One of my friends had this game for his
Amiga 1200 back in the mid 1990's.
I borrowed it once from my friend and
gave a first try on my Amiga 500.
Although, it is as challenging as GAUNTLET,
it was cool to play for awhile 😹😸😺👍🕹️.
I believe, i still have this game for my
Commodore 64 in a compilation called
HIT-PAK (tape and disk) 😹😺👍🕹️.
You have some great C64 compilation packs! I should really start my collection going again too. I have a few but they were all superb in their own little way 😇🕹️👌
I must check it out on my A500 mini.
How does it compare to the C64 version?
Great video and another one of my favourite games.
I got this for Christmas in a compilation and it was the one I played the most. Can't remember what the other 3 or 4 were. Reminds me of my favourite as movie, Where Eagles Dare.
Sounds like it might have been the 'Hit-Pak' (6 Pak) compilation from Elite, which was a nice compilation to own at the time! I love that film too... in fact I love any war film featuring the great Richard Burton 😇🕹️👌
Loved the Hitler Rants bit. CCG has become part of my nightly viewing. Nostalgia dialled up to 11.
Between this and "Castle Wolfenstein", you would think the Axis had a real issue with storing their explosives in un-labelled containers...
Mindless arcade blasting ! Let's go!
Absolutely! Ita a decent game even when you don't stick to objectives and just roam around blasting everything. I think thats why I loved 'Alien Breed' so much for the Amiga as it sort of reminds me of this game in a strange sort of way😇🕹️👌
The game had a much more strategic side than Gauntlet.
I spent hours on the Amstrad CPC version, without ever finishing it (I was only 7 years old).
Thanks for the video
(and for humor)
I agree, the arcade/adventure style elements really engrossed me, finding the detonators... rescuing the soldiers and also, blasting everything you can see! (Apart from the dynamite!) Glad you enjoyed the video 😇🕹️👌
Literally a family favourite, remember my day playing it and shouting Fool Dynamite 😂 can't wait mate thanks as allways
The amount of times I shot the dynamite box during playthroughs was crazy... sometimes you just cant help being trigger happy haha 😇🕹️👌
I missed this one back in the day, looks pretty decent and very playable like Gauntlet
Certainly worth playing, even now - can storm through the game within half an hour and its a blast 😇🕹️👌
really thank you 😊
Hope this game brought back some good memories from the Commodore 64 gaming days 😇🕹️👌
This was a great game that I really should have played more then I did. It came into my collection fairly shortly before I got my Amiga 500 I think so I was more into 'Garrison' on the Amiga for my Gauntlet-esque fix, but ITEN was a blast from all I remember of it. I felt it compared well to the original "Castle Wolfenstein" with less stealth and far more shooting action. Good choice!
Wow yeah 'Garrison' I do remember well, although always thought it was a much slower game than the original Gauntlet... yet was a nice addition with the 'dwarf' character. Eagles Nest is a great yet 'clunkier' version of a Gauntlet-esque style 😇🕹️👌
Awwww yeah :D Loved this game so much!!!
Good little game this isn't it - certainly one that will be very memorable for many 😇🕹️👌
Thanks for sharing this video! I remember you mentioning this game on Friday's live stream. I asked in chat if it was the "Gauntlet-style" game. This is a game I didn't get a chance to play until really late (way after I had mostly switched to PC)... and I wanted to get back to it... but I completely forgot the name. Now that I know the name, I can give it another go! Thanks! 🙂
Hopefully you'll join me again on Friday - I'm going to make it a weekly thing now for a while, as I'm enjoying the banter hehe. Good game this, very memorable 😇🕹️👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer Thanks! I'll certainly try to make it. It depends on my work schedule and such. Looking forward to your next video!
I seem to recall I found this game on a C90 full of games given to me by a friend with no idea of the contents. This one stands out, I don't think I played it that much but I definitely recall the music. I have only just realised it was written by Andrew Chaillis who also wrote Frogger 64 and Crazy Kong for Interceptor Micros, the first C64 games I ever purchased. Crazy Kong was appalling, it looked like it was written in BASIC!
Yeah the Interceptor lable games weren't the best thats for sure - to sat that Interceptor founder 'Richard Jones' started Llamasoft together with Jeff Minter at the age of 16! If they hadn't have parted ways just imagine what Llamasoft games would have looked like! Mind you, Interceptors 'Pandora' Label did manage to produce this banger of a game 😇🕹️👌
Played this a LOT as a kid. Could never finish it though. Downloaded a cracked version with cheats and got a lot further but haven't had time to finish it.
To be honest, a lot of the games I play lately I need a bit of a 'helping hand' thanks to the cracked versions! Theres no shame in that hehe. Definitely get it completed someday though - still a great game😇🕹️👌
Great game that definitely more than a Gauntlet clone
A lot of depth to it really, it's a blast of a game... especially as I was also a fan of the 'Gauntlet' types to begin with so this was right up my street 😇🕹️👌
Wasn't my most memorable game since I forgot about it until now, it was a good game that I enjoyed, but I remember Gauntlet much better because I spent many hours playing that with my friend despite the levels being repetitive.
Gauntlet was pure addictive wasn't it! Like yourself - I'd play it for literally hours on end with my brother.... what would usually happen though was 'play fatigue' which would end up in him probably wanting to kill me, as when playing 2 players you'd need to follow each other or the screens wouldn't scroll haha - good memories 😇🕹️👌
I do believe that I actually played this game before I properly discovered Gauntlet itself!
