I've never laughed so much at a reaction of a non-kpop fan, this was fun, I would totally enjoy watching more!! I don't know about the songs though, Stray Kids have so many it's hard to decide :') Someone recommended Chronosaurus, Side Effects and Awaken, which are some of my favorite skz songs so I'll vote for that too!!
I had a riot doing this video with Leslie. We kept laughing when the pause button was hit. We'll definitely be doing another one. I think those are some good song recommendations. We'll see what day she winds up coming over next week.
This was so fun! Skz was the first kpop group I actually enjoyed listening to. I also tend to gravitate towards alternative rock. Your friend might enjoy Side Effects, Chronosaurus, and Awaken. These are the ones that really hooked me 😁 Thanks for all the hard work you do!!!
That's interesting for a non Kpop friend to react. However, the MV sounds over your friend's talking. Next time please adjust it so I can hear exactly your guest 's comment for Stray kids's video. Thank You.
Thank you. I noticed after the fact how poorly we could be heard when the audio wasn't paused. I'll make an adjustment in the future. This is the first time I've shared my microphone with someone.
I was not expecting this! It's was a shame Leslie (I hope I said that correctly) audio was a bit low during the song, but listening to her opinion was very interesting (Felix confusing everyone everywhere). Your friendship seams amazing and this was fun! Things went down very fast in the end haahahaha
Yeah, that's about how it is whenever we get together. It's a riot. I'm going to adjust the sound settings next time, because she's onboard with doing another.
Such a fun video, thank you! I almost spit out my food at my laptop screen from laughter at you two. Leslie is so comfortable on camera which is really fun to watch. Too bad SKZ isn't her taste, but that's okay! Man you really gave her a baptism by fire with Rock Street Version and Red Lights, LOL. Usually when i try and introduce people to kpop i start with the most "normal" and palatable stuff i can find. Even though this isn't really Leslie's thing, i would certainly enjoy more videos of you two if you feel like it. The combination of you two is very fun!
Thank you! Leslie usually comes over for most of the day once a week. She's up for learning more about Kpop. We'll find something she likes. I thought I'd throw her deep end and watch her flail. It's the small joys in life...
This totally reminds me of me and my friends when I made them listen to kpop for the first time 😂 I'm vibing and they look slightly confused (but since even the most sceptical one of them said "You know, Kpop is actually ok" I now feel free to bless their ears with great music and put a lot of kpop in our shared playlist xD )
I think she is ok hahaha... Try Day6. They are more rock-based band. For Stray kids, try the English version songs like double knot or try the slower songs or more normal songs... I hope you know what I mean hehehe.. since she like vampire type, I think "up all night" will be interesting to watch too
Thank you! I'm noting down those recommendations. We'll see how many we can get to next time around. Day6, too. I've never reacted to them, myself, so we might be able to first time listen to them together.
I'm only at the start of watching you two banter and thinking of what you said during your minchan 2 kids room reaction... If this is the friend you mentioned then, I 100% see it 🤣
Oh goodness. I think Avery would love SKZ. She doesn't look as much like Hyunjin as she used to when she was younger. I might have to figure out how to do a video with her. They're both busy with college right now, so it may take a bit.
I love hearing someone who never knew K-pop comment on K-pop because they always have interesting perspectives and opinions! I wanna see her reaction to maze of memories, awaken, tortoise and the hare, 3rd eye, side effects and district 9 so please do another video with her!! Also the mv's are louder than the commentary so please fix that...maybe lower the mv sound? Idk. Idk if all of those are rock but those are the ones that came to mind. P.S. Also if more than 5 members is a lot to her then the whole NCT might surprise her... I think there's 21 members now? Used to be 23. Idk, not a fan but I'd heard some of their music.
Thank you for the suggestions! Definitely going to do another video with Leslie. She was a good sport. I'm noting down all the suggestions. I'll tell her about NCT just to see how big her eyes get.
Get her to listen to some DAY6, might be more her thing (they're a 5 😉) 'Sweet Chaos' or 'I Wait' or 'How Can I Say' maybe I'd also be interested in what she thought of 'Chronosaurus' from Stray Kids, that's one of my faves
Stray Kids are my favorites but I really don't think they were the best choice to introduce someone to k-pop, especially someone who doesn't like rap. SKZ builds their songs around raps. You should have taken other groups like maybe Ateez or others with strong vocals and good rappers as well but just "surrounding" the singers. There were maybe other choices of songs, dunno. It's too bad she was laughing during most of Slump, this might have been the most appropriate for her. Couldn't hear what she was saying anyway, but she wasn't really paying attention to the song.
