    As a person diagnosed with social anxiety we can’t function right at public places it’s not only about being “ nervous “ but is like we feel like everyone is looking at us and feel pressured to even go in a place alone. Stops us from going to public places without having to panick or break down

      girl i always been like this too & i always call it social anxiety but then i be hearing people say it could be autism & when you look up autism it relates to like social anxiety so idek what i have but im like that! 😭 i can’t go anywhere alone bc if i do i feel like everyone’s looking at me or talking about me & one time i had orientation at a job w my bf but he had to leave bc his orientation was the next day & when he left i started panicking & asked if i could just come back tmr w him since he was my ride & we lived together & when they said yes & i left & got in the car i bursted out crying & was mad at him for leaving me 😭😭😭

      It just feels like they looking at you it’s like overthinking bad social posibilities and becomes anxiety and feels like everyone around you is or can be judging you idk you know it’s real when you and your palms sweat and when it’s so bad that you blush

    Social anxiety is weird. During presentations, interviews, just speaking infront of people makes me extremely nervous. It makes my heart race, my face turn red, and makes me overheated. My breathing turns irregular and just makes whatever I say sound like word salad or makes me stutter. It happens randomly since it depends on who I am infront of. In middle school I had no friends because I would just be scared of talking out loud. I started gaining more confidence in myself and saw me being able to talk out loud more. Overall I feel like it’s just out of pure insecurity and fear of being judged. I still struggle with it obviously and it affects my grades a lot. Sometimes I’d rather take a 0 on a presentation or oral assignment than actually do it. It’s all neurological and in your head at the end of the day. I know it’s real and I know that it just depends on each individual how severe it is or what triggers it too.

      I suffered from severe anxiety and consuming nuts with magnesium and drinking decaf green tea (which has l-theanine) helped SOOO much!!! It’s our diets that worsen it! Make sure you’re eating healthy. I promise this works!

    I completely disagree with Gero on the last question! I’m 22 and Im always around friends who smoke drink etc. I have never tried a sip of alcohol never smoked nothing . You are not who you hang around with . It’s up to you if you want to do what your friends do but your friends don’t define who you are . And if they don’t respect your decisions or boundaries then they’re not your friends! My friends respect my decisions and even answer for me when others outside our group offer me stuff!

    As a psychology student, social anxiety disorder (SAD) is defined as a irrational fear of social situations that are exposed to the individual. So it affects ppl in different ways. Some people are scared of social interactions which causes their heart to race, sweating, lack of eye contact etc. others struggle with public speaking so if they were to have to speak in front of lots of ppl or do a school presentation, they experience lots of anxiety in those moments which some of you guys talked about in the video. Ppl with SAD can either be treated medically, psychotherapy, of cognitive based therapy. So it’s not just something they can easily turn on/off. General anxiety is much different as it can affect more of the general population. Some methods that are newer in helping ppl with SAD is using VR technology bc it can help expose them to social situations in a controlled setting. So you guys did have a good understanding of it in some parts but I think you guys were mixing it up/ confusing it with general anxiety. SAD is a very real disorder and does affect many people severely.

    18:27 the biggest difference is that you’re nervous every now & then, & that’s totally normal. Imagine that every, single, day. You’re scared to do/say anything in fear of judgement. The way your brain automatically says, “just chill” someone else’s says, “just panic” cuz our brains just aren’t the same

      For me, this stems from my upbringing. Too many siblings, middle child, emotionally unavailable single mom, mean ass siblings bc they were also raised by that mom. I kinda felt like Kevin in Home Alone. I couldn’t say/do anything right to my parents or siblings. So in a full house, I found peace and comfort in being alone. No one was mean to me there. Now this affects my everyday interactions

    As someone who suffers every day with social anxiety. It’s more than just being nervous, you can’t just get over it or set the anxiety aside when you are going around other people. To put it into perspective let me tell you this. I am a receptionist and I take calls all day at work. Before the phone rings I am already wishing it wasn’t ringing, I am nervous to talk to people on the phone and then when I do answer the phone I begin to stutter because I was already over thinking about what my co-workers would think of me when they heard me answering the phone.
    Before I talk to anyone, in my head I am already planning what I am going to say and half the time I don’t even listen to what they are saying…….I am just preparing my answer in my head. While that is happening I am sweating and my heart rate is going up. The more I tell myself to calm down the more nervous I get. Social anxiety. 😭😭a lot of overthinking and stressing over situations and interactions with other humans.

