“Be Calm” Hwasa wrote this song for her uncle, Hwasa said ("My family was really poor, but my uncle helped me with my living expenses and everything while I lived in Seoul. My uncle wasn't married and treated me as if I were his daughter. He loved me so much to the point where he just looked at me from the moment he woke up to when he went to sleep. He's someone who gave me so much love."), She continued, "There was a time when I got into a minor car accident on the way to an event with my members. I don't know how, but he was the very first person to find out and called my dad saying, 'I think Hye Jin got into a car accident. Give her a call! My uncle thought that he might be bothering me [and didn't call me], but my dad told me that my uncle was worried the most and asked me to call him. I replied, 'Dad, I'm really okay. Don't worry. It was nothing big.", "Not long after that, my uncle suddenly passed away in a car accident," said Hwasa. "Suddenly losing someone who was valuable to me was really hard. I went through an emotionally difficult time for a while. This happened in September 2017. There's an unforgettable moment that happened. I still hope for my uncle to appear in my dreams although he hasn't yet. One day, I was crying in my room and it happened to be a really cloudy day. It was dark inside the house and I felt so frustrated because I wanted to talk with my uncle but couldn't." 💔
@@SylverReacts If you're interested, you can watch MAMAMOO's guesting on Zang Sang's show, he asked Hwasa about Be Calm and she explained it to him there.
All the solo songs in the 4S4C project were self-composed. Hwasa wrote the lyrics and co-wrote the music for Be Calm with her main creative collaborator, Park Woosang, and he directed the video. She was mourning the passing of her beloved uncle rather than fighting back at the haters. The last line is a quote from Seneca's Letters from a Stoic. I always wondered whether it was a reference to the suicide of Shinee's Jonghyun in Dec '17, which was an enormous shock that affected everyone deeply. You'll see Park Woosang's name a lot in MMM song credits. He was one of their main songwriter/producers at RBW but he left the company a couple years ago. I don't think it's a coincidence that Hwasa didn't release a solo album after PWS left RBW. Be Calm is the definition of musical comfort food. Her voice wraps you in a warm hug and tells you everything's going to be ok. There was no follow up song to Rude Boy but Mamamoo+ later did a song called GGBB (Good Girl Bad Boy) asking why good girls fall for bad boys. Can you guess the answer? 😏 Moonbyul kills it on Spring Fever but for me it's the vocal arrangement as a whole with all the different harmonies and the sequencing of vocal timbres, the dynamics and phrasing and rhythmic variety in their singing and melodic rapping. Nobody does it like Mamamoo. 😂 Yellow Flower was an enormous artistic leap for MMM. It's the beginning of their mature phase as artists.
As always thank you for the wealth of information about the girls, and oof I didn’t know about Jonghyun, I learned about Kpop relatively recently so I still haven’t checked out Shinee yet, but still hearing about that breaks my heart 💔
@@SylverReacts Jonghyun was an incredibly creative guy, as you'll find out when you getting around to checking out Shinee, one of the essential boy groups. There was something special and different about Jonghyun. If I had to compare him to someone I'd say he had a touch of Bowie in him.
My favourite song Be Calm. Such a beautiful bluesy number with Hwasa beautiful voice and meaningful lyrics. My favourite lyric is "my father says laugh once, two of your worries will disappear" Hwasa wrote the song. She dedicated that song for her late uncle who was her greatest supporter. The MV was on a shoe string budget and that rubic's cube kid is the director's son.
@@SylverReacts yup, there's a stark reality to the filming of the MV that enhances the rawness of the song. Each of my favourite groups have that killing track I love so much. Dreamcatcher's Rainy Day and G-Idle's Hwaa. Even Blackpink's Stay is a killing track in my opinion.
You missed the “Star Wind Flower Sun” song from this album. It’s another fan song written by Solar. The intro “from winter to spring” is from the mv of “star wind flower sun”.
@@SylverReacts I was actually waiting for it after the intro then I thought maybe you intentionally skipped it to react as a last song since it's a fan song but the video ended with spring fever 😅 Will be waiting then for your reaction on friday.
Definitely their besides are way too good, spring fever, rainy season, better than I thought. I love those chill songs by them but I also love dark heavy bops like My star. I'm already anticipating your reaction to My Star from the white wind ep it's gonna hit hard
All of Mamamoo are great at highlighting other people’s talents. Many artists love collabs with them cause they know how to make the other person stand out. Watching Queendom and Second World, you will see how other artists fight to be on the same team with Mamamoo and avoid to be their rival with all their will. On the same team with Mamamoo pretty much guarantee you a win (and usually the Mamamoo members already had the stage, the song, the performance planned out in their mind and they will teach you even the micro facial expressions to achieve success)
Even Moonbyul didn’t sing much at the beggining of her career, she has always been solid at harmonizing and supporting her members (a skill that many even other groups main vocalists don’t have).
Ya, the solo song inside their album are written by themselves. Star Wind Flower Sun is written by Solar for the members and moomoo (another fans song) which will be sing in the concert as well with I Love Too ❤
Great reaction! Mamamoo really kills it live and not only do they have great vocals, their lyrics are also so meaningful, a whole package of a group! And I enjoy that you try to figure out the lyrics as well as listening to the song by itself. Just a quick correction at 24:24, although they're really easy to get confused, the captions are actually in Brazilian Portuguese, not Spanish! Keep up the great work dude, hope to see more from you!
Aaaaaa thank you for this mamamoo reaction series, I enjoyed all of the reactions. You made my day! Thank you. But I think you missed "Star Wind Flower Sun" if I'm not mistaken.
@@SylverReacts yeahh, I'll be waiting for that one 😁😊 star wind flower sun is a fan song that Solar dan moonbyul wrote, and it's composed by Solar herself. It's a song for all of the moomoos ❤️ I can't wait to see you reaction.
You missed a song on the album, Star wind flower sun, and it has an mv. It's symbolic for all of the members, Moon is the star, Wheein is the wind, Hwasa is the flower and Solar is the sun.
I specifically loved “be calm” song from yellow flower album and it is on my playlist, whenever I am sad I just play it. It really makes me feel good. I don’t know. 😅 anyways she’s my bias from the group though I loved them all. ❤😊
In 4s4c concert she sung be calm in her solo stage and damn trying not to cry as she begun the song or rather after she sung it, i love her music. You can feel every word she sings
Spring Fever was the first song after paint me and starry night in the concert.... at the end of your previous video, they intro this song and begin setting up.
Be Calm is written by Hwasa in memory of her uncle who suddenly passed away :( In Korean, it directly means it's getting clam, I'm starting to feel numb.
It’s hard to keep track especially with mamamoo having a wide discography ☺️.. anyway, will be looking forward to all of your videos.. thank you for giving us quality deep dives ☺️
When you said you have the live version of Rude Boy, I got nervous for a bit😅😅 concert version of this song is panic inducing - not as much as WDCE - but panic inducing still 😂

'Be Calm' has one of the coolest guitar rift in music.
💯 that plus her vocalization in the chorus is iconic