I'll take some measures to fix the mic issue next time around. I actually didn't know her music preference going in. Funny the things you realize you don't know about your friends. I've been getting some good suggestions for more rock-based groups that may appeal to her.
I feel like the western Boy Bands only sang, so it was enough to have 5 singers. But in KPOP you need good rappers & singers. So if every one would only do 1 thing, than to make it even, you should need at least 10, to match it to the western 5 singers per boyband :D
Good point! Plus, they really weren't expected to dance. It was more along the lines of emotionally singing into the camera with some arm swinging involved. Everyone was astonished when it turned out Justin Timberlake could dance well.
@@kpopauntie I remember the Backstreet Boys & NSync having some choreos, but not to the same extent. Now it looks just so easy when I see it side by side with KPOP groups 😅
@@schokigirl1989 Yeah, I actually went and watched one of their old MVs after this. I guess it was considered group dance back then. Stand in a line and kick your leg in an arch in unison. I'm sure there was more than that, but yeah, Kpop is on another level.
Thanks for the video. I also know some people who are not ready to give k-pop a chance, because they don't want to read the lyrics or the appearance/voices/number of members doesn't correspond to western standards (so smth they are used to). I think attitude plays a big role there: I feel like your friend didn't expect to like them, so no wonder she didn't. It is not smth bad, it is just like it is. No one has to like k-pop. I am really bad at genres, so I can't give good advices. But I can also like any music: I love Linkin Park a lot and I adore Stray Kids, so one defenitily doesn't exclude the other. I only have one request for the next videos: please either adjust the volumes, so that we can hear both you and the song, or add subtitles of what you are saying. I am not a native English speaker (I don't know if for them it was easier), so I barely understood anything you were talking about over the MV.
Thank you. I'm going to adjust the volume settings for next time. I've never shared my mic before, so I didn't realize how much quieter it would be. More volume! Leslie is fairly open-minded and ready to give it another try. It's just a matter of finding out where to fit the chisel to pry her open. We'll try again next week.
OK, if you are really going to drag your friend to a Skz concert, she's got to find some of their music that she can at least tolerate. So given what she did and did not like, try her with Winter Falls and Secret Secret (because both have lovely acoustic guitar), Scars (which is musically similar to Slump but without the falsetto, possibly too much rap for her though), Awaken has cool electric guitar, and maybe Back Door because of the cool bass. Chronosaurus might work, but I have a feeling she might describe it as "creepy". I really wanted to be able to recommend the English versions of Domino and Double Knot, but I think those might have the same issue--Domino, Double Knot, Wow and Drive also might seem "creepy" to her--there is a certain sort of feel to the beat they all share that might be what's giving her the vampire vibes. I'm not sure she'd like Side Effects, I think it shares elements of the sound style she didn't much like in Rock. I really think she'll prefer Ateez, to be honest. The Real, Deja Vu, etc. Also try seeing if Dreamcatcher is up her alley at all. Day 6 is supposed to be the alternative rock band of kpop, so try them, too--they don't dance at all, they play their own instruments, and there are only 6 of them. I don't know enough about them to be able to guide you there, maybe start picking videos by number of views? They do play their own instruments, and there are 6 of them (5 now since one has left). And make sure you give her her own mic next time, she became basically inaudible when the music was on, which was a shame since it was obvious she was being really funny. Kpop idol groups almost always have more members than groups that play their own instruments. That's because idol boy groups are essentially dance teams that sing, and you get better formation possibilities and more intricate stage pictures with more dancers. And pass on that Skz members would be pretty offended to hear what they do called twerking, the moves she might be thinking are twerking are actually called "popping" which is in dance technical terms a really really different thing, and something they trained a whole lot to be able to do well. These guys are not just flopping around vaguely and sort of sexily to the beat, they are dancing challenging choreography with precision, musicality and a high level of technical skill. That is actually one of the things that a lot of kpop fans like most about kpop, is the dancing. Some couldn't care less about it, but what gets streams and views are the mv visuals and the dancing, and streaming views have a huge impact on awards, charts, and in the long run, how much money a group makes.
Thank you for all the great suggestions. I'm noting them down. I'm determined to find something that she likes. It's all about taste. Whether it be different SKZ songs or a different group entirely. I haven't gotten into Day6, myself, so that might be something we can do together. I think she was completely oblivious on what to call the dancing to begin with. She is very thoroughly a white girl. She dances by kind of bopping up and down. She has no idea what to call a dance that isn't the waltz. And she'd probably call a tango the waltz, lol. But I agree, the dancing and overall choreo is a huge draw, especially with the larger groups that can put on more complicated stages with their numbers.
