The On Roger Pro is the Roger Federer's first signature shoe which is focused on stability and comfort. But will On's first tennis shoe hold up to the the durability test and teardown?

This is a crazy and revealing video. The Nike Zoom Vapor and the other models that Federer had worn during his career were known by their extremely narrow format. It shows that Nike made custom shoes for Federer.
The carbon fiber was originally used in Sampras’ Nike Oscillate. A shoe that Federer wore as a junior player. Then, to cut costs, Nike withdrew the carbon fiber plate from its shoes. It maintained the carbon fiber in some pro stock shoes though. I am happy that Federer brought this feature to his authorial shoe.
Yup I still have a pair of air oscillates with the carbon fiber plate - you also can’t mold carbon fiber to certain shapes so that’s another reason Nike doesn’t use it , trying to make unique shapes
@@FootDoctorZach This is great! I dont have it anymore. In my opinion, the Nike Air Oscillate is the best tennis shoe of History. Comfortable and adaptable to several game styles.
Somehow, Nike manages to produce Nike Zoom Vapor with the carbon plate to Dimitrov. I dont understand why Nike has adopted the narrow mold to most of its shoes.
I love how On made the shoe almost replicate to Federer’s actual custom shoes, while Nike looks a lot more different especially at the bottom

Good Morning. Could you let me know if there is a difference in the traction of the asics tennis soles (clay) in relation to color? white minus track and black plus track.
Lateral Flange = Lateral Stability. I find that at my age, stability and balance upon setting up on a stroke is possibly the most important factor driving my tennis show purchases. I gave up on my DIadora Blushield Fives (How could I?) when I measured the cross sectional width at the forefoot and heel, they were significantly narrower than my Adidas Boost basketball shoes that i wear instead. What tennis shoe can you think of that has that WIDE footprint?
Right now I have the barricade boost from 2016, and I really loved the support it gave. The only issue I had with is was that my toes would jam in the 10.5 sizing. What sort of shoe would you recommend and should I consider sizing down?

Im thinking about getting a pair of these.. i have the Cloudflyer 4 for workouts (awesome shoe), but want that same comfort for a more casual wear around instead Nike court visions.

Thanks Zach. Can you please review Adidas Grand Court 2.0 as a Tennis shoe? I know these days they are used as Lifestyle shoes, but these were vintage classics and were used in Tennis. Do they still hold their worth in hard court tennis these days? It would be great to know.

Hi. I watched most of your videos bit still can't figure it out. I'm a high level player. Got narrow feet, high arches, but a sagging arch issue on the left foot, which causes some achilles heel issues. Which shoe would you suggest? Really struggling with finding something. OTC sole helps but not enough. Thinking of the new Barricades. What do you think?
There may not be a best shoe for you , for some foot issues it’s only corrected with a custom orthotic - I’d check with a local doc to see if they can’t correct for that - my favorite narrow supportive shoes ATM are the yonex eclipsion 3
How big would you say the toe box is compared to say the revolt evo 2.0?

What is the difference between the Roger Pro Tennis shoes and other branded tennis shoes such ASICS and Nike?
I just tried on a new pair. What I could not tolerate was all that extra material on the outside of the forefoot toe box: it really felt as if the shoe was trying to over-pronate my foot. As a result, I'm returning them. I supposed they've designed that to support extreme lateral changes of direction on hard courts... it's not for me...

I have see basically every review you have made. This is the first time you made a graffiti of a players feet. Now I can use a term to explain my problem. My feet are a bit like Roger's. I bought the assics solution speed 2. On my right foot I get pain on the styloid area. I feel like I am stepping over something that's very hard. What other shoe you tested are wide and or soft in that area? And idea shoes for tipe of foot using a graffic like the one on Fed's feet. Bro, Super great and usefull video for me. Thanks. Also have what I guess is a Taylor's Binion. But it does not bather me that much.

