I’m going for a diagnostic mammogram tomorrow and have been feeling pretty uneasy about it. I found some nodules in my left breast. (I had stage 0 breast cancer back in 2012. I chose to just have a lumpectomy. )Drs wanted me to have radiation or mastectomy. I chose to only have the lump removed.
Thanks for your prayer card. It’s giving me Gods promise of peace. So glad I watched this tonight. This prayer card was for me I believe. ✝️❤️

Glue sticks are great when matching under arm seams and crotch seams. You don't have to sew over or move pins that cause the fabric to shift. They are also great for tacking seam allowances on slippery fabrics.

Great tips Jen. I found chop sticks at dollar tree. I use them for poking corners. I use the ponytail holders in place of rubber bands…they tend not to get gummy. I find parchment paper and wax paper for pattern tracing and pattern hacking. SOME of the scotch type tape…. Works great and inexpensive for pdf patterns…. Some are difficult to cut. Many of the items also make great pattern weights. Loved today’s prayer card. ❤

Chopsticks! I never thought of that! I just got hair scrunchies yesterday and it didn't even occur to me that you could use those for rolling up scraps. And I know better, because I've had the rubber bands gum up over time! DUH. Agree about the Scotch tape. The actual Scotch brand is good but their Jot brand, not so much. You are inspiring! I think I'll do a "don't buy this at Dollar Tree" video too!

For organization, cover cardboard boxes with gift wrap and label using those colored index cards. Can coordinate with room decor and have all matching, if you like. It’s a way Not to BUY stuff and also help the planet by not using more plastic. Live simple and it’s a win/win.

I use a hole punch on my pattern pieces to make it easy to mark dots. I have some vintage patterns and the difference in the thickness of the paper is quite something. Newer ones are so delicate.I trace or reinforce with freezer paper.

DT also carries fat quarters. There are rolls and folded squares of fabrics. You can use a tablecloth that has cotton on back on your wall for your quitting blocks on to check your quilt. If you need lace, there are tableclothes that look like lace. Good substitute. DT has lots of goodies‼️

I always enjoy a good Dollar Tree notions video! I use the Jot scissors for cutting paper and such in my sewing/craft room. I'll use a heavier utility scissor for cutting zippers, plastic and vinyl. My KAI scissors are only used on fabric!!! 😊 The little rotary cutting boards are great for putting between your fabric and pattern pieces when you need to punch out hole on the pattern piece so you can mark your fabric with an erasable pen. You can cut the boards down to 3"x3" pieces, getting several from 1 cutting board. Round the corners (give them a slight filing with a DT nail file to smooth) and they are ready for using to protect your fabric when poking holes in pattern pieces! I have a ba-zillion plastic bins in blue and green to keep various sewing projects materials together like quilt patterns and fabrics, garment fabrics and patterns, along with all the necessary thread, zippers, buttons, etc. They make excellent project bins and the side vents allow fabric to breathe and not mildew. LOVE 'EM!!! They stack well and don't fall over like zipper-lock bags. In the pet aisle, you can buy a dog leash and use the strap for bags and hardware for bag making and such. The glasses section has cords for hanging your glasses around your neck, and the cord can be used for making button loops for garments and bags, as can the hair elastics in the beauty aisle. In the stationary section, you can buy computer banner paper and use it for project pattern pieces (instead of taping together printer paper). And kids scribble pads (news print paper pads) are great for anything you need scrap paper for in a craft/sewing room. I recently bought a role of medical tape at DT to use as removeable tape, but it doesn't release cleanly or easily. Bummer. The plastic bathroom trash cans are great for putting in several areas in the sewing room for fabric scraps, threads, plastic wrappers, etc. And I use non-metallic pipe cleaners for getting into the small crevasses deep inside my sewing machine. They work great grabbing and hanging onto lint so you can get it out of your machine bed. I recently found and purchased a wrist pin cushion in the crafters section. Identical ones are 3x more expensive on Amazon or Temu. It has a hard backing, so the pins won't go all the way through the pin cushion and into your wrist. Ouch! Those are my DT sewing/crafting notions!

