    The Engraved pocket watch looks as if it was stuck in a drawer and never used!
    Except for the damage to the dial, you would think it was a new watch!
    An added filter to your lens will prevent the expensive glass from being damaged.

    Absolutely stunning pocket watch, would it be possible to share some pictures of it?

    Very much enjoyed this one! Making a chronometer escape wheel and detent is no joke.
    Thanks for the shoutout!

    Hello stickers they look GREAT. Favorite part of the video was the watch and then that remarkable pocket watch engraving, though the whole video was well. Lance & Patrick.

    My first subscriber comment on your excellent channel! Watching this one again, I noticed the clockmaker name, Thomas Phippan, apparently of Poole (where I was born, assuming it's the same one, in Dorset). I can find nothing about him anywhere. Do you have any info? It's a lovely clock.

      Sometimes the only way to do the job properly is to make tools to do it with.

    I know this is terribly long after the posting, but the first thing I do when purchasing a new camera is to install a screw on UV filter over the lens just for protection

    On subject of engraving, any recommendation of a good hand engraver ? my guys retired.

    • @TommyJobson
      @TommyJobson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good hand engravers are extremely hard to find, and those who are out there are booked up forever!

    Tommy, thank you for these Workshop Wednesdays. They show what it's _really_ like in a workshop, unlike the (necessarily) heavily edited full project videos that have to cut out lots of the "real life in a workshop."

    Why not use milling or CNC for the jigs at least. Curious.

    • @TommyJobson
      @TommyJobson  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have any CNC machines, and the crossing jig is not something I could mill because of the shape.

      @@TommyJobson I see other folks experimenting with new tooling - even lasers. As well as metal 3d printers. You have any views here. Do you see watch making changing in general?

    • @TommyJobson
      @TommyJobson  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes definitely. The technology today is super exciting. I am very much open to the idea of using technology to compliment more traditional ways, for example 3d printing pantograph templates, work holding or jigs, but not at the cost of the skills of the craft itself. I think sometimes people are under the impression that with a CNC you can press a button and watch pops out, it doesn’t work like that. I’m happy with my one man manual machine set up and continuing to learn and refine my mastery of a traditional skill set.

    You cannot use Acetone on a lens. Try methyl alcohol the next time.

    This is where a nice NC filter would be nice to have, much cheaper than having to replace a lens 😃

    I guess that's where the term "wind it up" comes from.
