This pair of Donegal jigs was taught at the 2019 Minnesota Irish Music Weekend (MIM) by Glasgow-born fiddler Clare Friel. Clare, along with her two sisters Anna and Sheila (also visiting artists at MIM) spent time discussing, performing and demonstrating to students about the strong musical connections between Glasgow (Scotland) and Donegal (Ireland) during their four days here. There is also a great recording of the first tune on CIM Instructor Danny Diamond and Conor Caldwell’s CD: North.
The second tune is often associated with the great fiddler Johnny Doherty of Donegal. Irish supergroup Altan, which features local CIM instructor Dáithí Sproule, has recorded a great version of it on their album: The Poison Glen.
