    That Animal path could also be a foot path, I once followed one that took me to what was left of a small cabin but thanks for sharing.

    Some where out in Death valley my dad would take us boys sometimes and he knew of a mine out there he would high-grade. The only thing i remember was that it was behind the ranger station. How far? I have no idea. But he'd get some of the most beautiful red quartz with gold wire shot through it. This was back in the '60's so it might be gone now. Anyway, thanks for taking us along. Some wild geology going up that trail. Be safe.

    Super nice vid sir - really neat looking mine entrance on that one. We are doing a bit of exploring tomorrow hoping to get some shots of some glacial geology cliff features up here in Washington, (but it won't be 80 degrees!) Again, thanks for sharing your exploring.

    It's an interesting commentary on how bad a lot of modern maps are. I often like to look at maps going back to the 1870's around me in Southern Oregon and see how many named places we have lost.

    How many miles did they have to haul timbers into those sites? I would really like to explore out there.

    • @straybullitt
      @straybullitt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It looked like the only wood in that particular mine was the single ore chute, and the ore car track ties.
      That was the dilemma for prospectors. A claim that might be profitable if there was easy access to materials, supplies, water, etc, could be challenging to make any profit at all when located in the middle of the desert.
      If the precious metals are abundant enough, men would go to great lengths to mine them in some of the most inhospitable, difficult to access places that you can imagine.
      They would haul a timber as far as it took, if they believed that there was a possibility of getting rich by doing so. That's how far.
      Tramways and pack animals were used a lot back then to bring in materials and equipment to remote, otherwise inaccessible areas.

Hope you won't remain a recluse like some other YTubers who tend to lose the audience's interest and subscriptions. I can't speak for the creator of these great videos but as for myself, I have been debating for a long time whether or not to show my face and speak in my videos. It's a privacy thing for me but I think I'll just keep myself off the screen. It's difficult to commit to sharing your entire personality on the screen. It's something you can't really reverse if it's uncomfortable.
