Love that you took the washing machine.
My grandmother traded hers in on a new washer and dryer, about 1956. The Maytag dealer put her washer on display with a sign stating "Traded in on a new one after 50 years of service". She always claimed the original still washed great but she wanted a dryer. When they delivered the dryer they asked if she would like to trade for a free washer, and my grandfather said "if you guarante another 50 years of use" and they agreed. After they both passed my Aunt took them and got another 12 years of uninterrupted use.
We are still using the Maytag washer and dryer we bought when we got our first house, 43 years ago. They have only needed a few minor, simple repairs.

We used those ringer washers well into the 80's on tugboats. Some had DC motors which was handy if you worked on a DC boat. I remember buying a new one at an appliance store in Perth Amboy New Jersey in 82 or 83. It was their last one.

Ah Paul! Looked up “sold” prices on that Maytag. OMG!! $250. to $495. If you can wait for the right person wanting one you can make a pretty penny. Do you have a Maytag/appliance shop in your area or even a laundry-mat? May want it simply as a conversation piece in their store window. It would make up for loss of income from bikes, grills and lawnmowers you will not have this winter. Go for it! SCORE!!

You don't know how much anxiety I was having while you were trying to decide whether or not to take the washer. That thing is AWESOME! You should Google how to contact set mangers for TV and movie productions. That's something they're always looking for, to use in shows of that time period. There are some pickers who make ALIT of money just looking for items for them! Or...you could ck eBay prices and sell it on Facebook marketplace or an antique store.

My Nan was still using a similar machine to the Maytag back in the 80's. I was 5 years and older and used to love helping her wash.

Oh my gosh, I can’t even believe someone left that washer out for the trash!!! I’m so glad you saved it, wish I lived near ya so I could buy it. Of course if I did live near ya, we’d sit down and talk about the Lord over some tea or coffee. Haha!

Hey Paul each time I see the Robitussin cough medicine commercial it reminds me of you. A woman is coughing up a lung by her kitchen window and the bear comes up to her window and tells her to take robitussin but then he asks her “do you mind if I go through your trash”. Just like you often do. Too funny.

I like to watch a man work I'm 77 retired but to make ends meet I work part time at the auction driveing and delivering GSA cars good part time job and easy work but I reaiiy end joy your program have a blessed day
I got my hands caught in those ringers many times helping my mom wash clothes. Also, those lids were used for griddles while camping as a kid. Still camp ourselves but no griddle use anymore. Although, I believe I still have a lid in very old camping stuff.
When you get your next ladder rack, I would like to suggest that you also put some steel j - hooks every two feet on the left and right side of the top rail. That way you have a place for the garage door opener and bed frames, oh, and bicycles.

Great video Paul. It had everything, a fantastic find in that Maytag, a train, and the ubiquitous bed rails. I've been scrapping for about 12 years now and I wonder if I've taken in a ton of bed rails yet; it has to be close.

Mum had a single tub Hoover in mid 40's. Great fun for us kids. That Maytag to good to pass up.
Paul looked up that washer on EBay and there are several listed anywhere from $300 to &1500. Keep it to sell.

That wringer washer is about as old school as it gets. If nothing else, people put them in the yard and put plants in them.
Great weather, great scrapping. what more could you ask for.. Hopefully you will find a good buyer for that old Washer.. the old metal tub would be useful with it for rinsing. That's what most people used with them at least. Looks like that mountain of scrap is growing again..Good luck...

Growing up both of my Grandmas & my Mother used Maytags almost exactly like that...
I would buy that washer in a NY heartbeat!!! I didn't see a cord, though. I'm only six hours away by car! Be still my heart.

Paul a great item that'll keep you cool and will NOT blow any fuses nor draw a lot of electricity are those things that they advertise on TV: Artic Air. I live in NYC and the summer heat is unbearable. I'm in a very old tenement building which has old wiring (1940's), all electircity in the apt supported by one 20 amp fuse. That little machine actually kept me cool and used very little electricity!

That Helium steel you scrapped at 18:14, those were outdoor fire log racks and they go for a pretty good penny. They arent cheap, 30 bucks for the smaller ones

That washing machine is awesome. I would clear coat it so that it won’t rust anymore and put it right in the middle of my large flowerbed.
I want to ask you for prayers Paul. My daughter, Kristin and her husband and two daughters have covid. I’m scared to death for them. Right now my daughter is the only one that is real sick. The others have the mild symptoms. I’ve been praying and praying.

My 8-month pregnant daughter, a nurse, and her husband, a police officer, both had it with very minor cold-like symptoms. They quarantined at home with no special medicine. She took Tylenol for a headache. Her worst symptom was loss of taste and smell; so not bad at all.
The washer is cool. I figured you take it back to the shop and if you can't sell it or donate it to a museum, you can still scrap it. The helium steel was wood racks.

That is the kind of washing machine my mom used when I was a kid 😅 you had to be very careful not to get caught up in the wringer.
You are right James,just what happened to me.....REMEMBER water could and can be recycled...as a youngster wash day coincided with trash collection day....Front steps and pavements were cleaned with the discarded water 💧😀👏, I am 82 now so you use your imagination as to my age when the ringer was in vogue....Paul, thanks for the memory.
That would be a nice ice bucket for your soda,, beers, etc in the backyard for during a party. I would clean that Maytag up real nice and keep it. But I'm sure there's someone who collects an antique like that - like people collect old vacuums - there's probably someone who has a museum for them. Or, maybe someone who collects things for movie sets. There's a place here in Chicago that has a warehouse full of movie set things such as that Maytag.
Paul those wash bucket has more then laundry to out inn after the old washing machine there great to set your side and soak the feet after a hard day of work..
My family when I was a small child had one of those washing machines. They might be a collectors item.

An old Maytag like that is a great find. List it for $100 and it'll sell quickly.

Washer is worth $300 bucks as is any day of the week. Cleaned up and working. Them would be good for stacking fire wood in the u shaped thing's.
Handtool rescue actually did a restoration on one of those Maytag washing machines.

The cigarette lighter socket is fairly low amp. You need one to hook to your battery posts with clamps. It would carry the load.

I grew up using a wringer washer. Put the clothes (and hopefully not your hand) thru the wringer and into the galvanized tub. The while the clothes were on the line, got out the push mower.

Wrong. WD-40 is not a lubricant and certainly not motor oil. WD-40 will destroy the motor entirely.

What happened to the washer? We had one on our porch from 40's used it for the barn and trucking clothes. It wasn't that long ago my brother and I were talking about it, he told me in so many barns at the track(he's jockey) you will find one they are the best for doing horses wraps, blankets of course barn clothes they never break! Lol so funny most of them just have a simple hit and miss motor, less technology seems to out last the modern day "gadgets and computerized."
