  • PRIZREN, KOSOVO: Join me on a tour of Kosovo’s second largest city - Prizren, and find out if it’s worth visiting. I’ll show you around and you can make the decision!

Prizren is a lively and colourful city in the south of Kosovo and is already a popular place for domestic as well as international tourism. I’ll explore the key attractions including the Sinan Pasha Mosque , a stone bridge crossing the Bistrica, a spirited shopping and dining street as well as take you back to my accommodation at the hotel Dennis for a quick tour. I’ll leave the glorious Prizren Fortress for another vlog.
In the shadows of the Sharr Mountains Prizren is a gripping place to explore. Outside the city the mountains and forests hide hiking trails and numerous outdoor activities whilst inside there is a blend of Ottoman influenced architecture and an array of mosques and monasteries. It felt good to ditch the car for a day and spend some time walking around.
The atmosphere and energy on the shopping and eating street was electric and it was great to see the old Market Square complete with a horse and cart.
The stone bridge is close by as is the mostly destroyed Arasta Mosque where just the lonely stonework of the minaret survives. I had better luck with the Sinan Pasha Mosque (Xhamia e Sinan Pashes) which although was damaged by bombing has been repaired and reopened. I was able to go inside and enjoy the interior design and see the dome which has been painted with floral designs and verses from the Koran.
I enjoyed my trip to Prizren and consider it a worthwhile stop on my road trip around Kosovo. It’s all subjective though so let me know what you think of the city in the comments - is it worth visiting or are there better places to spend your time in Kosovo?

I would've never thought before I would get so addicted to watching your Kosovo adventures. I love it because it's different from the normal prim and proper tourist places, it's shabby in places but it has such a good vibe that I can't quite put it in words. I love the natural merging of the European and Eastern/Asian culture. I love it how friendly people are and how they always socialise in the evenings. (By the way, do they come out in the evening because it's not as hot as during a day?)

I really couldn't have put it better myself, Olga. I'm glad you're enjoying the series, it was a bit of an eye opener for me too. Before I visited I wondered if I would be able to fill a day in some of these places, within a few hours of arriving I was wishing I'd planned a bit more time in each location - I really enjoyed it all. Good point about the evening, there may be some truth to that!

Way to go doggo! Out of all the things to describe that car, in its current state, comfort would not be one of them. That is a powerful mini fridge. Can't believe the place comes with a pet bird. Great deal but better view! What a fun montage going into the afternoon! Beautiful mosque. Your night footage is top notch!

Thanks very much, glad you liked it! I reckon the fridge was actually a freezer in disguise! Thankfully the hotel didn't charge extra for the free wildlife!

The top of your fridge looks so much like my own electronic charging station when I go away and a fridge has sometimes been exactly where t's all sat. The 18 degrees on the AC and hearing the room was super hot said to me the unit was probably faulty... didn't realise you hadn't set it up correctly 🤣 The room was an absolute steal at that price. I think with the cost of living going up at the moment, people who are switched on will begin looking to destinations like Kosovo for a more affordable holiday!

    • @MattWhitingsEurope

Yes I think you are right about people visiting places like Kosovo more often now, there's so much to see, the people are so friendly and it's incredibly affordable. We've always got to be selective about our changing areas - the top of the fridge is just wasted space if we don't do anything with it!

Do you know how to go to prizren by bus from budapest, Hungary?

    • @MattWhitingsEurope
      @MattWhitingsEurope  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

I'm afraid I don't. You'd probably have to do it in stages, city to city. Once you make it to Pristina you can catch local buses down to Prizren.

I don’t like city due to constant annoying call to prayer and many of my friends agree

Interesting to hear all perspectives, when I was at the fortress I could hear and see them right across the city - certainly a distinctive sound!

Kosovo Albania Bosnia is a Muslim majority country in Europe,
And a large minority in the surrounding countries, even 7 provinces in Russia are Muslim majority, so the sound of calls to worship like that is common in Muslim majority countries in the world, respect and appreciate Muslim traditions
