Physical Media vs Streaming: BANNED Michael Jackson Simpsons Episode, Disney+ & Season 19 DVD Boxset

- I'll be honest, I was in 2 minds about releasing this video. It began as an announcement video basically saying "Oh look, we have the Simpsons season 19 on DVD now" but instead evolved into a statement about the importance of physical media, why it should still exist, and how streaming is mediated in some instances through censorship. Case in point: the controversy surrounding the banned Michael Jackson episode Stark Raving Dad from Season 3 - looking specifically at Disney+ (DisneyPlus), the new streaming app designed specifically for Disney related properties, along with their acquisitions and new releases such as The Mandalorian and Monsters at Work. This video explores the benefits of physical media, but takes into account the benefits of streaming - and how both platforms can perhaps co-exist due to their unique benefits - though outlines why censorship and book-burning from creators such as Matt Groening and Al Jean can compromise the foundation of a series. How long until more episodes become banned out of respect, just in case they offend someone? Looking into the future of the Simpsons DVD releases, things look promising - but we still cannot be sure. I'd appreciate your thoughts on the matter in the comments below.

When media started being removed or altered made me really start thinking more about this issue.
yeah look at all the little edits they do to older media now. They removed a Malcolm in the middle episode, removed the Simpsons homer frog licking bit (at least in the UK). If you own the cd they can't retroactively change it. They even want to remove Trump from Home alone 2
@@testaccount4191 Even Beavis and Butt-head got the same treatment. DVD versions of the episodes have a lot removed from them compared to the original broadcast versions. There is no escaping censorship.
@@AmyDaisy69 Not when the production rights of your IP belong to a broadcast corporation. The only way to escape censorship is by running your own ship.
My sister wanted to watch Andi Mack on Disney+ because it's unique for a kid show to tackle heavy topics. It's a strange and oddly interesting series, but they've removed countless episodes because of the subject matter. Disney+ only houses a couple episodes of the first season and leaves out plenty of episodes from the others. Andi Mack is an impossible show to follow in the first place, let alone with giant sections of the story missing.
1964, bro
This is why I always say “Long live the physical media!” It will always be superior to streaming.
Agreed!
Physical media is forever buy laser disc.
Dvd’s are priceless
DVDs are just peak before the Dr Who classic episodes came on BBC Iplayer I bought the dvds and I still did after
Morals and collectors aside, piracy has legitimately never been more justified.
And it's about to be more and more, bro
Yup.
Big companies, specially media baded companies left moral a long time ago.
I have over 6,000 movies and over 1,400 TV series collected starting in the mid 90's before all the cancel culture. As better audio/video quality become available, I just replace my content. Thankfully hard drive prices drop as media sizes get larger due to increased quality. You can most definitely lose physical media due to fire, flood, theft, etc. With media on hard drives, you can easily make backups. I have 2 copies of all my media, 3 of my favorites.
Sometimes, the only way to get the original product is to pirate because it was made "safe" on streaming.
I can’t stand the thought of a streaming-only future. We need DVDs and Blu Rays. I resisted getting Netflix for YEARS until I got a 4K smart TV in 2017, as I was desperate for 4K shows to watch on it! I also want to be able to enjoy shows uncut with all the content they may be missing on streaming and broadcasts! Also, after watching videos from James A Williams, and seeing as I’ve been wanting my own kids for years, if I do have kids, I CANNOT let them watch the CGI version of Fireman Sam! It’ll be the stop motion era only for them!
ye
Netflix still releases seasons of their shows on physical media.
Thats fucking ridiculous
Studios wonder why people pirate things, and then remove episodes from circulation and make them unavailable.