@@kpopauntie Yeah, it was pretty clear that the nomenclature of dance is not the way to get to her, it's just---"twerking" has certain connotations, ya know? Which she probably doesn't know about, so education seemed in order. She seemed a bit overwhelmed by all the visual input. Maybe try her on lyrics videos? Or some of the unit releases with fairly calm videos. Han's Alien, Seungmin's covers--Zombie is a Day 6 cover, you reacted to that recently. Questions to ask when looking out music for her might include: Is she really into the meaning behind the music/lyrics? Is it emotion that draws her? Or is music to her more about a mood in the background? Does she notice the vocals? The words? Are there any songs that she loves because she thinks they are funny? Does she like music that is super passionate/emotional, or does she avoid music that pulls her too far into a certain state? Try listening to some songs she loves, see what that tells you. And then ask her to point out if there is any part that particularly makes her like it, or if it's just a general feel that hits for her. It probably won't help much to ask her those questions directly. She might for instance answer "Well, I guess maybe some people could do that....maybe I do that?" to all the questions above. But if you are just hanging out, see if anything she says starts to fill in blanks. She doesn't really know how to name or describe the things that she likes in music, so you're going to have to infer from random clues and build and test hypotheses over time.
@@jadefrog Very good questions to ask, I agree. I know that she's into certain bands. Tshirts and everything. I can get her talking about those bands and draw out what it is that makes her like them so much. Maybe I'll even let her pick some songs to introduce me to in the genre she likes, and she can explain it me that way.
Thank you! I'm going to adjust my audio settings next time. I'm not used to sharing my mic. I think I'll be able to get her used to larger groups. It's less of why? and more of a why not? I'll see if I can find some Kpop she likes.
@@kpopauntie I don't know, I think I just got used to the average size that most groups have. Small groups with 4 members remind me more of western groups, it's not a bad thing, it's just not what I expect when it comes to kpop, maybe because the performance style of big groups and small groups looks a little different on stage. I don't know if it makes sense or if it's just me. But it's not something that prevents me from meeting groups like that. Blackpink, Mamamoo, Itzy, Aespa... I know and like them all. On the other hand, very large groups have always been and continue to be a "problem" for me. I usually don't even feel like getting to know more about these groups, maybe because with so many people it becomes harder to get attached to the members individually. And when it comes to kpop it's not just about listening to the songs occasionally, but really investing in getting to know the group as a whole. But in the end, if I really like the songs, there's no way. That's what happened with Stray Kids for me, I kind of ran away from them because at the time 8 members still seemed like a lot to me, but I kept coming back to the songs until I was so invested in them that I started paying more attention to each member individually and I fell in love with the 8 😂 But until today i haven't stopped to take a look at groups like Loona, Treasure, Seventeen... 🤷🏻♀️
@@aaa_mnd I absolutely agree. One of the things I'm liking about Kpop is how much I'm able to get to know the guys. It's also a big reason as to why I'm not reacting to more groups right now. I'm concerned that with all the large groups, I won't really be able to get to know anyone besides the surface level of listening to the music. I've gotten to know 4 groups that have altogether 29 guys. In the US, if had gotten to know 29 guys, I'd probably be reacting to 6 or 7 groups by now.

Maybe I'll even let her pick some songs to introduce me to in the genre she likes, and she can explain it me that way.
Loved the reaction. Show her EXO next... the vocal kings!!!
No one's suggested EXO yet. Great! I'm marking them down.
Yall were not paying attention at all! And talking over the song...
That's an accurate observation.
LOL if she thinks 8 is a lot, wonder what the reaction would be to Treasure, 12 members.
Complete and utter confusion.
@@kpopauntie LOL
Can you react to Nct beautiful it’s with all the members
Thank you for the recommendation.
Thank you! I'm going to adjust my audio settings next time. I'm not used to sharing my mic. I think I'll be able to get her used to larger groups. It's less of why? and more of a why not? I'll see if I can find some Kpop she likes.

I don't know, I think I just got used to the average size that most groups have.
That's what happened with Stray Kids for me, I kind of ran away from them because at the time 8 members still seemed like a lot to me, but I kept coming back to the songs until I was so invested in them that I started paying more attention to each member individually and I fell in love with the 8 😂
But until today i haven't stopped to take a look at groups like Loona, Treasure, Seventeen... 🤷🏻♀️
this comment was so big, I hope that despite the mistakes you can understand lol
@@aaa_mnd It's all good!
Darling seu som e muito baixo....aumenta um pouco rrsrsrs ❤️💋💖
Thank you. I'll be adjusting the sound for next time around.
