Hi. Sorry this reply is so late in coming, but here's your answer: By default, the F9 key will start and pause screen recording. From the recorder (not from the video editor), go to the Tools menu and click Preferences or Options, then find the Shortcuts tab to change the defaults.

I use to cut a lot of silence momments of videos, or trash, and I just found S shortcut to help being faster at splitting, but not on closing gaps by draging the frame after the gap to the end of the frame before the gap. Did I explain clairly? Could someone help? I really don't believe there is no way. ;_; I have the 2013 edition, version 8.1.2...
The best option is to select the amount of time you want to remove (using the green and red handles on either side of the playhead) and press Ctrl X to cut the clip. That will remove the clip AND remove the dead air that would normally be there from a split and trim.
3:19 i dislike the fact that you can not use arrow keys and can not change the shortcuts to move frames... considering that the arrow keys dont do anything in any case

The , and . keys have the < and > on them, that’s how you know which direction the playehead goes. Great video!

The arrows do let you move items on the canvas, but I get your point about not being able to change the shortcut to something that would work for you.