The question would be then, did you find Gauntlet to be a step up or a step down after playing this one first? 😇🕹️👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer We should keep a few things in mind: I was either 7 or 8 at the time, and - as such - the nuances of truly excelling at "Into the Eagle's Nest" certainly eluded me back then. This would be more my fault than the game's, and yet - even so - they did factor into my initial reactions. Furthermore - and this must especially be known - the comparison was additionally unfair for reasons of hardware: whereas I discovered today's game on a microcomputer, I first discovered Gauntlet on an NES. To this day the songs from that version are indelibly burned into my psyche, and I could easily still hum them by heart. To be certain: the Commodore 64 could be an absolute auditory beast when used correctly, but Into the Eagle's nest was a mostly silent affair. As such - now with preamble aside - I guess I'm saying I actually liked Gauntlet more back then, but I still think this here is a great game too!
Similar to Gauntlet only in the most general way, as a top-down exploratory type of game. Other than that it was its own thing. This wasn't a game I was familiar with back in the day but one I probably would have liked.
The way that the enemies would approach was same as well... they'd make a direct bee-line for you. Only thing missing was 'Nazi' generators haha 😇🕹️👌
ah remember this one, great game. I remember thinking this looks photo realistic
Crazy isn't it... I was similar with the game 'Dan Dare'. I was mindblown with the crisp graphics back in the day! Haha... how times has flown huh 😇🕹️👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer I also saw it on a tiny amber monitor. Dan Dare was a sight too yeah
Did this ever come out on the Amstrad? It's triggered a few memories for me.
Definitely came out for the Amstrad... came out on many of the computers back in the day ranging from the Apple II all the way up to the Amiga and even DOS! 😇🕹️👌
Alright I subscribed. Calm down.
I've only now realized it's a Gauntlet-like. Honestly never noticed this.
Haha Schnell!!! Schell!!! - thankyou! Now lets make sure we bring back as much nostalgia as possible.... yeah, its pretty much a Gauntlet clone really, with larger characters and a very wonky gun that's always slightly 'off-set'... still, a classic 😇🕹️👌
You need to cover a zero known C64 game by Activision called "Portal". It is a fantastic sci-fi story of an astronaut who arrives back to an empty Earth, he finds a single working computer, and a story AI called "Homer", between them, they use various sections to find out what happened, like Science, Society, etc.!
I'm going to have to buy that one on Ebay and try getting the manual for it - then I can give it a good playthrough. Looks awesome - I never had that one as a kid! Definitely one for a future video 😇🕹️👌
I could never finish this. Definitely should have worn silver like the enemy and splinter celled your way through 🙂
Haha yeah - wow, Splinter Cell... now theres a game I've not heard mentioned in a while! I had that for my original X-Box and loved that game too 😇🕹️👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer I'm not a fan of stealth but splinter cell is pretty decent
Wolfenstein 2D
Precisely - very similar indeed, from a different perspective 😇🕹👌
Too bad we could never play as the good guys for a change in these types of games...
Be a nice twist if you could play either side... would certainly have extended the longetivity of many games! 😇🕹️👌
My friend bought this game and I made a copy with my cartridge. I never really cared for it though. There never seemed to be enough ammo to kill all the enemies, and it kind of bugged me that your character's gun is off-center.
Ahh yes, I must admit the off-centre shooting was also a bit of a pain! If you was too close to a wall, you'd just waste loads of ammo trying to shoot one of the enemies through doorways 😇🕹️👌
for what its worth, i thought it was just a basic shooter... thing, not really thinking of the theme, just fun to go and blast some baddies so to speak
Yeah that's half the fun, like I mention near the end of the video it's just good fun running around shooting everything without having to complete the objectives 😇🕹👌
effing mintox this game - miles better than gauntlet for me....... brilliant bringing in "Downfall" for this - bwhahahahahaaaarrgghh
Haha yeah couldn't resist - 'Downfall' is a great film too though... that actor is awesome 😇🕹️👌
Game was kinda ... meh ... From technical standpoint very well done, graphics, music and sounds. But gameplay was simply not there. Maybe because of those generic German soldiers, with rudimentary AI . Overall, your biggest opponent was you, if you waste ammo, shoot explosive chest or are simply impatient. Later, when I played Wolfenstein 3D on PC, I got the same vibe. Technological marvel, but soulless and bland.
Thats the subjective nature of the beast with games - did you prefer Gauntlet? I guess, like the aforementioned, the enemies made a 'beeline' towards the players almost in a single file formation... I suppose they took that element and tried to create the arcade style vibe for this game. As you say though, deaths could be very harsh especially when exploding those crates 😇🕹️👌
The H man made me subscribe to you...
Hmm is that a channel? Awesome - always good to know there are people out there that are sharing this channel recommendations. Great stuff 😇🕹️👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer Just making a joke about hitler telling me to subscribe at the start of your video 😀 Love your videos. I'm in the states and didn't realize how many games we missed out on! Got my vic II kawari and now can play all the PAL games on real hardware.
This is the first C64 game I ever completed from start to finish. It was so good!
Good memories my friend and, some achievement! I'd always end up blowing myself up at some stage of the game 🤣🕹👌
