Mr. Smith, what a joy to come across your channel and reaction to In The Arms of Jesus! My name is Alvin Fruga, and I am the writer of that song. I am also the one directing the choir in the video. Such a blessing to see and hear your reaction to Daryl Coley singing this song that God placed in my spirit many years ago. Thanks again for this pleasance surprise. Feel free to reach out anytime. Blessings!
The best compliment I could ever gotten when Donnie McClurkin said to me, "I can tell who your favorite gospel singer is," I said. "Who might that be, Donnie?" He replied "Daryl Coley, you sound just like him" Having studied classical voice. When I wanted to sing other genres of music it still sound classical. I starred listening to daryl and that when the freedom in the voice. Thanks Daryl Coley
I think Daryl Coleys’ vocals are unmatched across any genre of music. Just my humble opinion. He is my no.1 favorite vocalist of all time, next to Donny Hathaway, Bettye Ransom Nelson, James Moore, John P. Kee, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, and Luciano Pavoratti. He is a G.O.A.T!! I feel like he didn’t get the recognition he deserved while he was living. You should definitely have a listen to his rendition of ‘Even Me.’ His vocals on that one is insane!!!!
You and me are right there, Daryl, Coley, and Donny Hathaway. I love people, Bryson as well, met him, and he’s actually a wonderful guy, and loves the Lord.
I've been obsessed with Daryl Coley since I heard him on a Quincy Jones thing some years back. I've watched this performance at least 100 times. Glad to see other people also think he's the best. RIP Daryl, at rest in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ
Thanks for sharing, Darryl Coley was rare and his love for God poured out of everything in him when he praise God. We were blessed to have him skare that blessed gift!@
My God pastor Daryl Coley is absolutely the best gospel male singer that I have ever heard he is so powerful and anointed I crown darly Coley the master chief of male Gospel singer my favorite singer ever what a gift pure genius. RIP 🙏
He is my fav Gospel singer. Jesus Saves is one of my fav songs to listen to on my way to work. I hope my kids will remember these times we listen to gospel together
It's so nice to see someone react to Daryl's singing the same way that I do. Daryl was absolutely one of THE most phenomenal singers that God has ever gifted. The annointing is all in his voice. I love it!!!
There are a lot of male singers in the world who are great but there’s only ONE DARYL COLEY!! He’s my absolute favorite male singer of all time, and it’s not close!! 🕊️🔥🕊️🔥🕊️🔥🕊️🔥
Hey, Charlie. Your buddy Diego here from Texas. The gentleman who introduced Daryl Coley is actually my old pastor Bishop Carlton Pearson. I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and attended Higher Dimensions Church where Pearson pastored. He also hosted the annual Azusa conference there in Tulsa, which was named after the original Azusa Street Revival that took place in the early 20th century in Southern California. Check Wikipedia. Many live albums were produced during the conference years, and they featured names in gospel that you would know, including Karen Clark-Sheard, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Shirley Caesar, Daryl Coley, etc. Interesting sidebar: Bishop Carlton was a protege of the 20th century healing Evangelist Oral Roberts.
Just reading this brings back so many memories. I'm originally from Philadelphia, but my oldest cousin went to ORU and graduated back in '94 she showed us around Tulsa. It seemed things back then were going in a good Direction.
For serious vocalists, Daryl Coley was and is our ex-officio vocal instructor. His presentation of the voice and ministry is a masterclass in voice pedagogy period. Thanks again for sharing, Charlie!
Thank you for exegetically provision of this awesome so😢by Pastor Daryl allowing us to join in with you 😂your appreciation for what God is speaking to us and the world blessings to you
Pastor Daryl Coley was a different kinda animal I've never seen anything like it the texture of his voice is beyond amazing he was definitely gifted it blows my mind this man was truly anointed the richness in his voice he's can't be touched the best i have ever , ever heard unbelievable that's top notch the king of gospel music 🎵
I recently started watching your channel and it has tremendously blessed me. This Daryl Coley song I needed to hear because of certain challenges. I love the African singers Wow I play those songs over and over and feel the presence of the Lord. The man who introduced Daryl Coley was Carlton Pearson who died recently. He lost his church members and was removed from Clergy Leadership Organizations for teaching everybody is going to heaven, no matter what the sin is, no repentance necessary and no hell exist. Called the Gospel of Inclusion.
The Bayarea's Own (RIP) Daryl sang just as good as he doing on this recording when we were just kids and he was directing the choir. He was no joke!!! You better get that note(LOL) i CAN REMEBER SO VIVDLY of him singing in testimony service(leading the service) and going all up and down the musical vocal ladder and folks falling out and shouting all in the church....he would just demolish the service!!!!!! The Pastor would always call on him to sing. And Lawd if he got on that piano and played and sang it was a wrap!!!!Continue 2 Rest In Jesus Daryl you made the Bay_Area Proud.