Im still wondering when they gonna finish the complete collection of My little pony Generation 4 dont look it up most of the DVD cases are bootleg copies, particularly seasons 8 and 9 they dont actually exist, as well as other shows that never got a full release on DVD. Then you got animated shows that started on DVD then just completely gave up midway and they dont even have a chronological order, they just have like 1 or 2 DVDs saying "this is the ultimate collection" and they just feature like 12 of the 82 episodes of all of the seasons combined, you have no idea how much that pisses me off, right its like buying a book when the author says "right guys there's gonna be 7 more books coming in the following years, stay tuned for those then immidiately as soon as the 7 years are up the only book that is still in circulation is book 1... maybe book 2. Oh yeah sure you can probably find every single page on a PDF document file type or like an "official site" but physical books as well are being phased out too, i'd be surprised if kids even read books anymore
If "The Simpsons" were so worried about the episode, then where were they during the actual trials? Why wait so long to censor the episode? And where's this energy for other guest stars who were guilty of something?
Al Jean likes to pander to the popularity of extremist sheeple. They are the same people who bullied the actors who have played Carl and Apu to step down after 30 years. Apparently forcing it so only a black man can play a black character and firing white voice actors will solve racism. Its just absurd.
I think it's the difference between Fox and Disney.
It's not so much The Simpsons producers but DISNEY. Disney is infamous for erasing, deleting or censoring material that they suspect can be controversial. Recently they changed the name of Boba Fett's Slave I spaceship. Because slavery is a taboo issue with conservatives in the US. To the point that they don't want critical race theory to be something that kids learn in school. Because they argue that it only makes white people look like the villains and makes people of color hate them more. Meanwhile Liberals want slavery to be discussed. And welcome any opportunity to talk about it. Disney simply decided to avoid controversy and they changed the name of Fett's ship. Removing the "Slave I" moniker. So in short... Disney is the real problem here.
@@Jedzelex Make me wonder if they'd still do this if Disney was still alive. Walt wouldn't even want to go near Alfred Hitchcock due to being disgusted with "Psycho". He'd probably have a fit knowing his company owns "Simpsons" and other more adult-oriented stuff.
@@Jedzelex fuck Disney.
physical media is also a conversation piece. I had a housemate and we were both very busy with our own lives and barely crossed paths, and when we did, it was just small talk as it was assumed we had nothing in common. Turned out we were both fanatics of Italian horror movies, but since it wasn't all over our shelves, then there was no way we could have known.
I want these two guys who made those false claims to actually show proof that Jackson abused them until then Jackson is innocent he was founded not guilty twice and these two men ruined the Simpsons for us now because of their false claims we lost a good classic episode
I own every available season of The Simpsons on dvd and it was totally worth buying them all. The easter eggs, deleted scenes, butterfinger commercials, and audio commentaries are just amazing. One of the reasons physical media is more superior than streaming.
They bragged about having the MJ episode when he died but now they take it away because of not proven accusations.People are innocent until proven guilty. Someone should make up lies about them and get the whole series taken down.
even if the accusations are true, it’s still possible to have media that contains questionable content available to the public, and it’s important for media preservation. maybe they could just add a warning like the WWII looney tunes shorts physical release? ;-)
I understand the ire against people like Cosby who go free on technicalities. But Jackson was acquitted by a court of law. That's good enough for me.
@@dinobotpwnz Yes. He was aquitted twice! Also, the 2 posthumous accusers have MAJOR credibility issues and so many holes in their claims have already been called out. The only reason they got as much attention as they did was because they got HBO to air their documentary. They had already been peddling their crap through tabloid media in the years leading up to that and no one was paying any attention to it.
donald duck molested me! ban disney!
Dude, there was at least one allegation made by a women that Matt Groening was on the plane to Epsteins island and she was ordered to give him a foot rub when she was underage!
But this gets sweeped under the rug of course!
I think an old season 3 DVD box set of the Simpsons might be worth quite a bit of money these days, due to the removal of "Stark Raving Dad", from TV reruns and streaming services, its a good thing to keep around.
