I was a Homeless Veteran for 7 years. Things are looking up I've been in my apartment for almost a year and finally have joint custody of my 10 year old daughter.
Thank you Mr Williams sir for your sacrifice for I am very pleased to hear things are getting better for you but I am truly sorry nobody (our government/country) didn't help you and countless other's. It is an honor and a pleasure to be able to thank you, I just wished it was in person so I could salute you and shake your hand. I wanted to follow in my cousins footsteps Audie Murphy (Army) or my hero my granddaddy (Marine) but in spring of 76 I had open heart surgery at the age of 5 so that knocked me out of joining the military but I didn't know that till my teen years. I just had breakfast with a homeless vet this morning. Brought him warm clothing and blankets (his had holes in them).. I wish I could do more. One day I’ll be able to, in the mean time I’ll do as much as I can. One vet at a time. 💔😢

It sickens me how our government has dropped the ball on taking care of our vets. TWENTY TWO suicides a day! This should not be happening and it angers me 😡
Saddens me more so than angers. Every man or woman who has served or is serving is a brother or sister in arms. Losing that many family members is heartbreaking. It is a reason I try my damndest to interact with as many vets as I can at my workplace. If one positive encounter can keep one of my brothers or sisters alive for another day mission accomplished.

A family member was so close to being a statistic, but a non profit came in just in time to save her. It's a helpless feeling when you're throwing a life preserver to someone, but they're to tired to grab it. Thank you for doing what you can. Take care!
Yeah I did the math too. I was curious after seeing this video make the rounds on react channels again what the numbers were. Made me sad and angry. Especially when people say "We need to help vets before helping illegals/foreigners". Great talking point. No one does it so it's a talking point made to generate anger and USE Veterans to keep other people down. We could easily take care of all Veterans but to those at the top, there's no money in it. Time to stop punching down. Lets punch up!

We have had people in every branch, both men & women. And it does enfuriate me that money needed to help our Vets be isn't there. But, my family also lives in a border town. And it's as if the floodgates have opened. They have been burglerized. They have people banging on the doors day and night making demands! We need to know who is coming here. And what they have to offer. The merit based system is the best way to do this. I know my Stepfather immigrated here.

This is heartbreaking, do one thing when you see an old vet out and about: shake his hand and tell him thanks, and that you're glad he made it home. It will make their day!
Even shaking the hand of a vet who didn't see action goes a long way... Some days it's enough to make tears well up. Many of of us fee forgotten or ignored and a simple acknowledgement is enormous.
Theres a ton of young ones now, my Son's age a few of hus freinds have comitted suicide since they came home!and he lost lifelong freinds there as well!
Most of the Vets I've met that are struggling DO NOT want to be thanked or called a hero. Telling them you are glad they made it home makes them think of all their brothers who did not. Talk with them, if they'll talk. Buy them a meal, but many can't sit in a restaurant (noise and comotion). If they're living on the streets offer clothes or food and to sit/walk with them for a while. Don't be offended when they refuse or don't respond.
I have an interesting relationship with this song. I heard it from their album and listened to it for well over a year before ever watching the music video. It completely changed my perspective on the song, and it still gives me at least a tear, if not full on crying, every time near the end where he helps his old Sgt up.... Thank you everyone that has served honorably for your country.
Same here, especially that scene where "Jacoby" meets up with his Battle Brother who had saved his life and seeing that he had been living on the streets Or even the scene where the one veteran was getting cuffed and the officer cuffing him had noticed that they had the same tattoo, implying that they'd served in the same unit

Have to say I got lucky. Lived in my car for a year. Met a man, who I worked for free, he was disabled. This man found a home, and car, and property. 100% owned now. Took alot of money on my part. But never have found it without him. Thanks Charlie!! I'm a Veteran.

This hurts. Two tours in Afghanistan. I remember my first fourth of July home. The fireworks went off and that's all I remembered. It was dark out and as soon as I heard the pops, I was back in that desert telling everyone to get down. Shooting my pistol towards the sounds. I shot at my two cousins. It took my grandpa, my uncle and my great uncle who all served, to bring me back to reality. It caused my daughter's to be scared of me. It caused my family to be a lot more cautious around me. It hurt me. It hurt my wife because she didn't know how to help me. Thankfully that was 8 years ago, I was able to get the care I needed. And we've been good ever since. But for so many they never get the care they deserve. I appreciate you bringing attention to this.
This video always makes me cry. When i first saw it it changed me life. i now volunteer in my community helping our veterans. And when i see a man or woman in uniform i stop them and shake their hand and just thank them for everything they do.

