Wow! A 10 monastery. I believe I have only seen a video of a visit to ruins of a monastery so I have much catching up to do on your videos. Absolutely breathtaking. Now my goal is to add a History Hikers shirt to my collection. Thanks once again intrepid history explorers!
Thanks a lot for watching. We don't have a lot of abbey videos on here. Chances are we'll never have a better one than this either 😅. A t-shirt would be great!
Great episode. Three concentric rings of fortifications! Almost like a spell or an incantation cast by one of its founders. The video gives a sense of the interiority and contemplative nature of the place. The only other monastic complex on this scale from approximately the same period with which I'm familiar is the Abbaye Nôtre Dame de Fontevraud.
Great video, thank you for the views, superb architecture, detail of the sculptures and the most satisfying, more than three stones one above the other and even entire rooms. thanks again. Enjoy the summer!!!
This was indeed very very beautiful. The architecture and the detailing of all the relics. I mean it's pretty pristine. All of the rooms ooze grandeur and royalty you can see the wealth that once dawned these buildings. Thank you both so much for sharing and taking us around this beautiful Cistercian abbey!
I used to wonder how the church managed to recruit monks. I no longer wonder. These abbeys must have been incredible refuges from the brutality of life in those times. Thanks so much!
This is one of the most impressive monasteries i have seen. Again you have done a great video, you only get better with each video. I wonder how many monks were here at it's peak.
Excellent video, guys! That was definitely a beautiful abbey/monastery and must have been a very enjoyable visit. You guys do a great job with your walkthroughs and history info. Thanks for sharing! Wish we were closer to so much historic locations as you guys are. The best we can do is the limited American history. Next month we plan to visit the homes of two former U.S. presidents, Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe. Of course in many of our restored historic locations, they frown on or even block the use of cameras (especially video cameras) so we're not sure how much we'll be able to share, but we'll get whatever we can and post it on a future video.
It's not always allowed over here either and we don't always like filming in all places either. Oh well, it's not always about the TH-cam video, but about having a good time yourself 👍
@TheHistoryHikers very true! We enjoy our history vacations/destinations regardless of whether we're filming or not. We both love history - even our honeymoon was to historic Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia with a stop at Mount Vernon (home of George Washington) and we've taken our kids to historic locations throughout their growing up years. Plenty of fun and memories made without a camera!
Excellent, very beautiful!!!
Thank you! Cheers!

We're familiar with the abbey at Fontevraud, though we haven't visited yet. Hoping someday we will 😄

Thanks a lot 😅. We're enjoying summer now that is has finally arrived in Belgium (sort of, still a lot of rain). Hope the weather's nice for you too 👍
Beautiful! Thank you for showing this gorgeous place to us!

Thanks a lot for watching, PoP! ❤️

All the rules that were imposed on the monks like not being allowed to speak sound a bit annoying though 😅

According to Wiki over 300 monks lived here in its prime. Thanks a lot for your kind words!

does anyone actually say where this place is, exactly?
It's located in Catalonia, Spain. A quick Google search should give you the location 👍