I will always love having a Physical Copy
Just imagine only being able to have it on a stream once it’s gone off the service you can’t watch it anymore
I totally agree. But these days, I find myself purchasing movies on Amazon Video for the same reason. I wish they didn't make it so easy for me to own my favorite movies on digital. There's something wonderful about having the DVD box. I miss it sometimes.
Agreed, but the tech savvy download them. So instead of being on many DVDs we have everything "offline" on harddrives
Download it. That’s the only option they’re giving us. I got no problem with it. Piracy is gonna go up more and more, and it’s ethically justified.
And not everybody has strong internet cuz some ISPs are greedy as fuck and get away with it.
Season 18's price spike shocked me - I really wish I'd picked that up early on. Hopefully it gets a re-release at a lower price.
Disney is dumb for removing that Michael Jackson episode with the Jackson allegations having lack of strong evidence to support it yet they still have that episode guest starting chris brown despite him abusing his gf yet its still available online
My copy of season 19 arrived today and in the letter in the packaging about the season, it says, “And when is the next dvd box coming, you ask? I can confidentaly assure you. Someday!” So that is kind of confirming another box
James Thompson yea but it all depends on Disney cause they want us to watch the show on their platform
@@Code1Lyoko I'm good I'm not doing that there's plenty of seasons already on dvd
@Zyaire Colton no u haven’t cos it’s a fucking scam
Just like CDs, having the physical copy is always good, that is until the artist/producer puts a cut version and have the full version in a digital format. To that I say they deserve people pirating their music
I see nothing wrong with pirating something that's only available in that way
Banning Michael Jackson episode on the Simpson season three was just plain stupid 😡
HBO don't make factual documentaries they seem to have series of polemics (watch the the lasted Woodstock 99 to see what I mean) movies.
I don't trust some of the film maker's and accuses of MJ. They have more to gain in making money from books, interviews and films.
Making more controversial accusations after MJ has died is just opportunism.
The way the press and people in entertainment keep re-amplifying this narrative about MJ is is just a confirmation of that fact.
The Simpsons is just trying to get away false controversy the same way Sega ended their relationship with Michael Jackson.
Let the man rest in peace.
And to all the gen z twitter gang that wasn't even born when MJ was at his hight, asking to ban his music to STFU!
I have a preference for viewing animations on physical media.
I feel so bad for Michael Jackson, he loved the Simpsons😭😭😭 He was a humanitarian, a father, business man, and an overall great person, he didnt deserve any of what he went through😢❤❤❤
yes .. :( and he was just trying to abuse a boy whoever cares. But that they took the episode out sucks
@@erniemeyer1342 that same buy was asked many times if anything happened and he always said no multiple times, only when he was paid to appear in a documentary did he say something after he died, right... he was always hanging out with kids and they are all grown up now but no one ever said michael abused them.
If a showrunner actually believes MJ did it, the far more productive thing to do is to make an episode arguing this point, not destroy a previous one. Dawn DeNoon did this in a season 5 episode of Law & Order: SVU.
@@erniemeyer1342 Jeez your comment was a MONTH ago and you still don't know?! Wow. Leaving Neverland got debunked as a fraud. But many people already knew that before it was aired as Robson and Safechuck had been at that scam since 2013 right after Robson got rejected for the well-paid job working on the Cirque Du Soleil show Michael Jackson One he had been BEGGING to do, even on video talking like he already had the job (imagine wanting desperately to be choreographer of a show all about celebrating your 'abuser'), with Safechuck joining the scam soon after the Safechuck family business was hit by a huge lawsuit and needing money. So they both have multiple failed lawsuits trying to get money from the Jackson estate BEFORE their film. They failed to mention that. And they've failed again after it too. And their stories have changed every time it failed to get them money so their current claims don't even match their film. I mean, what versions do you even believe? They have many multiple contradictory timelines. By the way LN was directed by a creepy freak who says kids can have a "fulfilling sexual and emotional relationship" and "pleasant sex" with a grown man, and got caught out lying about how much research he even did into the Jackson case. (3 weeks, to 18 months, to "followed the case since 1993") and you think they're credible? Wow.
