    I have been playing with the idea of changing government types based on situations. Dictatorships are best for small focused empires. You get complete control over the government and can in act some pretty powerful laws quickly as long as you have the influence for it. It also allows you to switch policy on the fly so you can do things like use oracle of science and science laws to snipe a high end tech then switch to industrialists to pass laws to boost production. So there are things you can do with a dictatorship as long as you can keep your people happy and know how to use the parties main laws.
    Republics are more geared towards tall empires. The boost in law strength makes up for having less systems. The fact that election actions cost dust means you can use more of your influence on laws and diplomacy while still keeping some control over your government.
    Federations are more of a middle ground government. You get more systems than a republic so you don't need the stronger laws. Election actions costing influence means you have less freedom with laws and diplomacy while still having some control over your government. Albeit slightly less control than a republic due to needing more influence.
    Democracy is probably the best way to go wide as each unit of population gives happiness effectively negating the majority of expansion disapproval. Though you do lose the majority of your control over your government. What you lose in focus you make up for in bulk though. Laws in bulk, systems in bulk, representation in bulk. If you throw in some selective terraforming and happiness techs it would easily be possible to sit on a 40+ system empire and be ecstatic.
    So depending on your empire size and how much control you want you can reformat your government to better reflect your play style and strategy.

      No problem. Strategy and problem solving are what I do best. I tested out a wide democracy today and it works fantastically. I was unfallen with 25 systems all 98% ecstatic. You do need a few laws or luxuries, but it is doable to be wide. So if you want to go wide it is a good idea to reformat your government into a democracy then pass a few happiness laws and your good to go. I would have gone for more but wide isn't my style. Things get difficult to manage when you have that many systems.

    What I love about the Cravers is despite the fact that they are hated by everyone some are still managing to sneak into the pictures as a normal guy doing his work; example now participating in Anarchy XD

    your videos are great, i appreciate the time put in to explaining how these things work. Even after a playthrough or two, I miss the differences of different aspects of the game and its helps to know of benefits that can be used in strat.

    5:28 You mixed what you were saying here about Dictatorship. Dictatorship doesn't get 2+2 law slots. It just has a set amount at 2.

    Dictatorship doesn't give +2 law slots, it sets those slots to 2, meaning that you can only have 2 slots for the entire game(except cravers get autocracy, which is basically a dictatorship but with 3 law slots instead of 2).

    Another nice thing about influencing elections is that it can switch the amount of representatives for each ideology a fair bit. At 12:01 you can see there are representatives of all the ideologies but at 12:55 there are now only religious, pacifist, and militarists in the empire. So now all those other people who would have otherwise felt "unrepresented" now will as they switched to an ideology that is in the senate giving you a few extra points of approval, this is nice when your only a few points short of a threshold.

    • @WaervynsWorld
      @WaervynsWorld  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, I think it's a bit sad though! I think it would be cooler if you could rig the elections, but that people wouldn't agree with it and thus you would incur a happiness hit.

    • @HawktheHedgehog
      @HawktheHedgehog 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ya, its a bit silly to think that so many people flipped their entire world views just from a bit of lobbying. Maybe if there was something like you could rig the election but there was a chance you get found out and either get some unhappiness or maybe even straight up anarchy for a few turns

    Hi, Waervyn! Enjoying your videos!
    I've noticed that quests "change" depending on the paths you choose, making them harder or easier. Do you think you could go through the questlines and identify which paths give the most rewards, are the hardest, et.c? I know that would be ALOT of work, and probably would need a video for each faction, but I know I would very much enjoy such videos, and probably refer to them alot as I play the game.

    Do you think Federation is pretty useless? I feel like you either want to go Republic or Democracy. Dictatorship is probably not ideal due to penalties for picking contrary politics, but at least it does something. Federation seems like you would always want out.

    • @WaervynsWorld
      @WaervynsWorld  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I switched to democracy when I played United Empire, but I haven't really compared them properly. The extra happiness of a democracy is nice, and so are the better laws for republic. However, as a federation you also get happiness in a sense, as you don't get expansion disapproval as quickly due to the fact that you can colonize more. If anyone has experience with which ones they thought worked better, please leave a comment so we can discuss! :)

    • @zeroisnine
      @zeroisnine 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Waervyn's World the main impact I can think of is if you'd rather spend Influence rather than Dust to Influence an election, but I don't think that's work it.

    • @Trifler500
      @Trifler500 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Federation becomes valuable if you like to colonize tons of systems.

    • @baichuanren885
      @baichuanren885 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Federation is more or less an alternative to Republic. It's for races that want to expand a lot or some what get more influence than dust in early to mid game. Note that depends on galaxy size the bonous of colonization also changes. So it's basicly like republic for different play style.

    • @zeroisnine
      @zeroisnine 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I checked a saved game to see how the over colonization penalty works. I was a Democracy as Horatio with 18/12 for colonies i.e. +6 colonies over the limit and my Empire was Ecstatic. None of my laws gave me approval (I was a Militarist, but at the time I was only at cold war), and in fact I had both Super Tax Act and Cram Exam Act, which both gives a -1 approval per population.
      My limit was 12 due to the research that gives +2 systems before disapproval. My systems had a -60 over colonization penalty, so it seems like you get -10 approval for each colony over. Therefore, if Federation would give me +2 systems before triggering disapproval (unlike in the video, dunno why, but was on fastest), it is effectively a global +20 approval on all systems.
      So I guess Federation does help you initially on systems up until the new system has 20 population, but after that Democracy provides more approval on the system.

    • @WaervynsWorld
      @WaervynsWorld  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you mouseover the happiness level of the systems you can see what causes the big malus.

    • @960victor

      Maybe someone is hacking you. With hacks the IA can change the ideology of one system, and if they pick a big one, can start an anarchy

    Hm... i think you are wrong about dictatorship. You dont chose wich faction you want to have. When i play horatio i allways end up with Ecologist, no matter who i back up and no matter who people vote. So i think when you change your goverment on dictatorship you get first vote that and party that wins will be your rulling party as long as you have dictatorship. Correct me if im wrong.

    • @WaervynsWorld
      @WaervynsWorld  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can definitely switch from ecologist to something else if you are in a dictatorship with Horatio.

    Republic vs Democracy ? Oppinions?

    • @zeroisnine
      @zeroisnine 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Republic is generally better, but I think they both have their place. I probably would only look to Democracy if I needed the approval. Otherwise, I think the improved laws are better than an extra law, particularly one you've unlocked extra law slots and potent laws.

    • @siZeDcuBe
      @siZeDcuBe 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Republic is better if you're making plenty of dust and need to sway elections, Democracy is better if you're making plenty of influence and don't.