    I use to suffer so much with social anxiety I couldn’t even go to the store, it was so bad my vision would get cloudy. I remember going to this packed ass buffet with my family and I cried before going in because I had so much anxiety. It’s not as bad anymore because I’ve worked on it. It’s hard to make friends or relationships because we come off as boring.

    my personal experience with social anxiety almost felt like my body would shut down, my words wouldn’t come out and my face would become extremely red, however over the course of a couple years i’ve noticed surrounding myself with extroverted people has drastically improved my social anxiety, don’t get it twisted though i still can’t order food till this day or go to interviews

    I’ve always felt like cheating can differ on a scale. For example, say you catch you s/o texting someone and there’s some flirting going on. If you’re able to catch it there, i feel like you should be able to talk to out and figure out what the issue with your relationship that’s causing them to seek that or even play along. On the other hand, if it passed texting and like they’re meeting up with people, than I’d say call it quits no matter what because at that point they are seeking others and it’s beyond crossing the line in a relationship.

    From someone who studies Psychology+Medicine, this is a simple summary of what social anxiety is:
    Social anxiety is basically overestimating the negative aspects of social interactions, and underestimating the positive aspects. It is the body+mind telling the person that they are not safe and there is something embarrassing or deficient about themselves, and, unless the person works hard to conceal or hide it, it will be revealed and they will be judged or rejected for it.
    Cognitive theory has explained anxiety as the tendency to overestimate the potential for danger. Patients with anxiety disorder tend to imagine worse scenarios and overthink the future, causing them to avoid situations they think are dangerous, such as crowds, or social interactions.
    It definitely is real and has a lot of research to back it up. Social anxiety can be treated though, its not chronic.

    i have social anxiety and it's annoying to know that ppl fake it cuz it's not fun and i've had to miss out on things cuz of it. for example i went to my first ever concert earlier this year and i started sweating, panicking, shaking and even crying cuz of how anxious i was cuz of the amount of ppl i was around and that's just a big reason why i don't like to socialize

    Being nervous and being anxious is completely different. I can get nervous about something but still follow through with it and feel better once it is done. However, when I get social anxiety, I walk into a room and immediately feel like people are judging me and talking about me causing me to break into sweats, I start shaking, and have panic attacks. When someone talks to me, I get awkward and stutter and when they walk away I overthink about what I said. Sometimes Its so overwhelming that I have to walk out to be alone and other times I break down in tears from being so overwhelmed. Then, when its all done and I go home, the whole night repeats in my head again and again sometimes for days and even weeks. I think of all the terrible, awkward moments, the stupid things I said, or the things I didn't say and be extremely bothered by it.
    When It came to job interviews, I'd try to walk in confident but once I sat down and started talking I couldn't look in the eyes, my voice would get shaky and it sounded like I was out of breath or like I was about to cry, I couldn't form proper sentences and I made it awkward sometimes, I'd get super fidgety and just felt really uncomfortable
    Social anxiety take a huge toll on a person and its something really fucking hard to overcome. 😏

      i relate to all of this girl :( especially the trying to walk in confident and faking it till you make it but honestly you can't fake it, the anxiety and thoughts are always there. but i always try to say "this time will be different" and even picture myself in my head being myself yet when im there in the social situation i can't do it. :(

    Social anxiety is definitely real, but it is true that people tend to self-diagnose when they should find a resource (if they can) to pinpoint where things can stem from and receive the help to work on it. I think it's hard to help someone if you haven't experienced it, but definitely saying "chill" doesn't necessarily help, but just let them know "hey, I might not know how you're feeling exactly, but know I'm here. What can I do for you at the moment?" and talk with them through what they feel. Really, just being there for them helps so much and that's what I've done for people I know with social anxiety.
    A way to face social anxiety is through exposure therapy and really facing what you fear because you have to trust yourself to get through it and even if that includes stuttering or being in your head, it's a process that will get better. The hardest part is really starting and staying strong with facing that social anxiety. "Fake it till you make it" type energy.

    As someone who suffers from social anxiety, I was never around people growing up. I have always been someone who loves to be home. When I am around a social environment, I always feel like people are staring at me, and when they laugh and whisper with friends there is always a feeling where I think they are just looking and laughing at me. Words never come out of my mouth and I am always shaking and bouncing my leg. Social anxiety is very scary and weird. Some days it hits you hard, and some days it doesn’t hit you as hard.

