Watching the game on TV gave me chills then. Watching these highlights still gives me chills now. Especially that steal-and-score with 1:10 left in the game.
Being from the St.Louis area, this moment will forever live in the hearts and minds of Blues' fans forever. Being a 7 1/2 year old hockey fan in the spring of 1986, I wished I could've been there. Now that I'm older and my love for hockey and the Blues has grown over the years, I appreciate this moment more and more when at the time it happened I don't think I really did. RIP Doug Wickenheiser
And in June 2019 the curse upon the ones called the Saint Louie Blues has been lifted in large thanks from a rookie called Binnsky , am 58 and have been there since day 1, oh what a glorious feeling ! Oh Good Lord I am ready to come home now !
One of my favorite parts of the video is at 3:44 when they pan back to show the crowd after the game-tying goal by Paslawski. 17,000 going absolutley NUTS!!!
yea kreege i forgot about that one...but that blues team was special with wick,an injured sutter, lavallee off the scrap heep, the list goes on and demers was his last season before detroit...st.louis fan from canada loved kmok with dan kelley...
nov. 29, 2000. The blues were down 5-0 with 15:44 left in the game in toronto. They came back and tied it up 5-5 with 26 seconds left, forcing overtime. They scored 17 seconds into overtime to win 6-5. It is the greatest deficit ever overcome in the third period to win the game. calgary also did the same thing in 1989, but they started their comeback with 18:31 left in the game. An interesting fact: Al Macinnis played in both of these games for the winning team.
I actually had seats *on the glass* at the old Arena for this game. Let me tell you, I am 40 years old now and never before or since have I ever heard a crowd erupt like this one when the Blues tied the game. Wow! It was NUTS!
Jason I agree, loved that old dirty place. The new arenas/stadiums with their fancy suites and club seats filled with stuff shirts have nothing on these old places. I'm glad I got see countless games in that old place.
I still get chills. I remember eating my Domino's pizza on the floor in front of the tv - watching the telecast. When Paslawski tied it at 5, I jumped up so quick I spilt my drink all over the place! I'd have given anything to be at the Arena that night. I bet it was deafening.
What a comeback! The ol Arena was the best. I'll never forget the Blues/BlackHawks games in the 80s with the crowd yelling Secord Sucks before the game even started. God Bless Doug Wick #14
I remember watching this on ESPN after coming home from work at a Chi-Chi's restaurant. Great layout at the end, the announcers having enough sense to say something like "And there will be a seventh game!" then shutting up for the crowd pans. Two days later, before Game 7, ESPN ran an hour special recap of the game called "The Rebirth of the Blues."
I remember watching this game too and thinking that Calgary was not gonna pull out Game 7. They did, 2-1, and that's a remarkable accomplishment to be able to come back after a loss like this one and still come up big for the deciding game. This seemed like the kind of loss that even an experienced team with older players would not get over.
Interestingly, there were no playoff games in 1986 that went beyond the first overtime period (only one the following year, which was the 4 OT Easter Epic between the New York Islanders and the Washington Capitals); 1988 was the last time that no playoff games went beyond the first overtime period.
I honestly believe that the goal that Joe Mullen scored to make it 5-2 is a shot that a goalie could only stop if it hit him. NO goalie could react in time to stop a one-time shot that was leaned into so heavily & perfectly. One-timers and shots off the pass are the most difficult shots for a goalie to track & when you factor in how close Mullen was to Wamsley when he shot and how fast & hard it left his stick it was almost an automatic goal as long as the puck did not hit the goalie directly
Great hockey moment, especially since it's the Flames choking, hahaha. I can't wait until St. Louis becomes a contender again, they're a great franchise.
While the comeback vs. Toronto in 2000 was LARGER (came back from a bigger deficit) this was Game 6 of the Conference Finals. Facing Elimination. Down 3 goals with half a period to play. The win put them 1 game away from the Stanley Cup Finals. This is also one season before the Brett Hull era began. I remember hearing about the trade on the radio thinking it ironic that Wamsley and Ramage would be going to the Flames in return for Hull.
I've just watched this for the 1,000 time . It still brings a tear to an ole Blues fan...since 1967. I loved Ken Wilson But, how do ya top the greatest hockey announcer of all time...DAN KELLY. Where was this interview of Ken saying how he hated STL. What exactly led to his leaving STL?
My dad has never said he hated STL. He loves that city and that team with his whole heart. He left STL because he adopted me and wanted to move to Hawaii to raise myself and my brother. I think there's something very honorable about that.
that blues team would have taken out montreal in the final ,just wish they had some gas left in the tank against calgary after that thrilling game 6 with the flames...its too bad they have not been back since that time even thou they have had great teams and great players like hull, oates ,stevens ,macinnis, brown......
Doug Wickenheiser is the best NHL`er in history. He didn`t get that many points, but thats cause the dude hade a latent cancer eatin` the kid up. I been through it but I survived the disease but have some efect from the chemo that are unpleasent. Anyway. Wick was the best ever. Much better than the ridiculous Yzerman, overrated Hawerchuck, and dead beat Gord Howe. Wick was the whicked one!
I disagree. I think a lot of people were put off by the lockout and the Laurie's stripping the roster of talent and selling the team. The fan base is regaining trust in the current regime and the atmosphere at the KielSavvisTrade is getting back to what it used to be.
2:18 is exactly why im not impressed with many of the goalies from back in the 80s. its not wonder why gretzky netted 50 in 39 games. the game was still awesome back then, but the goalies were just weak. if any goalie tried pulling that shit vernon did nowadays, id pull them so fast it wouldnt be funny. looks like an awesome series though, too bad i wasnt around just yet, haha.
Hi Goat! Big difference was equipment back then. Goalie leg pads were leather and heavy. Current ones are made with lightweight materials and have a medial knee pad which allows the pad to rotate on the legs allowing the goalie to slide laterally on his knees and seal off the 5-hole. Chest & arm protectors were much smaller back then. The catch glove (“trapper”) was more like a first baseman’s mitt. The advances in equipment have allowed goalies to play deep in the net and not have to come so far out to cut down the angle like they did pre-1997 or so. I played goal in high school and in good amateur leagues until 2004. My last set of equipment had much better quality and size, but my leg pads were still traditional so it was still difficult to totally seal off the 5-hole like goalies do now. The newer leg pads were just developing around 2001-2 or thereabouts, and I was hitting 50 years old then and stopped playing, so I didn’t feel like spending $1500 for the new generation leg pads. So, no, the goalies weren’t “bad” - it’s just they didn’t have the equipment which allows them to play the current style you see now.
Yeah, celebrate a win for a series they lost, because they have no Cup wins, and are now the oldest team never to have won Lord Stanley. Keep enjoying your Monday Night Miracle fans, this is all you're ever going to get!
Dude shut the fuck up. Who the fuck even brought up cups or anything? It was a great win and a great comeback. Now I'm thinking about it if you don't like the blues then why the fuck are you even watching this video? Just a lonely person looking for attention. Damn man the blues aren't even my team and that comment was so stupid I had to reply

