I had a connection like that with John’s spirit when I was meditating in the cave #9 where he used to meditate in the ashram in India! After meditating, I picked up my guitar, and saw the roof of the cave had a painting with a line from Yoko to John that said: “when you look up at the sky and see a cloud think of me.” I started a song with that opening line and suddenly it was him playing and writing a song, the melody sounded too much like John. So much so I couldn’t even use the song for myself because I felt it was John’s spirit pouring through me

Favourite Lennon solo tune. First time seeing this video. No matter what people thought of Yoko, you get the feeling the two really had chemistry here. Hard to fathom Lennon would have been 80 if he were still alive. Will never forgot hearing Howard Cosell break into Monday Night Football broadcast (think it was Pats vs Dolphins) to deliver stunning news. I was 16 years old at time. Cannot believe it was 40 years ago already.
Funfact: In the minute 1:35, whoever whispers John's name is his assistant,May Pang. The two had a brief 18-month relationship, which John affectionately called "the lost weekend". John was already interested in May Pang, but it all happened when his wife Yoko Ono asked May to relate more closely to her boss when he went to Los Angeles. May was surprised, but over the months, May Pang and John Lennon became lovers and maintained that relationship until the late 1970s

@@jeanniemarie3850 It would have fit on his All Things Must Pass album. I think Lennon was somewhat influenced by George when it came to #9 Dream. Not surprising, because of what they accomplished working together earlier during the 60's.The breakup was bitter sweet. You missed them as a whole, but got to enjoy more albums and music when they each went solo.
What do you mean? As if “Strawberry Fields Forever”, “A Day in the Life”, “I wanna hold your Hand”, I should’ve known Better”, “Woman”, “Jealous Guy”, “Imagine”, “Mind Games”, “Across the Universe” weren’t enough??!
I was ten years old when this came out and I remember swinging on a swing set on a beautiful summer day carefree singing the chorus to this song and it felt like heaven . Now it seem like it was a dream .
Of all John's fine songs, this is the one that always touches me the most. Unique in its feel and imagery, this is more than just 'great' - it truly recalls something beyond consciousness, as close to a dream in popular song form as will ever be reached. Sad, peaceful, whimsical, nostalgic, wise and knowing, all at once, it's just beautiful. The serenity of his vocal, coming to you from an 'otherworldly' distance, combines with the gorgeous sweep of the strings to take you to another place entirely. A whole world of feeling and perception is expressed in just under five minutes. Sublime, unforgettable...
Well said, I agree. I lost my wife and son. Oh how I loved them. I have listened to this for years. It calms me down. Music is powerful. I played this in my first new car 1976 Pontiac Grand Prix. This song is the greatest example of Lennon the solo arranger/producer. John produced the album and did the ethereal string arrangement himself. Perhaps even greater than anything Sir George Martin, Phil Spector or any Beatle ever arranged

John Lennon was a unique musician and man , I'm 60 I loved him , my father liked him ( Imagine was played at his funeral h) and both of my Grandfathers who would be 117 and 115 now also appreciated his talent ( both died well after J.L. ) Never mind the generations after mine . THAT is talent !.
This is by far my favorite Lennon song! It's just as fresh today as it was when it was first released. When John, a peaceful man, was so violently taken from the world, I mourned his loss. I still mourn him today. Thank you, John for sharing your gift for music with us. What more would you have shared with us? Love, peace and eternal slumber to you, John!
It's beautiful. The guitar sounds super Harrison-y. And Voormann's bass is gorgeous. Oh, man! Sometimes it punches me in the gut and makes me gasp for breath, when I think of how we were robbed of this outstanding talent. RIP John, you wonderful, impossible, complicated man.
Number nine number nine number nine number nine number nine number nine number nine number nine Enuf! This song restores #9 back to a good place. This is my favorite Lennon Song so dreamy like you're up there floating on the clouds just soaring over the world like a billowy be trip above the Earth and across the universe all the way to heaven the place he tried to imagine out of existence but couldn't because it's real and he's there now talking to the Jesus he said they were more popular than and maybe he was right because people forgot all about God the only reason we exist. Later he said it was a shame that it was true. I hope to meet him one day. #9 OCTOBER was his birthday. When he sang out HELP! I think he was calling out to God. All those years ago.
If any song reminds me of being an innocent little girl playing outside in the sunshine, kicking rocks, smelling freshly cut grass and enjoying life, this song does it for me. How beautiful!! Bring me back to the early 70's please!!!!!✌️
If he were alive today; the world would have been blessed with so much more of his amazing talent and unique character. Missing a man of great talent, impact (on others) and perspective for all of us who admired his perspective ... and silliness. Yet, seriousness. RIP.
I was in 7th grade in 1975 when I first heard this song. Junior high was rough but this was one of the songs that got me through. This may have been John’s masterpiece.
I think so.
It was!!

