- Parting From the Four Attachments - Part 1
If you are attached to the things of this life you are not a Dharma person.
'What does this mean 'attachment to this life'? Well what it means is attachment to one might say, the ephemeral, the temporary things, pleasures, securities, diversions, ambitions, and so on of this life, the things that we might chase now for security or for pleasure, for escapism for solidity, but actually cannot deliver any of those things we wish. It's material things, but it's also could be ambition. It could be even be practicing the Dharma in a way for egos. Security of ego status, all those things are the things of this life. So to really engage with the Dharma properly, it's not enough just to be nominally a Buddhist, its not enough even just to kind of observe the external disciplines or even the, internal disciplines of study and meditation. That can still be done with a worldly mind, so to speak, your mind is still, as it were, putting in one's self importance, self interest, and advance, self advance in the centre of one's attention of one's life. So we have to examine ourselves with great honesty with great kind of attentiveness, great mindfulness.'