This is reminiscent of the Cardinals Heck of a Year, gotta love the classic St.Louis content! Let’s go Blues and Cardinals!
I remember listening to this on KMOX when I was 9 years old! That excitement just came rushing back.
R.I.P Dougy!!! great memory
wow you can feel the energy in that old barn. Love it.
I miss that building. Nothing is like the old barn.
rest in peace doug, great trade by caron bringing you to the blues.
long live Doug wickenheiser and what a trade by caron..

That "barn" was old enough to be a historic landmark. They should have preserved it, not imploded it!!
Perhaps the greatest moment in St. Louis Blues hockey history. May the Wick live on...

that was an awesome series, best blues team ever.
At 14 years old, this was the most amazing game that I have ever seen.I still get goosebumps watching it.

He's referring to a more recent game against Toronto.
man, look at all that fan base and support and life! dont see that anymore at st. louis
What a stupid, vacuous comment. St. Louis has one of the most loyal fan bases in ALL sports, of any city in the country.
Funny how 2 of the Calgary players that year would go on to play many seasons for the Blues and have their numbers retired.
The fans were going nuts ( i woulda been also) . How many ex Habs were on that team ?
this team would have taken out the montreal team that season...
For Blues fans, this is our Stanley Cup...until hell freezes over and we get the real thing.
2019 :)
@@Murph96 June 12, 2019 !!!!
wow i was just born when this happend...This might be the years blues might have a chance to go to the stanley cup
Great hockey moment, especially since it's the Flames choking, hahaha. I can't wait until St. Louis becomes a contender again, they're a great franchise.
loot91 this comment has aged *extremely* well
@jrbilliken034
Have you ever heard of Dan Kelly?
actually they made it back to the conference finals in the playoffs of the 2000-2001 season but lost in 5 games to the avalanche

Is this the game where Carey Fraser was issued a death threat?
I know the Wickenheiser children. sweet people (=
@invadr1
Ruel was his coach just in his rookie year. Blame Bob Berry too if anything, if you want to blame someone.
I would be too

@diazbro1990 You make some really good points, but I still love the Blues.
The best part was at 3:29. :D
"A Shot, They SCORE!!!" :O
What music is playing in the background whenever the blues score?
When the blues (saints) go marching in
is it just me, or do the guys on the left at 5:00 kiss each other?