    My personal experience w/ social anxiety felt like people were staring at me, feeling nauseous, dizzy, and just people talk about me, covid really had a big impact to it since I was always at home and just not interacting with people, but going to therapy really helped me and having to interact with people did help over come it

    social anxiety is very real. i’m diagnosed with it and take medication for it. basically just think about how you feel when you would have to present in front of your class (ik most people get nervous/anxious with this). I personally get shaky, my voice gets shaky or my throat gets dry, I start to stutter a lot, I can feel my face getting red and I cannot make eye contact with people or else my symptoms will get worse. that how I feel when it comes to big things. when it comes to actually having a conversation/meeting new people, I immediately think that they’re judging every little thing about me even after I get done with the conversation. it just kind of feels like ALL eyes are on you and you overthink your every move bc of it. ik it’s hard to understand but just know that it really does suck and it’s not just something that you can easily tell yourself to “get over it” bc your thoughts feel like they’re consuming you

    Here’s my take on social anxiety. I see it as like fear of messing up or getting judged by someone. Maybe that person had a previous encounter or something where they went through public humiliation or something with their family. Or maybe sometimes like Jose said being kinda nervous to go to a party bc they don’t feel comfortable with a bunch of people or wtv idk tbh I used to think I had it bc I’d be nervous when a bunch of people were around me or wtv but now that I think about it I don’t really feel anxiety as much, I think it’s just a bit of nerves here and there

      Honestly the background of it can be that but as someone with social anxiety it can be very very bad as not even wanting to leave the house to get groceries bc im scared to get percieved by other ppl and its so mentally tiring, also some people can be born with it or it can get developed later in life

    The anxiety topic is simple. Its a problem when it affects simple daily tasks and it starts "controlling" your life and decisions. Your life revolves around fear and it can feel uncontrolable. Of course everyone has felt nervous about something, but its not the same as dealing with anxiety and fear every day, and it could be over the simplest tasks like talking to a cashier or just walking through a store. It can be hard to understand if you've never experinced it but thats reality for a lot of people.

    as a person with social anxiety, it’s basically being scared about what people think about you so basically for me it’s like if i’m talking to someone i’ve never seen before or met and i’m being forced to talk i’m afraid of messing up and stumbling on my sentences and my body gets all shaky & hands get sweaty because i’m afraid they are gonna judge me.

    i have social anxiety, official diagnosis i went to therapy all of HS . basically it really just started from childhood for me, i was fine until traumatizing social situations , bullying , it just really started around there i started being super anxious and scared of what other people were to think about me . in my head it’s like damn these ppl r all staring at me they’re judging me or like when i wanna talk and say something i start blushing , sweating , heart beating fast and it’s hard to breathe bc all these negative thoughts r racing in my head . so when i try to talk or something it’s like my brain goes blank . that’s why it’s helpful to write stuff down so i won’t forget when i’m in the moment bc i’m so focused on being anxious . and i can’t just “chill” bc like it’s a mental disorder, my brain automatically thinks i’m in danger when i’m in a social situation and therapy helped me rewire my brain lol like change my thoughts and also exposure therapy .

    after having my baby I felt so unsafe in public places bc this world is so scary. Going out alone or with my baby I never felt safe so talking to people, trying to trust people or going out alone was so hard and is still so hard for me. I guess you can say you never really know how other people feel until you go through it but yeah that’s how it feels

    I’ve been dealing with anxiety since I was little and it was very difficult for me to be social. I do believe it’s because of trauma because since I was little I’ve had people constantly trying to embarrass me or would whisper things about my appearance. Also because when I was little I always felt at a young age people wouldn’t try to be friends with me because of my appearance but even when my appearance got better I felt like now the friends that I make are jealous and just switched up on me. I’ve had guys judge my appearance as well and it’s made me uncomfortable at times. When I get anxiety it’s like I can’t function at times, I can know some thing but if I’m anxious it might just leave my mind and like it won’t come to mind because I’m so anxious. I also have triggers due to passed events. I always have constant battles with myself because sometimes I think what is this person thinking, did I come off as rude bc I wanted to say something I wanted to speak but I was just so anxious? Sometimes I even feel like I can come off as rude because my anxiety can sometimes make me not think straight in order for me to think and say something in a proper way because I’m just having like mini panic attacks. And if someone is giving me negative energy it also triggers it because I’m very sensitive to peoples energies so if I feel good energy it’s easier for me to interact with them. The only way I’ve been able to help myself is through therapy and just doing things out of my comfort zone telling myself that if I do these things it will help me grow rather than staying in this bubble of anxiety and regret of missing out on experiences because I have social anxiety. Also just teaching yourself how to stop caring about what people think because at the end of the day they aren’t living your life we all have different goals, they aren’t paying your rent, they’re not providing anything for you so why should you care and most likely people who judge you are either jealous or miserable with themselves as well so they project their pain onto others. Also learning how to set boundaries even when your anxious to tell someone that they are crossing a boundary that you have. It’s all about healing your traumas and learning to love yourself. Because although you may have had these things happen to you or your nervous about interactions with others you have to remember who you are and be proud of your character, you know that you are kind, caring, helpful and so much more remembering that you are a good person and that’s all that matters instead of what others feel about you or their energies because that’s them and not you, you’re not being equally disrespectful or rude and even if they are just letting karma do it’s job is enough because at the end of the day they will have their lessons as well.