I can explain why I prefer physical releases in three words; Michael Jackson episode.
It's funny because in a very late season there's an episode which references the 'Lisa it's your birthday' song.
I remember that scene! Ironic for sure. :)
The episode is Mr. Lisa's Opus
Many people do bad things, but why should their lives be defined purely by them, when they also do good? Michael Jackson was never found guilty while he was alive, and to cancel him long after his death when there is no possible way for him to defend himself is really disgusting.
Lol, you must think OJ never committed murder either. Hope they don't find out after he dies! eek
@@Lost_n_Found_1 OJ was clearly guilty, but just because he got away with it doesn't mean everyone who is acquitted in court is guilty. Many are innocent and maliciously prosecuted. When it comes to MJ, who knows the truth besides him and his potential victims, if there are any. I prefer to give him the benefit of the doubt in the absence of him being able to defend himself. His so-called victims have made a lot of money out of this.
@@AmyDaisy69 You're insane if you believe he's not a child molester, lol.
@@Lost_n_Found_1 Guilty or not, Naked Gun should still be on sale.
@@talibong9518 It is.
funny how they put a disclaimer at the begging of Dumbo but contradict themselves like this
The fact that homer appears on the s19 cover pisses me off even more than them removing the faces off the spine of the s18 dvd.
You tell it how it is. That's for sure, and I 100% agree. Really fudged the artwork for this one.
I like the Simpson DVD set.
I can’t believe the goth from South Park does DVD reviews
Exactly my thoughts!
I have a Simpsons season 3 dvd box set. It has the Michael Jackson episode. I had no idea it was banned lol
Keep hold of that set! Haha
I also have season 3 with the episode in it. I’m so happy about it
I feel this is bad optics since Michael Jackson actually went to court for his allegations a decade before he died. I remember it being a joke in so many shows about him. Do people just not remember things?
People were making jokes about it in the 90s, and yet a shamumentary comes out and people are acting like it's new.
@@DiggitySlice I really do think people just forget some things way too easily
Streaming isn’t always good if you don’t have great internet you will buffer so Physical will always be king
The servers need to be up to scratch too, Netflix always goes down for me.
Its why I bought the 5th season of scrubs finally after all these years. They took down the black face episode after only now finding it offensive. I wonder what happened June 3rd last year that completely changed their minds🤔
I am not a huge defender of physical media, but I absolutely think people should have the option. It's disgusting how much it can cost now (i.e. 50 bloody dollars for a new Disney-owned movie) but some of us just want to own a movie/tv season and be done with it.
With regards to "a list of banned episodes not available on streaming services and that won't get a physical release": Piracy being not only more user friendly (with some games running better or with content not being geolocked for example) but also THE way for a good chunk of media preservation (like in cases like this or when games go out of print/support) sure makes attempts at stopping it look even worse.
Very interesting video. I agree with most of what you said. Hopefully we get more Simpsons DVDs
This is how I feel about music they only stream what they want everyone else gets deleted
I choose the third option of "sail the high seas" because most media isn't worth paying the ridiculous aftermarket DVD prices and digital media is better as long as you _actually_ own it.
If there are 4x3 1080p remasters of the classic episodes, let's see Blu-rays of them.
2:06 And now it's finally that date.
I feel Physical Media and Streaming can coexist. I stream most of my music but the Albums I really love I do own on vinyl.
Just watched Stark Raving Dad “legally” and honestly its just a great fucking episode, and has a surprising amount of iconic moments. Very happy to see a “new” classic Simpsons episode, don’t get to experience that often. (Or ever)
My mother who passed away 2 years ago loved that particular episode. I have very fond memories of me and her watching that ep once a month for years.
Having recently fond out that Disney scrapped that episode made me fuming mad. After I calmed down my mood changed dramatically to happiness.