I sometimes use pdf patterns that I purchase, download and print. I keep several dollar tree or Walmart purchases in my room to use with those patterns. Glue sticks manjeri putting the pages together easier and faster than using tape. I use cheap colored pencils to mark alterations and cutting lines. Cheap rotary cutters and scissors are great for cutting out the paper patterns. I keep a couple of pairs of cheap scissors in the sewing room - you never know when you need to open packaging or cut something other than fabric! I also like to buy the zip top freezer bags at dollar tree. I find it helpful to keep things together in project kits using these bags.

I think they're just like anything at Dollar Tree - sometimes you can find them, sometimes you can't. But if you can, they're a great size if you don't know how much pegboard you want. And cheap! They also have other things beyond just hooks, like little containers and shelves that will attach to the boards.

  • @jeniferalvarez2914
    @jeniferalvarez2914 หลายเดือนก่อน

I was at Dollar Tree the other day. I got a pin cushion with a solid bottom and a piece of elastic so that you could put it on your wrist or around your machine (of course I can’t find my bag so I’m not sure if it’s long enough to do that, but you could easily add elastic to make it long enough). I also got double sided, washable, fabric tape. I wanted to see how well it worked. You can use this for so many things! And I got permanent fabric glue! It might be called craft glue, but it also works on fabric. They had two different fabric/craft glues and Mod Podge.
A few other things you can get from Dollar Tree is 1/4in elastic in various colors (I don’t know if she went over this in the video because at some point I zoned out for a bit). I don’t know how much you get, but it looks like quite a bit! But you may have a locally owned store like I do that sells elastic by the yard anywhere from .20 cents to .40 cents a yard, but my store only has black and white. You just have to think about things like that. Sometimes it looks cheaper because it says $1.25, but in the long run, is it really?
Also, as a sewist, when you’ve been working on a project for a long period snacks are great to have on hand! And you can’t go wrong with $1.25 snacks!
I didn’t know they carried a mini cutting board! It’s so cute! And I could use that! I also have never seen or noticed Velcro! But how much do you get? I normally get it from Hobby Lobby. They have 5yards of black or white for 4.50 and then they have a yard of all sorts of colors for 1.99.
Lately I go into the Dollar Tree and I have to stop and do the math to see if it really is a better deal because it can seem that way when it’s really not. Like you can get a pack of 12 sharpies in rainbow colors for $7.97 from Walmart. A fat quarter is $1.25 when Joann has a new section in their store where they have cotton fabric that’s always $2 a yard and will definitely be better quality than the Dollar Tree! I saw a minky fat quarter the other day at the Dollar Tree, but did the math and realized that it was just under the cost of getting a full yard from my local store that carries dead stock and products from companies that go out of business and I’d much rather give my money to them than the Dollar Tree and that way I get way more options. Their notions and needles are also really cheap and the store I shop at. It’s called Mill End if you’re ever in Reno or if you live here. It’s a great store! When I see “sew for cheap” type videos no one ever talks about dead stock stores (new sewists may not know what that is and may only go straight to Joann or hobby lobby unless they have a fashion district like LA). A family friend in her 50s or 60s that was kind of teaching me to sew had never been to Mill End (I’m not sure if she’d even heard of it and the store has been here for so many years).

I glued the little cutting mat on the bottom the plastic lazy Susan that I made from two round plastic tray-like plates from Wal-mart. It spins beautifully and because it hangs off the edge by about 1/4” it acts like a handle to rotate the mat when trimming. Most rotating mats are very expensive but this ran me around $7.

I always get some wrapping paper for pattern tracing/hacking. I love that it has the grid on the back. Also rolls of brown paper, super sturdy. And the bigger Manila envelopes for storing patterns. Magnets to glue to the bottom of a little dish to keep pins and needles.

I thought about including wrapping paper - but I wasn't sure if it was gridded and you can't see thru it. Doesn't matter though, it's still a great option for tracing paper! I hadn't thought about the manila envelopes but that's a great idea too. Thanks!

@@TodayinJensSewingRoom I stick with lighter colors and last time they actually had plain white (with the grid on the back) which is perfect 👌

Your video popped up in my feed and I am very glad it did. The dollar tree ideas are awesome but even more awesome (if that is proper English) is your ending to your video. Can never get enough prayer card readings these days and did you know that the dollar tree has prayer cards in a tiny little tin? Love those too. Count me as a new sub right now.
