If you look for a Touran:
Take the 2.0 TDI (no common rail!) with DSG (it's not just a "semi automatic gearbox, it's 2 half gearboxes one for 1-3-5 and one for 2-4-6 gears so you have no power loss during acceleration) with 8V 140 PS.
The Engine is the most durable one (also used in taxis, making usually around 400k km), even tough it uses a little more fuel than the Common Rail ones but imo the durability makes up for it.

It has to be said the Touran is by far the best looking MPV on the market. The model I have in midnight blue looks simply superb (I got that colour because I saw it in the magazines and I knew it'd look good).
I don't understand why they knocked the 1.9 Diesel so much as it's quite efficient and performance wise I must admit I've beet Peugeot boy racers in it so it can't be so bad. But then again they are driving Peugeots :) I got the 1.9 as it was recommended in Top Gear.

Absolutely no idea unfortunately! Official MPG figures can be found here, however:

@@lazycarper7925you won't get more than 36mpg on average, ignore the dash mfd it's lying to you, calculate at the pump vs miles travelled and you will see the truth. Maybe 40mpg if your really frugal and do motorway miles at 65mph max. The 2.0tdi is about the same.
The 140ps 2.0TDI is a 16v unit (all the 2.0TDI's are 16v's whatever age/power) not 8v as mentioned.
The old 1.9TDI's are all 8v's whatever power rating.

Would you recommend this car ? Im thinking of maybe getting a Touran at some point. Is it expensive to get serviced ? Currently have 1997 MB 240 and have had TONS of problems with it, its actually in sale right now, really want to get rid of it. Sorry for my poor english :D
My parents have a 2008 base manual petrol touran. Its probably the most reliable car they have owned. After having it for 8 years and having no major problems i would recommend it as a family beater.