I am a US Navy vet and this song always makes me cry!! Thank you for playing this song. I never saw any action, but being a medical tech ( Hospital Corpman) I saw those coming home with horrific injuries and PTS. ❤️🇺🇸😢
Thank you for reacting to this. As a daughter of a Vietnam veteran who is 100% disabled at the age of 19 serving our country, this band from my understanding does alot for our Veterans .. This means alot to veterans and their families
Bruce Springsteen too! When the Vietnam Veterans of America were about to go under, he held a benefit concert and donated all if the proceeds to the VVA. After that, many other musicians followed him. If it wasn't for the VVA, I don't think my dad would be here today. They got him the help he needed. As a way to pay it forward, he now leads a bible study and support group for veterans in his area because he no longer lives near a VVA office.

Brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it. Have several vets in my family who have retired from the army and navy. I try to notice the guys walking around with the veterans hats and try to thank them for their service. Especially the Vietnam vets. When they got home they were called baby killers and got spit on most of the time no matter what they went through. Thank vets every day, not just Veterans Day.
This song has so much meaning for my family. We have served this country since before it was a country. Right now we have 3 generations who have been in combat. My dad is a Vietnam veteran, i am a Desert Storm vetran and my son has done 5 tours in Afghanistan. For me to see a homeless veteran tears me up. For everyone who is able to adjust and be able to function in society 100 can't. We have to do better for our troops.
Maybe emotional because of the video or his reaction to it. Maybe because of the comments above yours or the replies I've posted to those comments. In any case thanks for the tears that are raining down onto my phone as I type this.

Thank you for doing this vid. I served in the USN Seabees for 15 years, OIF/OEF veteran. Just the first 30 seconds of this song makes me cry as I have had 2 brothers take their own lives in the last 3 years and 1 who lost his wife and daughter in a failed marriage. I was a Navy Corpsman and worked with our Sailors and Marines I joined during Desert Storm, I love how this band and others such as Toby Keith, Coffey Anderson 3 Doors Down bring recognition to the Veterans.
One of the best songs out there that I feel adequately explains at least my mental state being a veteran an why after serving I became a Pacifist and have not touched a weapon in 6 years. This video and song Illustrates what it's like for those of us that it feels like the country pretends don't exist. When people lock their doors as you walk by or cross to the other side of the street to avoid you (and that's on good days) because you're a homeless vet (which I've been) it makes the whole thing where people say that they appreciate our veterans seem like empty hollow platitudes. If people really cared about our veterans and appreciated us then videos like this wouldn't be necessary.

My husband's friend has done the coolest thing that I believe we could do nation wide. He bought a house for $1.00 under a Urban renewal project. And had friends donate their time and skills to fix it up. It took a while but he turned it into a homeless shelter for Vets!!! It could really catch on if people took just a few hours a week and donated their help.
Too many think only money helps, and that’s just not true. One of my good buddies drives disabled vets that need it to their Dr. appts. Just something like that helps more than one would think.

No words can describe what these Veterans have you experienced through their eyes, it's one thing to hear about it, but it's a completely different world to experience it. I remember all the stories that my grandfather told me that he experienced during the Korean War as an Army Ranger. Despite the stories he has told me, all I can do is Imagine.

Excellent work brother! I am in the military and this gives me a range of emotions from anger to sadness. Reacclimating is tough especially for some that have experienced some rough stuff but we've come a long way in helping those retiring/discharged to acclimate a bit better.

