ghost towns. And the way the countryside is emptying out, there's more every year.