I'm so glad that I kept all my physical media , and like you said...know one can take that away from me or my memories of me and mum watching it together...
That's so sad...sorry for your loss. I thought the removal of that episode was completely wrong.. it was nothing but extreme-left-sheeple pandering. People took a bias documentary as straight up fact with pitch forks blazing, which I found so bizarre and mildly horrifying. It says a lot about the world today. That episode was nothing but wholesome, and I'm glad you have it on DVD x
@@duffythedonutslayer5024 Episode featuring exonerated black man pulled, wh9ile many episodes featuring many white rock stars like Steven Tyler and Anthony Kiedis for example, who literally admit to stuff with minors, not pulled. Meanwhile Matt Groening turned out to have his manky feet massaged by minor on Jeffrey Epstein's jet. At least Nancy Cartwright and Kelsey Grammer openly support Jackson.
I think there will always be a need for physical media. As stated in the video about the pros and cons of both physical media and streaming, in the future streaming will probably come to an end. If you ever want to stream a tv show or movie, not only do you pay for the subscription but you have to pay for an internet connection too. Then the other issue is the range of content on the streaming service. How many people in the world pay for more than one streaming service at once to stream all the content they like?
Some people may point out it's easier to get a subscription to have access to all the content you want, available at anytime or anywhere, instead of purchasing dvd's or bluray, but some shows may only be available in certain countries and not others on these streaming services. I don't have a problem with streaming services, but when they start doing this (stopping the release of physical media and not streaming their content on third party platforms), that's where the cracks in streaming appear and people start to boycott them.
The banned Michael Jackson episode is still including on The Complete Third Season DVD
Looks to be the only way to watch it nowadays. Unless you're part of the pirate's crew of course... Haha. Thanks for watching!

Yes but new prints of season 3 won't have it anymore.
I still have in my DVD collection Season 3 of Little Britain. Up until 2020, I thought nothing of it; it was a show I watched as a kid because of the vulgar nature of the sketches. Now, with the BBC hiding its past love of the show, I'm grateful that I still have it in my collection. They can remove it from their website, but they can't take away my copy from my shelf.
Im glad i have the season 3 DVD of The Simpsons. I hope Disney/Fox are gonna release more seasons of The Simpsons one day, i wanna have atleast season 21 to 28 too in my collection. 💙💞🙏
Screw DVD releases in 2020. BLU RAY FTW!
Disney recently released all the Star Wars movies (except the Ewok Films & Holiday Special) on Blu Ray in 4k.
Wasn't Michael Jackson involved in "Do the Bartman"? Are they pretending that song never existed?
He wrote it, but under a different name
It shouldn't be up to companies to ban episodes, it should be up to the people who make it.
It should be up to nobody. Nobody really should be doing such a thing. That being said, ultimately the studio should have final say - which is like you said, the creators.
That being said being said, I subscribe to cable, Netflix and Amazon. That’s enough money spent that I fully justify my downloading of all my favorite content. It’s mine to keep forever because I don’t want to wake up some day and it’s gone because of one stupid reason or another. So they can argue illegality all they want, I’m still gonna do it and feel ethically justified 100%
Dr. Colossus has scientifically proven season 9 was the last true Simpsons season, zombies began at season 10
I don't really like the episodes of The Simpsons that aired after the movie so I'm not really interested in collecting all the season but I understand there are collectors who want to own all the seasons. Also what are your thoughts on Matt Groening's new show Disenchantment on Netflix?
Appreciate your thoughts! Still need to watch Disenchantment - from what I've seen, it looks okay. May give it a proper watch and upload a review of it sometime.
I remember they said they were going to rerelease the 20th season with way better bonus features than the first release, such as commentary on all the episodes, though this was years ago before they up and quit releasing them after Season 17 for a time.
