I just don't understand why we should carry 40,000 Bhatt (20.000 for each person) currency notes, while I am carrying a credit card with overseas transactions facilities and around INR 10,000 for any kind of emergency.

That's the rules sir, better to carry and follow the rules, to be honest nobody has checked mine so far but always advisable to follow rules