That was Bishop Carlton Pearson...thank you for bringing up this memory & ministry that still heals today. Thank you for the worship that took place in my house this morning. 🙌🏽❤️🙏🏽🕊🙌🏽
Pastor Carlton Pearson is also a gospel singer and preacher who started a major televised production/revival in the 90s called Azusa Live. He would have the top gospel singers and preachers on. He also in the last 10 years is known for his epiphany of a non existence of hell. Darryl Coley voice is so anointed he music always uplifts me... He is the GOAT!
Hell does exist. Unfortunately for Pastor Pearson he spread a false doctrine. I pray that anyone that accepted this false doctrine come to accept the true word of God. God bless.
Bro, you know what's even crazier: because I know most all Daryl Coley's songs by hard, playing his vocals (riffs, rolls and runs) on the piano is SICK!!! I'm like, there's NO WAY he's doing this like playing keys on a piano... but yep, it's Daryl!!!! Rest in Peace my vocal mentor!!!
The man that introduced him was the late Bishop Carlton Pearson....the Host of Azuza Movement. He used to do many of these types of musicals and featured so many anointed and powerful gospel artists.
Daryl was known for belting out hymns acapella if u haven't already, do a review of his Even Me & Victory in Jesus. You really haven't heard him until u listen to him sing acapella he is a beast!
Charlie Smith, I am so glad that I found your channel. Daryl is my favorite male gospel voice as well. His voice transports right into the presence of the Almighty God! I love everything that he does with his voice. A dear friend of mine and I would sing his songs often...Love this so much!!!! Thank you kindly sir!!!
Hay sir I just stumbled upon your channel, I must say this is outstanding that you featured this Genre of music gospel music has great artists and there are some excellent songs that are archived and the artist are no longer with us but I was very very happy and joyed to see that you featured this type of music!👊🏽👏👍
Just in time for Christmas you may want to review Quincy Jones’s take on Handels Messiah…Daryl is going OFF towards the end of the song! Daryl is definitely THE vocal standard for male gospel singers!! Enjoy!
That's Rev Carlton Pearson! He made many AZUZA gospel records with great singers that of course include himself. He was scorned by the church for saying that he stopped believing in hell, after seeing the Rwanda devastation.
Anyone who listens and appreciates Daryl Coley is a friend of mine. So when I saw your reaction video, I subscribed to your channel! May I suggest an older live performance (s)? "Thy Will Be Done" and "You Are My Everything" with the late BJ Crosby. And the host minister in this video's name is Bishop Carlton Pierson. ❤Be blessed ❤
Wow, thanks for suggesting this. I'm glad it came across my path. Great memories going to the conference - - Bishop Carlton Pearson and Gina, Mabee Center, Higher Dimensions family, Azusa, ORU.
Thanks so much for sharing! I love your channel and appreciate that you react to all genres of music. Daryl Coley is incomparable in gospel music and his talent is just amazing. I've only ever heard your singing voice when you're showing an example of what the artist you're reacting to is doing, but it's obvious that you're a very good vocalist yourself.
The style of elongating "thannnnn innnnn the arms" at 5:51 was more common in the 80s. Some R&B singers like Luther Vandross but mostly Gospel. Now days it's all about the the runs and not so much holding notes.
Nah, if you want to be impressed watch 'He Lifted Me' from the same recording where he effortlessly reaches Karen Clark in range then proceeds to fall effortlessly & relentlessly. Lol. I'd love to hear a reaction to 'Victory In Jesus' or 'A Cappella Praise'
Charlie hey! It's Mike Carter from Clarksville Va. again. I sent you your 1st. Darryl Coley. Now I want you to check out Rev. JAMES MOORE with the Mississippi Mass Choir with his special guest Bryan Wilson. Yes..."THAT " Bryan Wilson. You'll see that Bryan's vocals were inspired by Rev. MOORE. He even gives Bryan a chance to show how extra extraordinary his range and vocal abilities are. They're doing the song "YAWEH". JUST TH-cam Rev. James Moore and Mississippi Mass Choir featuring Bryan Wilson. This is the Adult Mass Choir! You're gonna love it!
Yes James Moore is off the hooked simply incredible I rate him up there with Daryl Coley 2 of the best in gospel history right along with the Hawkins family 🙏
The name of that guy is named Carlton Pearson. Back in the 90s he had a conference name Azusa. He became a heretic at one point and was outcast. Did a movie about him you should check out.
This recording does not do him any justice...I heard him sing at a midnight musical at GMWA and he was phenomenal. If you weren't crying, your jaw was on the floor. And then his adlibs... (SMH!!!!) He just started preaching and he could tell a story. And it was incomparable. The performance where he tells the story of the Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.... all in poetry and all scripturally accurate. Check it out "He's Right on TIme".

I starred listening to daryl and that when the freedom in the voice. Thanks Daryl Coley