Also one of the best concerts I've been to. I know that I am commenting on this for the first time many years after this reaction, but you didnt realize it was going to be this... I listened to this song for a coupler of years BEFORE I watched the video, I love this song and as an Army vet I bawled this first time I saw the video, when the gentleman in the suit says "You know me, you saved my life brother!" and then he says it's ok and crys while he wipes that mans tears away and helps him up makes me lose it EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!
When I got out of the Navy my schools and training meant nothing to employers when I was looking for a job. A lot of businesses claim to be veteran friendly but unless you know someone who’s been hired by one of these companies don’t take their claim seriously.
Not sure what year you got out, if it was recent or not, but it wasn't always like that. I am 50 years old and where I work those that are around my age are mostly Navy or Marines. Today everyone but one guy that is 35 and younger have never served. I have no idea why it changed but one thing I can say for certain is the quality of employee we hire has free fallen. If I had to guess is the kid with a 2 year degree is cheaper than a vet with experience. It is so sad to see.
The only ones who (claim) to give a shit (they actually don't) are minimum wage paying retailers. They hire veterans to patronize and pander to their customers.
This MV is still one of the few things that will bring me to tears every time. As a Veteran who's hit hard times myself, although not quite as bad as many in this video, I definitely get feels from it. Life after getting out of the military is not always kind...
Some of my fellow veterans won't go the the V.A., for help, or anywhere else...I was at the V.A., yesterday, for my annual check up, and the staff questioned me specifically about mental health issues, and if my needs were being met. Things are changing, but these homeless, and suicides, are unacceptable. God bless, my brothers, in arms.

I'm so happy people are now appreciating our vets. I remember when my father came back from Vietnam, people were calling him a baby killer and being spit at. I know he had to have had PTSD. But it wasn't known back then. He died less then a year after he came home.

At my age... I remember soldiers coming home from Vietnam (my dad was one) ... And they were either honored or spit on... Depending on who was remembering them. So very sad. Our troops are our protectors. Being a hospice nurse, I've cared for many vets... I can tell you... Even in their 80s and 90s...they remember the pain of war and what they had to do. My dad said this, "I'm a peaceful man and had to kill people I didn't even know, just to protect others that didn't give a damn about their freedom"... That will always stick with me. Thank you for doing this. 💕 And I also want to say to whoever this applies to... DO NOT GIVE YOUR CHILDREN THE SEEDS OF CONTEMPT FOR SOMETHING YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND. Good day, I need to say, I'm a 60 year old man and EVERYTIME I watch this video, it brings actual years to my eyes. The way the Government has FAILED OUR HEROS is absolutely DISGUSTING.
I watched two reaction videos for this song and a few other times of just the video. It gets me crying every time, especially at the end. You can both sides for all the vets and how they affect him. This makes me so angry about how we are treating our vets. I have family and friends who are vets. They need our love. We need to keep spreading the message until there is real change with the system that keeps sending them out to battle.
Being a descendant of various military personnel, this hits me everything I hear it. I wasn’t able to serve myself however I joined my high school ROTC program so I could get a better view of what my father, uncles and grandfather went through. I still thank any person from the military and their family for their service and sacrifice. If you see a veteran, please take a moment and thank them. If you see a homeless person, get them a sandwich, a cup of coffee/soda/bottle of water. Give them a ride to a shelter or other facility that can help.

I retired in 2015, the hardest part is finding your place in this (to a Vet) routine, mundane civilian life. We go from absolute adrenaline roller coaster rush to almost what seems like STOP! The only people I have found that help the most are other Vets because they've been there before and understand. We get so structured and used to a life style that everything else doesn't make sense. I personally have a hard time with wrapping my head around how people think, no respect for authority, need everything to be validated and justified. Like everyone owes them something. Jamal, it would be like taking you out of south Central and throwing you in some po' dunk town in the middle of nowhere with absolutely nothing going on but BINGO night. I've had talks with a close friend that I went on my last deployment with and asked him if he had missed the military and of course the answer was YES. Sometime I find myself asking "is this life"? Is this what I've been looking foreword to all these years, well it's kind of blah.

This is heartbreaking, do one thing when you see an old vet out and about: shake his hand and tell him thanks, and that you're glad he made it home. It will make their day!
Even shaking the hand of a vet who didn't see action goes a long way... Some days it's enough to make tears well up. Many of of us fee forgotten or ignored and a simple acknowledgement is enormous.
I do this every time I meet a person who is a veteran or currently enlisted and in active duty
Theres a ton of young ones now, my Son's age a few of hus freinds have comitted suicide since they came home!and he lost lifelong freinds there as well!
Most of the Vets I've met that are struggling DO NOT want to be thanked or called a hero. Telling them you are glad they made it home makes them think of all their brothers who did not. Talk with them, if they'll talk. Buy them a meal, but many can't sit in a restaurant (noise and comotion). If they're living on the streets offer clothes or food and to sit/walk with them for a while. Don't be offended when they refuse or don't respond.

