  • I've finished music theory, so now I'm experimenting with chord progressions. I watched this video on the Royal Road Chord Progression, and I wanted to try it out. This piece is not that good and lacks some of my prior creativity, but it was a good learning experience and I had fun making it.
    Japanese music is something I listen to a lot (from video games and anime), so it is very possible I copied something unintentionally. I know the great fairy fountain sounds a bit familiar to some parts.
    Also hi teddy. I doubt you're reading this but I'll see you in the comments.

    TL;DR
    Thank you guys so much plus some unnecessarily detailed ramblings. Also sorry to the people who got recommended this without wanting to see it.
    Thank you all so much for the comments and support! I would have never expected to receive this much input and assistance with a piece. It has been incredibly overwhelming seeing the view count of this video go up, and with all of your kind words and suggestions, I feel motivated to get better.
    I know my work is not great or particularly brilliant, but you guys have made me set a new standard for myself. All my previous compositions were sort of blurted out without much thought (this one included). There was a study that involved photographers where one group was to take many mediocre pictures and another was to take one brilliant picture. The result was that the pictures near the end of the first group (many pictures) were better than the one picture of the second group, which is why I have been keen on producing more works. But still, I was really just content with mediocrity, making the excuse of learning. No doubt I was learning, but my standard was just too low. I was producing music with no meaning. I still probably will do that in the future, but it must be with higher quality. I will hold a higher standard. That said, I don’t think I will become drastically better within the coming months, but I’ll try my best.
    In terms of your guys’ support and subscriptions, I am overwhelmed. It may not seem like much, but getting 1k views and numerous comments by people who aren’t my friends is just mind-boggling to me, and I am so grateful that people have taken time out of their day to give some tips for my benefit as a composer. I’ve considered unlisting this video because it was so overwhelming getting this many views, but I’ve decided against that. Now, with your guys’ subscriptions, feel free to unsubscribe at any time. I know because my number is low, it will make a difference, but if it’s something you truly do not wish to watch, then don’t feel pressured to stay subbed (I’m saying this because I would feel pressured to support someone with a sub as encouragement, but my goal as a youtuber is really just to improve and not grow my channel. Of course your sub means something to me, but I just want to put this here because I would deliberately sub to someone with a goal like mine to support them [this is also not an attempt at reverse psychology btw]).
    With that all said, I appreciate you all. I know I might sound like a crazy person talking about 1k views, but I can’t even imagine that many people in a single room looking at something I made and critiquing it. Your inputs are greatly appreciated, and I hope you guys have a good day. Sorry for typing like a bot. I promise AI did not write this.
    Thank you

    I'm unable to comprehend musical theory but I love watching people grow. I'll follow your journey and, who knows, maybe one day I'll finally get the ick to pick an instrument

    I like the harmonies in the chords at the start

    Beginning sounded very Joe Hisaishi-esque, the rest is more something you'd hear in a video game in the 90s mixed with a touch of Bach :D

    I’m not much of a composer myself, so I can’t really provide any constructive criticism. With all that said, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to your composition! (I get to brag about being one of ur first subscribers hehe) Can’t wait to see what you have in store next ;D

    Yo dude thats really fun, but if tou do want my "critique", keep in mind this is coming from a fellow garbage composer, maybe try working with changing registers more often and distinct changes between parts, makes it sound less repetitive, i have found some decent success with raising ir lowering octave in melodies, or witholding certain registers like the bass until the impactful moments

    this is nice, for some reason some parts sounds like jazz crossover between the two

    I don't quite like the semiquavers in the motive starting in the 9th compass. I think is one of those moment when less would be more.
    Although I know you are trying to replicate an anime theme, a more simpler melody would work better (in my opinion).
    Great composition none the less. Keep going!

    Nice composition. The only problem for me is the violently mechanical and aggressive piano that the program spits out, otherwise it's a very enjoyable composition

    which software are you using to write sheet music?

    • @garbagecomposer8518
      @garbagecomposer8518  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This is MuseScore 4, which is free. Apparently there are also sound fonts that improve the quality of the midi as recommended by a previous comment. I'll try that out for my next composition. Regarding this software, it is somewhat annoying to use at times, but it gets the job done. My friend, who is studying composition, uses sibelius but that costs money. The sound from sibelius is better and he likes using it, but I cant give my opinion of it.

    There are many strange rhythms and stiff melodies, but the most poor one is the a-e-a ending

    • @garbagecomposer8518
      @garbagecomposer8518  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah I would say near the end is the most strange with the triplets. I do think melodic variety would be useful as well, as it is fairly repetitive. I personally don't think the ending is too poor actually, though the quick modulation was sort of unexpected. I think if I fleshed out the end more and then returned to the original key it would have been better as well as adding more distinct sections. Thanks for your comment! Your points made me think of better ways of handling certain sections
