I remember when Alan Beswick took a shot at the IBA with his controversial outburst at the regulator "Masterbation isn't a sin, it's the Independent Broadcasting Authority Tarah!"

Do you have the bit where he went to play a jingle in the middle of the phone-in, and the jingle that played announced his departure? He got quite flustered, announced for the first time that it was his final show and then suspended the phone-in. The jingle was a version of a Frank Sidebottom song, which went "Allan Beswick is most fantastic when he isn't on."

Sorry, I don't think I'd even tuned in at that point. I wish I'd recorded the end though. He thanked the regulator (I think there were called the IBA then) for his ban as it made him famous. His final comment was something like "I used to think that masturbation was a sin, but now I know it is the IBA"

ace x Just discovered that I'm being quoted on a Facebook discussion to mark Beswick's return to hosting an evening phone-in. Just to be clear, I don't know for definite it was the IBA that he made reference to. I just remember it being a 3-letter acronym for some type of regulator, and I think it was the body who was in some way responsible for his ban.

That was on his last late night show. We scheduled an extra cart which he played thinking it was just an ad. He was laughing and shouted down the talkback, "Did you know about this"? Of course I did!!!. He was leaving to go to BBC Radio Lancashire back then. He's a great guy.