Do you like the super feet flex max insoles for outside foot tendonitis and for bad ankles and knees and high arch and wide feet?
That’s a lot for an over the counter orthotic to accommodate for- I’d be going custom if it were me

Which shoes have a wide forefoot area but a regular heel area? Solecourt boosts and blushield 5s put too much pressure on my forefoot but my heels are moving around in them too much

I contacted On and apparently they are trying to get the next batch of these shoes available before the end of 2021. Hopefully that works out given all the global consumer goods distribution delays of late. Either way I plan on getting a pair of these shoes and I want to make sure I get the sizing right...would you say even though the last in this shoe is for Roger's inflared foot, it is wide enough for a straight/flat foot to be comfortable without sizing up? For reference I have to size up for Vapor Pros because of the inflared last. Also in your Tennis shoe spreadsheet, what is the difference between your 'wide' and 'generous' fit categories?
Yeah they’re really wide- I’d say they probably fit most feet just because they’re so expansive in the mid and forefoot - wide would be around a 2E and generous means it expands to fit wider feet - like the Ubersonic 2 for example- more on the medium side but it’s so flexible it’ll fit most feet- you could also say generous would mean breaks in well for wide footers

Yeah I wouldn’t- if you wait you’ll get them cheaper/ or try and time it like it did
I was fit for the 11.5 size, however, after I wore them 2 times on court, both of my pinky toes has terrible blisters on them. Do you think the fit is to blame or is this just normal break-in period for these Roger Pro's? Thanks!
Probably fit, remember these are made to Roger's custom last so it may not match up
Can you / will you do a review on the new On Roger Clubhouse Pros? They came out recently and are bit cheaper than the On Roger Pros -- given the tread pattern, they seem like they will be more durable.

People have been talking about Federer's footwork and movement slowing down being a factor in his matches this year so far, and his change in footwear may be part of that.
Yes, his age, year long break from the sport, and recent surgeries greatly affected his game this year. But it would be interesting to see how much adjustment needs to be done when you switch shoes.

I don’t think it’s the shoe doing that- just getting older , post surgery ,honestly the lighter shoes probably would have hurt him more at this point
I wish the review was a little longer. I wonder how the shoe box looks like? wondering since they are running wide do you need to tie them extra tight, or can you keep them loose?

Yeah that’s a tough list to make as most aren’t great but there are some gems - right now my favorite is the kyries but that’ll probably change as I test more out- stay turned
So do you buy multiple pairs of the same shoe and tear down one before the performance review and keep the other to play test, or do you just buy one pair and tear it down after you’ve already played in it?
Buy it- review it and make notes - play in it- tear it down - then edit both videos- it’s a lot of work in a short time but makes for fluid videos from one to the other

I believe the the ones they sell for retail are not the same as the PE (players equipment) similar to the racquets and strings they use. So cutting up the shoe is a little too much for me; but knowing what the retail product is made of is also good.

I can't find the answer to if I can wear the rodger for tennis. I know they are strick as to what shoes they let you wear on court. Not the rodger pro but the ones I can buy. Is there a way for me to know if a shoe I chose has the right non marking rubber on it.
They aren’t meant for tennis playing - just casual wear
I thought about that after sending that. I've only ever bought one pair of tennis shoes but I bought tennis shoes because my toes slide out the front of the shoe while playing.

It's hard to think that even if I was a pro that they would be a good investment. Footwork is the most important part of the game. Didn't we decide that they would maybe last 2 hours on court. I think I'm going to go all in on new balance. How dumb would it be to have 2 different shoes. One that is used a lot for sliding and the other I can't even think what the other foot would need. Grip maybe to push off with it.

I think I have feet a little bit like Roger Federer. I have a longer middle toe and wide in the front. I'm 181 cm and have a size 46 in shoes, I think that's a 12 in US. I wonder if this shoe would be comfortable for me? I have trouble sometimes to find well fitting shoes.

Great video! My feet measures as a true 10D and I got this in a size 10.5 bc I was told you should go up 0.5 in tennis shoes. Something about your feet swells when you run.

Depends on your goals- wait until the playtest and you’ll see what I mean
These are a LITTLE pricey, but they are absolutely not the most expensive on the market. Almost every one of Yonex's shoes start at a higher price.

I put in the video the length is long and fit is wide and that I could have gone down 1/2 - I can’t say for everyone’s individual foot but that was my experience with them

haha Ive broken carbon fiber into a million pieces before and it makes its so hard to evaluate it - seems weird but you have to be a bit neat on the sagittal dissection so I can get accurate stack heights

Would you buy another pair just for yourself to play in or would you go for another pair of shoes? For me durability does matter as I would want to use the pair for at least 4 month.