This is why vhs dvd blue rays are still important because there all ways the same
with the micheal episode, they should do something similar to the releases of the WWII looney tunes shorts on dvd, adding a warning about the contents prior to the episode, explaining the history, and then have the episode play as normal after. outright banning an episode is never a good solution, even if the accusations are true. if we don’t have access to content from the past, we can’t learn from it moving into the future, not to mention the importance of media presentation ^_^
they have this on plenty of their older films like the old dumbo.
No they shouldn't. Because the 'documentary' that made them pull the episode has been debunked as a fraud anyway. Look up 'lies of leaving neverland' for just a small sample of the 60+ lies, contradictions and edited video in that fake movie that many REAL abuse survivors like myself who weren't even Jackson fans, absolutely detest. Those guys have been at this scam since 2013 after one failed to get job on the huge Jackson TRIBUTE show 'Michael Jackson One' and the other when his family business needed millions to pay off a lawsuit. They've had multiple failed lawsuits and changed their stories every time it failed and their most recent failed attempts after their film don't match what they said in the film. Jackson didn't do any of that stuff. But you know who did? Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. Both admitted to stuff with minors but nothing happens to white rock starts because most of them do that creepy crap but their episodes don't get pulled, huh? Nancy Cartwright openly supports Jackson. Notice how the Simpsons producers didn't like to talk about Matt Groening and his manky feet maasage on Jeffrey Epstein's jet?
@@carn9507 They're racists projecting the sins of a white man onto a dead Black man. This is a post-mortem lynching.
A physical copy is much better than the media copy, because once you've bought the physical copy that's it you own it, it's yours. A media copy you have to pay a monthly subscription, but if you don't then you get it taken away from you.
In my opinion a physical copy will always beat a media copy.
I think they should've made flash carts a mainstream thing, digital AND censor-free
Never heard Digital Versatile Disc once in my life before this video. Strange.
What about Simpsons *Blu-Rays?* That would be sweet!
I will always prefer physical media
In my opinion this is what they should do
1 Re release Season's 19 and 20 with Milhouse on season 19 and Moe on season 20
2 Cancel The Simpsons
3 Starting next year release one season a year starting in December and have every season match the streaming service anyone else agree?
I have a whole lot of DVD’s that I’ve accumulated over the span of the last seven months. I love them and I’d only switch to streaming if Disney added stuff like The Pitts and Oliver Beene on Disney+ in their original 1080i quality.
Anyone who's ever even heard of the book 1964 has been worried about that kind of thing for a long time. Stock up books and DVDs, people. You're kids are gonna thank you, someday. Don't trust what you can't control
Because the big bad tv is gonna ruin life oh no we don't have books my kids are stupid. The logic
1984 not 64
I think it’s cool that when they pulled the dnd episode of Community the Blu-ray set was out of stock for months.
Whelp that’s why many of us have it downloaded. We believe in art free of censorship and free of rewriting of history by big corporations who are looking to please the lowest common denominator for maximum profitability.
Orgs like SAG should start getting contracts to include clauses preventing future editing or omissions.
This is why streaming sucks. Physical Media is way better.
I'm curious as someone who pirates nearly all of his media is it a barrier for you to get a piece of media and instead of DVD releases would you like sort of flash drives or hard drives that officially contain the video files. This would essentially be 21st century physical media you plug it in to your phone or pa5 or PC and play the videos you want.
this is what I want tbf, a future proofed read only physical archive of my favourite shows. Sick of all these communists censoring everything.
This is why I went out and got that box set
Piracy works for me. I'm broke as fuck anyhow, so I feel little shame. I at least try to support smaller creators (youtubers, underground musicians etc.) in various ways, but I'm not giving part of my rather modest disability cheque to a millionaire. Sorry.
7:55 does this mean it won’t be on the season 1-20 box set coming out? Stark raving dad that is.
Doubt it.
That's the million dollar question. Personally, I don't think they will include it - meaning more outrage from fans. But I guess we'll wait and see.
dvdreviewsstudios yeah that is the million dollar question. Is the boxset not going to be reissues of the original dvd releases?
