  • What is this? The Powertrains 2.0 Train and Quarry Set from Jakks Pacific, for ages four and up. Wow, this looks like a really cool toy, doesn’t it?
They’ve got this little dumptruck you can move around, use to haul rocks - and there’s a remote control so you can make the train stop as it approaches the platform.
You can also pull the dumptruck in from the side to force open the trapdoor. Make the conveyor to move the rocks up so drop down into the hopper car.
Holy crap, this set looks awesome! But a motorized train set with a remote control for less than forty bucks? There’s gotta be a catch, right? Well, yeah, there is. Actually there are two - big ones. But more about that later in the video.
This set includes fifteen feet of track, so you’re gonna need a good chunk of floor space to lay this set out, and not on top of carpet. The directions are printed in plain English but somehow that doesn’t make them any easier to follow. But that’s why we’re here, to help you get it PutTogether.
Oh hello, Byron. Are you here to inspect? Can I see your badge, please? He says we’re all good.
OK, so get this, you’re going to need a total of seven triple A batteries altogether. But right now to finish building the platform we need two triple As to power the searchlight.
The instructions show that you need to attach a straight piece to the platform, but there’s almost zero guidance about how to assemble the track, so watch closely. Except for the intersection there’re really only two kinds of track: straight or curved.
Alright, the track’s put together. We’ll dump the rocks into the quarry and get back to the battery situation.
The remote control, that takes two more triple A batteries. So that’s four.
OK, the train. Getting batteries into this thing is a task, and you’re going to need a jeweler’s screwdriver to get out the tiny Phillips head screws that are holding on the battery covers. This is tool is NOT included with the set. You might be able to get one as part of an eyeglasses repair kit. I managed to use a flathead but you really should be using a Phillips head here.
So one triple A in the train, and then you gotta take apart the first boxcar and jam two more triple As in there. OK, that’s all the batteries. Finally.
Hooking together the hopper car, flat bed and caboose is actually very difficult because the pieces are so small. It might be impossible if your hands are too big.
    Alright, showtime.
    Here we go.
What? Are you kidding me? The rocks don’t even come close to landing in the hopper car. That’s quite a miscalculation on the physics there guys. You have to physically move the base away from the track to get them to fall in right.
So basically every time you go around the track you have to reattach the base. That’s pretty bad.
Beyond how small the pieces of this toy are, they are also very light. Too light to be able to play with like you want to. Like here you have to hold the base with your other hand to get the trapdoor to open. And there’s not much room for your fingers to work. The pieces don’t have enough weight; the dumptruck, the conveyor. It’s very difficult to play with. The parts are just too chincy.
So between that and the poor design of the base, there’s no way to play with this toy in any practical way. Very frustrating. I wouldn’t recommend this set to anyone I liked.
Anyway, it’s put together. Thanks for watching and please subscribe to see more of our assemblies.

You’re the best! I bought this for $11 at Target and found out after opening the package that the instructions lack the proper set up on how to assemble the tracks! I’m glad I found your video, it helped me a lot!

You are spot on with this set. I bought this for my train obsessed four year old son about a year ago and I think he lost interest in it because of all the reasons you mentioned and eventually We lost the remote. Well, today he found the remote and wanted to play with it again forgetting about all of the issues. I put in new batteries in the remote and the locomotive but forgot about batteries being needed in the box car. It wouldn’t move. After an hour of frustration, I needed help. I THANKFULLY found your video!!! You helped solve our problem!!! Thank you so much for this video. Annnnd I was thinking of buying him another Powertrain set but, after you reminding me of some of the flaws in this set, not so sure I’m going to purchase another one. Do you have any recommendations on a train set you like? Thanks again!! Great video!!!

Unsubscribing from a channel just because of a horrible review is a really stupid reason to unsubscribe from a channel
