      You know I brain stormed over this tank for days trying to figure out why it does so well compared to the others and the only real difference is the size ...it could be other things but maybe stability is more important than I thought :)

    In the words of Borat, "It's nice!" Mark. i just put together a 20 gal tank with pelia moss (I think is same as subwasstang), flame moss, a lot of christmas moss, fissidens nobilis mat, marimo moss ball (which I flattened out to a mat), and probably another fissidens species mat. I also have a lot of duck weed and water lettuce which I imagine is preventing algae growth but the shrimp really seem to like it and eat it's roots. my substrate is fine black sand mixed with azoo plant substrate. I'm trying to breed CRS (but higher grade) but just realized that despite trading out all my larger fish and keeping the smaller ones (i.e. cardinal tetras, guppy endlers) they probably can still eat the babies despite adequate hiding spaces (i cover up rocks and cholla wood with the pelia moss and christmas moss but the shrimp, snails, or crawfish can root around in there)... I also previous bought about 10 blue dwarf crawfish and 2 CPO orange dwarf crawfish but I've been getting mixed reviews and recommendations about it (previously when the water was colder as it is winter here in california, I saw the crawfish eat the shrimp) but since warming the water up with a heater, they seem to be doing okay and can escape but just worried they will continue to chase them around frightening them. also, I'm worried my amano shrimp will frighten the shrimp as well since they're so active. I'm concerned as I often feed my crawfish earthworms and am afraid my feeding patterns will affect the water quality and thus kill the shrimp. I generally feed fluval color enhancing flakes, occassionally algae wafers, and sometimes blood worms). water parameters are GH 180, Kh 40, pH 7, nitrite 0, and nitrate 20. I plan to do 10% water changes every 2 weeks using tap water mixed with dechlorinator and some bacteria solution. what are your thoughts? Thanks, Vy. Again awesome job on your tanks and sorry for the long question.

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cray fish and CPOs will eat Shrimp but Ammano Shrimp dont for some reason,you seem to know what your doing so there isnt much else to add ,your water is fine but with Shrimp you want to keep the Nitrates as low as possible ,you could probably get away with 20% every two weeks if thats possible .

    Your subwasser moss looks amazing. Mine is just sitting there doing nothing for now. Its been 1 week since i bought it. Also, love your cherry tank, seemw to do good.
    Your top tank looks great too, matbe because you have so much biological filtration in it.

    Amazing tanks! What is the big bushy plants that look like a hedge plant in the tanks? They are beautiful! And you are growing a pitcher plant! Never saw one that big unless they were in a forest! I'm new to tanks and have been wanting to get some shrimp, you have a great variety to choose from, I'll keep that in mind! Thank you for letting us see your babies!

    hi Mark. nice video. love your tanks. have you checked your TDS? I've been having a bit of trouble with bee shrimp for a long time until I figured out that the TDS should be less than 150 and GH - 2-4 and KH -0-1, which makes water very acidic and soft. what are your water parameters in the big tank? very nice videos. keep it coming :)

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Olga, my aim for tds is around 140 ppm for caridina and I dont think it maters so much for snails and neocaridina :)

    Hey Mark, i would like to ask you how to create these huge balls of Subwater Tang.
    Another topic that would be quite interesting is, how you grow the offspring of your neocaridina, including waterchanging frequency, feeding, especially what kind and how much you feed , water parameters etc.I would very appreciate if you could make a video about these topics. Thank you.

    Hi Mark, how many shrimp would you say would fit in a 45 litre tank? So if the shrimp have children I know at what limit to upgrade to a bigger tank.

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Best think to do is get as big a tank as you can in the beginning because trying to move baby shrimp can be a pain in the butt ,what type of shrimp did you have ?

    • @MohammedC007
      @MohammedC007 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marks Shrimp Tanks I'm in the early stages so I'm contemplating the idea of acquiring shrimp, I was going to buy 5 different colours of the Neocaridina and put them in a 60 Litre tank. Should I go bigger? I'm max going to have around 7 shrimps in the beginning.

