I agree! The song was powerful even though I don’t understand Mandarin. What’s better, is that Mandarin isn’t her native language (she speaks 3 languages), but she studied for 2 weeks to learn the song. There were comments about her enunciation, and she ranked 6th that week(she forgot a line I think?). But for me her interpretation was most evident when you could see the Chinese audience singing along, and several people were crying 😢. If they hear her heart, then she succeeded. Awesome reaction. i think the reason why they (the people who titled the original video) said it's in Mandarin Chinese (which sounded like it's redundant because as you guys said, if it's Chinese then you don't expect it to be in English) is because Mandarin is not the only Chinese language/dialect spoken in China. i mean, there are hundreds of other Chinese dialects besides Mandarin and they were prob just emphasizing that. i'm not even Chinese nor do i speak any of their dialects; i just know this from our world history lessons in high school, lol.
