For a journalist, the answer to your question is both. When I was in college, I remember one of my journalism teachers saying something similar. He said that as a journalist you’re expected to be an expert on everything. You have to immerse yourself in a variety of subjects matters. However, that’s only a part of it. It’s not enough to be a jack of all trades. You also have to be an expert at your craft. While you may feel that you learn a lot of different subjects, you have attained mastery over journalism. You don’t know enough about every subject you cover to be an expert on it, but you’re a subject matter expert when it comes to journalism. That expertise is what allows you to come up with story ideas, find good sources, and navigate the chaos of getting it finished and on air.
I totally understand your thoughts of walking down the aisle making you feel sick to your stomach, I was the same way! I love attending big weddings but always knew I wasn't going to be the bride at one! My husband and I had 14 wedding guests and it was the perfect size for us - had such a magical, intimate feel.
Seriously. I wanted to say, "Turn around! Nothing to see here!!"

Your analogy about doctors is so spot on! I am a nurse practitioner working in primary care and we really do know a little about a lot. I’m so grateful for specialists we can send the more complex patients. Sometimes I do wish I could learn a specialty!

You have to try the Nestle Toll House cocoa powder. It is soooo much better than Hershey’s. I used to use Hershey’s for my brownies until I tried the Toll House. I’ve never looked back.
Also, if you add too much water. Add just a little bit more oatmeal (a tablespoon or so) and it’ll thicken up.
I feel ya on the not wanting a big wedding! I didnt either...but totally go HAM on the dress girl whether its 5 people or 500! You won't be sorry!

I got married two years ago and felt the exact same way you do. The big day came and it was the BEST day of my life! I loved my dress, it was the “Taylor”/ballgown style with lots of sparkles and I loved it! I hope you get to experience that soon ☺️

This is something I think about often. At work I know a little bit about everything, I’m the person everyone seems to come to when they have questions (for context, I work in the office at one of our Blue Diamond Growers plants). I’m a maintenance coordinator but I’ve worked in every department over the last 5 years because when someone leaves I seem to be the one that helps out and takes on more stuff on top of what I normally do. But because I’ve worked in every department and haven’t been able to solely focus on maintenance I really really wish I was an expert on at least one thing. You’d think since I’ve been in maintenance for 5 years that I would be an expert on something maintenance related but nope! I feel like my kindness to help and be a team player has ripped away any chance of being an expert in anything lol I’m finally at a place where I’m able to start handing off things that are not maintenance related so hopefully I’m on the road to being an expert on something! 🤞🏼
I definitely like knowing a bit about multiple topics. This is probably why when I started a blog, I couldn't stick to one niche topic. Also I did not cry when I picked out my wedding dress, but it was the third one I tried on and I think I was blushing a bit, just with excitement. I also did a destination wedding on the beach with 10 friends and family and even walking down the sand was a little awkward to them so I'm glad I didn't do a huge wedding. We had a tent party at our house a few months after to get people together and honestly it was fun having it that way to talk to everyone.

I would rather know a little about everything. I did not cry picking out my wedding dress. I had a small ceremony and a big reception, some people did not like that they were only invited to the reception. I hope you have a great week!
I reluctantly had an actual wedding (I tried to just go to the courthouse but my then fiancé nixed that) and a simple wedding dress. I compromised and had a bouquet, dress, and wedding but in return I wrote the whole ceremony for the officiant and capped the timeframe at 10 min (we finished in 8 min), did the wedding at 11:30 am with brunch afterwards, and literally only had 6 people in attendance (only immediate family). I can remember everything about that day and every interaction I had, whereas most people with giant weddings can’t say that.
I am the same way when it comes to weddings. Thinking about walking down the isle makes me SO UNCOMFORTABLE!!! Our wedding got cancelled in March because of the pandemic and it was a blessing in disguise!!

You are right about the medical field. Spot on....I am a registered nurse and work for a family practice. And yes we know a little (in depth) about many things. I have also worked for specialist and they know A LOT about their speciality. I feel I gained soooo much information after working for a cardiologist and a urologist and then going into family practice......so I guess I would say both....I have enjoyed working for the specialist and learning everything about that specialty and I have also enjoyed family practice and learning about sooo many things. Can I say both???

When my friend got married she requested everyone to wear white and she walked down the aisle in this gorgeous, jet-black gown. It was in innnnncredible!

My husband and I got married in 2020. We both live abroad, I'm from Indiana and he's from Greece. We live in the Netherlands (also where we met). We had a tiny wedding with 6 people in the local municipal building in a special room they use for small weddings. It was a short ceremony. I wore a dress i found at a regular store. I've already worn the dress to the grocery store multiple times and will continue wearing it just for the heck of it for years. I love how we got married, not expensive, no stress. We didn't even know exactly what would happen during the ceremony 🤣. It was fun to show up and go with the flow. Tbh it felt like a school field trip! 💖

I totally agree about the big wedding situation. I did this for mine 16 years ago and didn’t know half of the people there. It was ridiculous and I caused some of it by getting carried away as a bride. I remember thinking ‘who the fff are you?’ My hubby wants to renew our vows this year as our house was robbed and all of my wedding jewellery was stolen. It was very upsetting. I have already told him that I just want it to be me, him and our dog, followed by a Burger King or McDonalds lol! He said ‘yesssss’ 🤣🤣 All I want now is to say those vows to him and him alone. Everyone to their own ideas though. Your wedding should be whatever feels right for you. Xx