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      60 is fine for a standard tank ,its the size I use the most ,7 is ok to start with just dont over feed them :)

      Just simple at the moment, I want to see if I can breed. So Cherry shrimp for now and go from there. I've got a community tank already.
      I have some spare aquarium sand left over from my community tank, would that be ok for the substrate in the shrimp tank?
      I've just discovered you so I'm watching a few your vids :) great work

    nice video Mark, i think taiwan bee and pinto have not strong genetic they die very easily even if the water is perfect, i have the same problem with my tanks, with neocaridina, mischling, crs and royal blue tiger i dont have any problem.

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You know I have a feeling they are very susceptible to nitrate poisoning as you say probably because they are geneticley weak. Time for some over filtration :D

    I'm still waiting for my shrimp to grow out to even breed in the first place. My first set I got ahold of the females did not like the move and all died. It will be nice to have a tank or two in the future that comes least bit close to your big tank.

      Yeah it does take them a while to get started again ,Cherries from the smallest size to breeding is about 6 weeks ,Crystals are about 2 months .

    Nice video Mark. This is the first time I leave a comment here. I am following your channel for a little while now and learnt a lot from it. I am planning to set up a 30 liter shrimp tank, somewhere in 2017. I like the caridina shrimps species as well as the neocaridina species, but can you use regular tap water with ph-lowering substrate? And I wondered for a while what the size is of your big shrimp tank with Cr blacks and reds and the two shrimp tanks underneath that? And I like the brown substrate a lot. What kind of substrate is that? Sorry for all my questions. Greetings from The Netherlands :)

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello ,the substrate is Akadama in the top tank (200liter) and Amazonia in the Middle tank(170liter) ,you can use tap water with both .

    • @titiasplantedaquariums
      @titiasplantedaquariums 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a lot for the information. I never would have thought that your tanks would be that big. The 170liter one is a divided tank? Awesome to hear that you can use regular tap water with ph-lowering substrate. A ro-di/osmose water system is a to big financial investment for me. Maybe in the future. Keep up the good work :)

    I'd love to have some proper shrimp tanks, but where I live there are laws prohibiting the sale and owning of (neo)caradina. So I'm gonna try and breed some native shrimp (Paratya Australiensis), see how it goes. They can get some pretty awesome colouration and patterns on them for a "Ghost Shrimp".

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So is it the whole of Australia that has these prohibition laws ? Because I know there are forums of people in oz that keep all kinds of Shrimp .

    • @dominichull2862
      @dominichull2862 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, Tasmania. Imagine an island quarantined from a quarantined mainland, and you can getting close to the laws we have about imports. I can't even buy the shrimp I want from the mainland even though they are native to Tasmania :)

    • @MarksShrimpTanks

      Yes in my main tank with all the red and white shrimp its a substrate called akadama :)

    • @MrSwordstroker
      @MrSwordstroker 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah cool thanks for the reply...Akadama comes up as a bonsai soil, so what does it do the shrimp?

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It makes the water soft ,in my biggest tank I have akadama in it and its been my best tank so far ..I cant get it here in Norway anymore because they dont allow soils from asia into Norway which is weird because I can still get the other soils.

    Hello, Lelio again, just two questions, what is the name and use of the little flask in the right hand of the aquarium? Also, the name of the plants (looks like a ball) use in most of your aquariums? Regards

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marks Shrimp Tanks, hello, I can not find the soching oxy. in Amazon USA, do you have another name for that? Regards

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lelio Martinez Yeah unfortunately I know its not in Amozon Us ,I know of a guy in the Uk called Pro Shrimp that has them www.ebay.com/itm/Sochting-Mini-Oxydator-Increase-Oxygen-in-Aquariums-Fish-Shrimp-Breeding-/262256906101?hash=item3d0fbacf75:g:hY8AAOSwxH1UFqdh

    • @LelioMartinezColombia
      @LelioMartinezColombia 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marks Shrimp Tanks, I guess that the main idea for using this is to create more oxygen into the aquarium and stop the moss

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lelio Martinez Correct on giving more Oxygen ,I have seen some German Shrimp keepers use the Pond size Oxydators in there tanks and they have thousands of Shrimp in there.