I find it interesting that you like the later seasons, I have up until season 13, would you recommend buying on?
With every TV show there's good and bad. Some episodes post season 13 aren't very good, but I honestly think the terrible episodes are after season 26.
i'd have to say season 14 was pretty good and imo the quality dropped around 15 but i still buy the sets because i enjoy watching the episodes nonetheless (Aquatic Wife being my top of 18, and i recall liking 19 a bunch)
@@Jasbre My last fav season was 21. The rest wasn’t good sadly
I have the season three dvd with Stark Raving Dad and the episode on Vudu which I bought before it was removed. It’s still there in my library even with it out of circulation.
I like physical media better but they take up so much fuckin space
Hey streaming sites won’t give you the original aspect like the DVDs but canceling for streaming is stupid because we gotta keep buying and buying every month and it’s wrong and stupid but the Simpsons world app is shut down now
Why not download the episodes for a small price that way you can pick and choose your episodes to own not everyone is affened by the michael jackson episode or the twin towers episode the problem is people believe what ever they want so if it afends one person it afends them all what ever happened to freedom of speech why must everything be censored or deleted from history if it pisses someone off and afends
I didn't realise they were removing it from future DVDs as well, that's a lot of effort. Isn't there a Cosby joke cut from an episode too...
Suppose its not the first time, the "Tourette's" line was edited out of broadcast and home media very quickly. I used to have it on VHS but taped over it before I realised that it was changed in home media releases d'oh!
Edit: if they keep releasing DVD and blu for Simpsons, I'll keep buying them. I have 2-20, I'll get season one eventually, I just get annoyed by the lack of play all options on the old DVDs and used to have season one on VHS until I donated it a few years ago (which I regret, it had great art on the slipbox)
Yeah I'm buying what I can while I can this is also why I buy ps2s as dvd players
I Know this is a little bit off topic but, will there be a November update video?
Not likely - but I hope to make them more frequent in the new year.
OK.
I like having physical copies of my stuff and it does look nice on a shelf, but I'm glad you also brought up the "wasting value" aspect of streaming services.
By the very nature of having access to content only when subscribed it encourages the user to binge watch as much stuff in as short of time as possible to "get their money's worth", but I've realized that I hate binge watching shows.
What I do enjoy is turning on the tube after a long day of work right before I go to sleep and watch an episode of something I like.
For a two cour anime this can take a whole month to watch and box sets with hundreds of episodes much, much longer.
At that point, would I really be saving much money by streaming?
Honestly given the shows huge decline in quality, I am content with what I have. I mean I hope they do resume physical releases but if they don't then I am happy with what has been released.
do they at least release bluray season sets? i felt kinda stupid buying 480p/576p dvds of a show that is literally produced in hd since a certain point in time
I dunno. With streaming, they are too fractured and sometimes when a show gets taken off to move ship, half the time they just die on the streaming service
this crap will eventually become cable 2.0 once some companies get that critical idea to bundle streaming services and its price. As long as DVDs are in the highest level of resolution. They will be wanted by enough people because sometimes the physical form is the highest flattery.
Disney already has a bundle with Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN Plus, so I think we're either close or already there unfortunately...
you show a screenshot of season 19 for $50, then freak out about the price of $500 for seasons 1-20. While, yes, I'd agree that's a lot of money for DVDs - that equals $25 for each season, or half price. It's cheaper than your collection, assuming you bought it new.
$50 was only a starter price, that's not actually how much it's going for. Last time I checked, to buy each season new it would cost you around £10-20 (here in the UK), but I got seasons 1-10 secondhand in good condition for £5 or less.
@@strawberryswisher. it is now, but this video is 2 years old. when this was released it was $50 new, and the boxset was $25 new for each season. All I'm saying is the boxset was considerably cheaper, if you were buying new copies of Simpsons season 1-20 separately. i would assume that boxset is worth more than $500 now, too.
i bought seasons 1-8 new originally, then sold them years later, years later again i bought them used on ebay dirt cheap. i also recommend buying them used, but some people insist on buying new.