I have an interesting relationship with this song. I heard it from their album and listened to it for well over a year before ever watching the music video. It completely changed my perspective on the song, and it still gives me at least a tear, if not full on crying, every time near the end where he helps his old Sgt up....

Have to say I got lucky. Lived in my car for a year. Met a man, who I worked for free, he was disabled. This man found a home, and car, and property. 100% owned now. Took alot of money on my part. But never have found it without him. Thanks Charlie!! I'm a Veteran.

This hurts. Two tours in Afghanistan. I remember my first fourth of July home. The fireworks went off and that's all I remembered. It was dark out and as soon as I heard the pops, I was back in that desert telling everyone to get down. Shooting my pistol towards the sounds. I shot at my two cousins. It took my grandpa, my uncle and my great uncle who all served, to bring me back to reality. It caused my daughter's to be scared of me. It caused my family to be a lot more cautious around me. It hurt me. It hurt my wife because she didn't know how to help me. Thankfully that was 8 years ago, I was able to get the care I needed. And we've been good ever since. But for so many they never get the care they deserve. I appreciate you bringing attention to this.

This video always makes me cry. When i first saw it it changed me life. i now volunteer in my community helping our veterans. And when i see a man or woman in uniform i stop them and shake their hand and just thank them for everything they do.

Bruce Springsteen too! When the Vietnam Veterans of America were about to go under, he held a benefit concert and donated all if the proceeds to the VVA. After that, many other musicians followed him. If it wasn't for the VVA, I don't think my dad would be here today. They got him the help he needed. As a way to pay it forward, he now leads a bible study and support group for veterans in his area because he no longer lives near a VVA office.

Brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it. Have several vets in my family who have retired from the army and navy. I try to notice the guys walking around with the veterans hats and try to thank them for their service. Especially the Vietnam vets. When they got home they were called baby killers and got spit on most of the time no matter what they went through. Thank vets every day, not just Veterans Day.
This song has so much meaning for my family. We have served this country since before it was a country. Right now we have 3 generations who have been in combat. My dad is a Vietnam veteran, i am a Desert Storm vetran and my son has done 5 tours in Afghanistan. For me to see a homeless veteran tears me up. For everyone who is able to adjust and be able to function in society 100 can't. We have to do better for our troops.

Just the first 30 seconds of this song makes me cry as I have had 2 brothers take their own lives in the last 3 years and 1 who lost his wife and daughter in a failed marriage. I was a Navy Corpsman and worked with our Sailors and Marines I joined during Desert Storm, I love how this band and others such as Toby Keith, Coffey Anderson 3 Doors Down bring recognition to the Veterans.

One of the best songs out there that I feel adequately explains at least my mental state being a veteran an why after serving I became a Pacifist and have not touched a weapon in 6 years. This video and song Illustrates what it's like for those of us that it feels like the country pretends don't exist. When people lock their doors as you walk by or cross to the other side of the street to avoid you (and that's on good days) because you're a homeless vet (which I've been) it makes the whole thing where people say that they appreciate our veterans seem like empty hollow platitudes. If people really cared about our veterans and appreciated us then videos like this wouldn't be necessary.

I served in the active US Army for 26 years, 1987-2013. I am a100%, disabled vet. Good song and good reaction to this video.
My husband's friend has done the coolest thing that I believe we could do nation wide. He bought a house for $1.00 under a Urban renewal project. And had friends donate their time and skills to fix it up. It took a while but he turned it into a homeless shelter for Vets!!! It could really catch on if people took just a few hours a week and donated their help.
Too many think only money helps, and that’s just not true.

No words can describe what these Veterans have you experienced through their eyes, it's one thing to hear about it, but it's a completely different world to experience it. I remember all the stories that my grandfather told me that he experienced during the Korean War as an Army Ranger. Despite the stories he has told me, all I can do is Imagine.

