It feels like the developer only thought people enjoyed Jump King because it made them angry, people enjoy it because of the fun design, brilliant art style, and while it was cruel it never felt unfair, if you fell in Jump King it was because you made a mistake with your jump, it didn't expect you to magically know that at random points you could fall through the floor, or have terrible terrain physics that mean you are floating, or extremely irritating mechanics like locking you into a fall that forced you to go to the start again, that isn't fun
it's like it takes inspiration from old school rage games like cat mario or IWBTG but with the punishing fails of jump king and getting over it
@@punpunpunyama9271I wouldn't give it too much credit, it really is that indolent, had a bunch of stolen assets that you need permission for commercial use, and NFT promotion. It's trying to be a lazy cash grab, and doesn't stand anywhere near getting over it and Jump king. In fact it's a huge insult to rage games due to it's ulterior motives and slothfulness.

Jump King is basically vertical Celeste. Given, the skill ceiling isn't as high but the reason its a beloved game is because its a really well polished platformer with amazing soundtrack and artstyle. Thats the exact thing that makes Jump King also a good game.
Only Up is like someone discovered Unity last week and pasted in every single asset in the engine and expect things to make sense

Well, I also saw this game explode and watched some clips of people raging and doing wacky shit, but I also have no idea about the routes and plays and the general layout, so it’s nice to jump into it from zero with Connor cuz it brings me back to the insanity that were jump king and pogostuck streams AND I got to finally see how the game is played and explore it

This is painful to watch and not due to Connor in any way. This game looks like someone bought an assets pack and just threw a bunch of crap into the air.
nah, it's even worse, it's stolen assets... not all but quite some. to the point the dev had to delete some assets.
Mostly because it is, except they didnt buy these assets in many cases. They also engage in NFT promotion so you know the kinds of people they are

Oh, I came across this game randomly on steam and all the reviews for it were really bad. I’m surprised to hear it’s popular right now. I thought it looked well made based off the pictures so the negative reviews seemed harsh but they were mostly negative towards the player movement and physics which isn’t something you see in pictures.

As much as I don't care about jump king there was something about it. This game, however, has hitboxes that make no sense, no real artistic cohesion, shit audio track for the narration with a voice one would use to read the phonebook or a school essay. it is NOT the worst game in the world but there is no reason for this game to become as popular as it did