Streaming kills the back catalogue. When the label releases a greatest hits of an artist, that’s the end of the early releases

Physical media is making a huge comeback.
They need to do BD releases. I don't even care if they just do SDBD, I want them on BD. Al Jean only canceled the DVDs because he was mad no one wanted to buy his garbage seasons.
I also think it's bullshit that they removed Stark Raving Dad but kep the Mel Gibson episode. It shows they only pulled it for media buzz.
I actually think 17 is the worst season of the entire series, however, I do think later seasons have had some good episodes. Thanksgiving of Horror, 24 Minutes, Christmas of Futures Past, Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind, and Gone Maggie Gone being a few examples.
i think about burning my own, but by the time i have cover art and the plastic case.... I'll just wait for someone to sell it
The Lady Gaga episode is the most groomy episode of the Simpsons. And one of the worst. And I kinda like Gaga usually but that episode. Ew.
They have been enablers of oligarchy ever since Dana Gould joined the ridiculously bloated writing/producing staff. When I quit watching in the 2000s, they had about 40 different producer credits per episode! *King of the Hill* had 10 concurrently, and *Family Guy* and *Futurama* were about the same.
great video man
I miss the heyday of DVDs so much...
We still need a real season 20 box set release. I have seasons 1-19 but refuse to get the season 20 Bullshit release. I want it complete with outtakes and commentaries lol.
I'm sorry .. even if the packaging of the Simpsons Dvds was always very nice, the quality on Disney plus is much better. Colors are stronger and lines are clearer especially on a modern 4K television it looks better than DVDs. I think a BluRay release with all the episodes of the series would be best
I'd be down for that - be a shame to lose physical releases for this show.
Whats the show at 408 with the big silver box
Doctor Who. I can't remember who the enemy is, but they're up there with Daleks as iconic Who enemies.
you dont need internet to watch a dvd i can bring a laptop on a road trip and watch in the car on in a hotel with out worrying about hackers
Video mentions Netflix as an example of a company replacing physical media... And yet Netflix releases seasons of their owned series on DVD or blueray
Wtf I recently bought a season 3 DVD boxset and I get this video in my recommended?
The world works in mysterious ways.
What about "The Simpsons: Eat My Shorts : The Tracey Ullman and other pre-Season 1 shorts"?
The thing about physical media is that it is a slightly better format on its own purely isolated from money, but in terms of value, streaming is so insanely superior, it's overall the better way to watch things. I would only buy a DVD if I really liked whats on it and wanted to properly own it.
There is certainly value in DVDs though. I do think there should be an option.

the micheal Jackson epsidoe banned?!?
I’m surprised they haven’t removed the James woods episode yet.
He hasn't done anything. You're conflating having a particular political opinion with allegations of sexual assault of minors. Stop being a drama queen.
I know was explained in the video but why is it that Homer appearing on the cover of season 19 dvd is pissing off Simpsons fans?
PTSD from the season 6 box
This might sound mean, but you kinda sound like Sideshow Bob. Aha, don't take it personally, I think it's just the British accent.😂
That's one hell of a compliment! Aha, appreciate you tuning in. :)

Why my comments explaining stuff keep disappearing?
They should put movies on usbs given how much space you'd save
It doesn’t have the same expected shelf life as optical media. And it’s subject to electromagnetic damage. It’s a conundrum until something more stable is developed which I’m sure will happen at some point. Meanwhile, there’s always network attached storage with fault tolerance. Yay RAID.
Considering the tip the episode about marijuana I am a Michael Jackson fan but on a side note I I don't believe he did anything but for those that do the beauty of a streaming service is you have the choice of whether to watch it I think they should put the episode on there to give people the option whether to watch it it's a Jewish choice they don't have to