Excellent work brother! I am in the military and this gives me a range of emotions from anger to sadness. Reacclimating is tough especially for some that have experienced some rough stuff but we've come a long way in helping those retiring/discharged to acclimate a bit better.

I know that I am commenting on this for the first time many years after this reaction, but you didnt realize it was going to be this... I listened to this song for a coupler of years BEFORE I watched the video, I love this song and as an Army vet I bawled this first time I saw the video, when the gentleman in the suit says "You know me, you saved my life brother!" and then he says it's ok and crys while he wipes that mans tears away and helps him up makes me lose it EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!
When I got out of the Navy my schools and training meant nothing to employers when I was looking for a job. A lot of businesses claim to be veteran friendly but unless you know someone who’s been hired by one of these companies don’t take their claim seriously.
Not sure what year you got out, if it was recent or not, but it wasn't always like that. I am 50 years old and where I work those that are around my age are mostly Navy or Marines. Today everyone but one guy that is 35 and younger have never served. I have no idea why it changed but one thing I can say for certain is the quality of employee we hire has free fallen. If I had to guess is the kid with a 2 year degree is cheaper than a vet with experience. It is so sad to see.
The only ones who (claim) to give a shit (they actually don't) are minimum wage paying retailers. They hire veterans to patronize and pander to their customers.
This MV is still one of the few things that will bring me to tears every time. As a Veteran who's hit hard times myself, although not quite as bad as many in this video, I definitely get feels from it. Life after getting out of the military is not always kind...
Some of my fellow veterans won't go the the V.A., for help, or anywhere else...I was at the V.A., yesterday, for my annual check up, and the staff questioned me specifically about mental health issues, and if my needs were being met. Things are changing, but these homeless, and suicides, are unacceptable. God bless, my brothers, in arms.

I'm so happy people are now appreciating our vets. I remember when my father came back from Vietnam, people were calling him a baby killer and being spit at. I know he had to have had PTSD. But it wasn't known back then. He died less then a year after he came home.

At my age... I remember soldiers coming home from Vietnam (my dad was one) ... And they were either honored or spit on... Depending on who was remembering them. So very sad. Our troops are our protectors. Being a hospice nurse, I've cared for many vets... I can tell you... Even in their 80s and 90s...they remember the pain of war and what they had to do. My dad said this, "I'm a peaceful man and had to kill people I didn't even know, just to protect others that didn't give a damn about their freedom"... That will always stick with me. Thank you for doing this. 💕

Good day, I need to say, I'm a 60 year old man and EVERYTIME I watch this video, it brings actual years to my eyes. The way the Government has FAILED OUR HEROS is absolutely DISGUSTING.
I watched two reaction videos for this song and a few other times of just the video. It gets me crying every time, especially at the end. You can both sides for all the vets and how they affect him. This makes me so angry about how we are treating our vets. I have family and friends who are vets. They need our love. We need to keep spreading the message until there is real change with the system that keeps sending them out to battle.

Being a descendant of various military personnel, this hits me everything I hear it. I wasn’t able to serve myself however I joined my high school ROTC program so I could get a better view of what my father, uncles and grandfather went through. I still thank any person from the military and their family for their service and sacrifice. If you see a veteran, please take a moment and thank them. If you see a homeless person, get them a sandwich, a cup of coffee/soda/bottle of water. Give them a ride to a shelter or other facility that can help.

I retired in 2015, the hardest part is finding your place in this (to a Vet) routine, mundane civilian life. We go from absolute adrenaline roller coaster rush to almost what seems like STOP! The only people I have found that help the most are other Vets because they've been there before and understand. We get so structured and used to a life style that everything else doesn't make sense. I personally have a hard time with wrapping my head around how people think, no respect for authority, need everything to be validated and justified. Like everyone owes them something. Jamal, it would be like taking you out of south Central and throwing you in some po' dunk town in the middle of nowhere with absolutely nothing going on but BINGO night. I've had talks with a close friend that I went on my last deployment with and asked him if he had missed the military and of course the answer was YES. Sometime I find myself asking "is this life"? Is this what I've been looking foreword to all these years, well it's kind of blah.