He died at 40 Forty Years ago. That's about right for 2020. Maybe on the Anniversary of his Death this year, Corona will go away.
When he says “feel” it’s like a shot of pure morphine to the dome, pure bliss & satisfaction.
Perfectly put.

Another masterpiece in a long list of John Lennon masterpieces.
Very very long...

In my opinion his best solo song. Underrated and forgotten this melody takes me above the clouds..
mate this song is not underrated, it's one of his best and most loved. How can you say underrated???
I always loved this song. It was so dreamy and soothing. One of John's greatest.
Love it, favorite song
This song is so soothing and peaceful. Gives me peace of mind whenever I listen to it

Man.. I wasn't even born when the Beatles were hitting the charts , not when they broke , not when Lennon and Harrison died .. Somehow I feel the deep connection between these Fab four and my soul..
And gradually speaking I've listened so many Beatles early recorded song (Quarrymen) but this Dream song had different alterations in my heart and soul , For the first time I felt John Lennon is dead while listening the song.. and for the first time I've cried while listening the song
What he has given to me I can't repay in any Form
Everyday he helped me
I cherished every moment 💞.
Love you John and will always do..
please make sense or just pass the blunt
You'll be even more moved then, to know that this is the song where he predicts his own death. The lyrics - someone call out my name as it started to rain - something warm, sudden cold, the spirit dance was unfolding - etc.
John Lennon at his best!

People always talk about Imagine being John's most beautiful song. My opinion, of course but this is far better.
This one is up there but my favorite one is Oh My Love
Yes, I agree. This song is underrated. It's not heard enough!
For some reason it brings me back as a child summers day

This song takes me to another world.
Funny you say that, I've always felt certain epic songs just transport you to another world and this is certainly one of them!
Its almost a George Harrison song...I love it💋
@@jeanniemarie3850 It would have fit on his All Things Must Pass album. I think
Lennon was somewhat influenced by George when it came to #9 Dream.
Not surprising, because of what they accomplished working together
earlier during the 60's.The breakup was bitter sweet. You missed them as a
whole, but got to enjoy more albums and music when they each went solo.
This song IS from another world, Arcadia.
The two spirits are asking -John, John come along, come along...grow,, grow
Et en Arcadia ego...
the brilliance brings a tear to your eyes
which eye? u can't have one tear for 2 eyes
Best song John ever recorded. Proof that if he wanted to he could compose an incredible melody.
It ain't just about melody, macca
I can hear this great piece of music and never, ever, get tired of it!
The Master,no one compares.
I was ten years old when this came out and I remember swinging on a swing set on a beautiful summer day carefree singing the chorus to this song and it felt like heaven . Now it seem like it was a dream .
Hands down my favorite John Lennon song. I completely love it. I wish i could dream myself flying through the sky while this song is being played.
when can i put my hands up again?
I will Listen to this while dating someone
This is a pure time machine. Just drops me back into my 70's self.
Very well put. You just expressed so eloquently everything I thought about this song. 👍👍
I totally agree, Unforgettable

Well said, I agree. I lost my wife and son. Oh how I loved them. I have listened to this for years. It calms me down. Music is powerful. I played this in my first new car 1976 Pontiac Grand Prix. Yes I agree a great song John Lennon a awesome singer and song writer
You’re right about that!!!
Yoko may have been many things, but you gotta admit that Lennon adored her.
He found real love
@@tomflynn4720 Cynthia was his real love. Yoko was just a drug buddy and stupid obsession. He completely changed when with yoko, he wasnt his usual self. He became so serious. Besides, at one point John did want to go back to cynthia but of course yoko put a stop to that. John also wrote jealous guy for Cynthia too.
This song is not about Yoko. He was with May Pang at this time and she's the one who whispers "John" in the song.
@@tomflynn4720 No. Yoko drugged him. She made him discover heroin.
Yoko Ono was not a barefoot waif that John found in his Asian travels, she was a talented (and wealthy) New York artist.
Not only did he adore her, she adored him and brought out the best in him. He found peace with her.

Wow, I didn't know that! Very high beautiful praise indeed and I must agree with the fore mentioned artist on high in her own right. I've always felt the same. No song like it.
John Lennon is the very very best, the number one!!! My master, my teacher!!!
I had the John Lennon Legend DVD when I was in college and I remember taking acid with some friends and just sitting down and watching the DVD from beginning to end multiple times. This is one of the songs/videos that really stands out from that day. It was a great trip and I will always look back at that time in my life very fondly.
Nice song of John newly heard but so good and captivating haunting yet a cool song of him
This and watching the wheels. Are two favorites.imagine the songs he would have written.
