Looks to be a great camera. I'm not really ok with a super 35 sensor having that much rolling shutter personally though. I've owned a BMPCC 6K Pro, an S1H and an FX3 and to me, I can't unsee it in my old footage. I'll forgive it a little with full frame, but I guess this is why the Komodo is so popular for a lot of ops genuine first cinema camera. The Mavo is a totally legitimate choice too, I just know it would bug me after a while.
Hello there! I've been a dedicated follower of Kinefinity right from the Mavo Lf era. It's quite disheartening to witness fellow creators consistently disparage this camera, merely due to it not being a Red or Arri. Their over-the-top criticism contrasts sharply with the camera's genuine potential visible to anyone with a discerning eye. On a positive note, it brings me joy to see someone I actively follow take ownership of this camera. As I'm actively considering getting one myself, I eagerly await more extensive footage and field usage to aid my decision-making process. Given the scarcity of content surrounding these cameras, it's a much-needed development. Congratulations on your latest camera acquisition, my friend!
On another note, the dopest thing about this camera is the mounting flexibility. This is so awesome to me and really helps ensure the lifespan of lenses one own.
Excellent video and overview. I too use the XH2s and would love a comparison video from you. Having owned older kinefinity cameras this looks like an awesome natural progression.

yes cheaper glass (and sometimes better framerates due to read-out speed) but decreased lowlight performance is a big detractor for me. If you keep adding resolution but don't increase the sensor size you will end up with terribly noisy images
@@pierceklinke13 While that is true and have ran into some pretty noisey shots, theres ALWAYS lights where I shoot or we bring lights with us...as anyone would on most shoots. If our final image in post is still noisy? We just denoise. Denoising has really come a long way in my opinion. I think full frame/less noise is good for run & gun type shooters and thats where i will prefer a full frame camera. But weve done some very professional shoots with the FX30, in low light, and they look so spectacular
Excellent breakdown of the menu!! Now I know the camera :D, Only special request I'd have is comparing it to the S5IIX... but thee X-H2s is good enough and greatly appreciated. Can't wait to see more on this beast of a cam.
This is a superb camera at a very affordable price. Great choice on the super 35 too. One question I had was, what colour space transform settings would you use when you take this footage into Resolve for grading? Like, what will be the gamma and colour space that you input? Like for braw, it is simple, same for Arri, we go Arri wide gamut and then Arr log c3 or c4 depending on camera.
Well done, now get out there and shoot as much as you can so we can see how good this cinema camera is. Looking forward to all the future content, thanks for being so thorough in your videos.
Love the video. I am far from this camera in my career. I am a noob. I have the fujifilm x-s20 coming tomorrow. Looking to do bracketing and real estate videos for clients as I grow as a film maker. However, I love learning about cinema 🎥 cameras in the process and getting ideas (on a smaller scale) for TH-cam vids and my use cases for lesser tiered cameras.
really need to get familiar with red sensor and red r3d since many of my future project/intern need to have that, shouldn't spent expensive rental fee just to learn, so personally i would pick a red simply to learn more
Now that arri has 4k, why are any projects using reds? Rental costs aren't thaaat different. Netflix was using Red a lot but that was because they made a 4k mandate but arri has 4k now.
Congrats on the new camera. Strangely, I’m thinking in the not to distant future, you’ll be making a video about why you are switching from this to the Komodo OG or X. It’s just that the Kinefinity adds a lot of size and weight, but still lacks internal NDs, No Raw and is a brand most people have never heard of… so zero street creds. Service will likely be more changeling should you require a repair… And resale will be terrible as the market for this camera is much smaller when compare to the more established competitors. Personally I’m holding out to see what Komodo 6K Mk2 brings. I’m hoping for internal eNDs. Jarrod Land the CEO of Red mentioned the Mk2 is in development and the the X is not a replacement for the OG Komodo 6K… the Mk2 will be the successor to the OG. There’s a filmmaker on TH-cam named ANDBERY that did some great work with the OG Komodo. You should check him out. I know I love mine. I’ll replace it with the Mk2. In any case I’ll be curious to see what you do with the Kinefinity.
Makes sense what you’re saying! Where did Jarred talk about the og Komodo markII? I’d love to see nd’s in the Komodo but we don’t know still If they’re going to put them or not, they would put them in the V Raptor first right? What I really love about Kinefinity is the endless possibilities in aspect ratios, 3:2 and 4:3 are sweet
He mentioned it in a live stream with Scott Balkum. I don’t know that built in NDs are as important on a main camera. Those camera will be rigged six ways from Sunday anyway. A crash cam needs to be small so it can fit into tight spaces. Built in NDs means on less thing to need to worry about.
@@angryrabbitproductions1690 Great point. I'm dying for built in nd filters in small cameras, can't wait to see them. Did Jarred give any hint about the built in nd's or is just our wish and guesses?
I think RED's RF to PL adapter with eND is the solution they propose for those wanting built in ND on Komodo, X or Raptor. Being just released recently I very much doubt they'd release new generation of cameras that would cannibalize sales of that adapter anytime soon.
If you want internal NDs then just buy the mavo edge series, the komodo still does not have this feature available in the OG or X version (hell the V-raptor doesn't even have internal ND which for $25K is a rip off). They have added raw in the most recent firmware update as well for all of the mavo cameras. One huge thing that I don't think gets mentioned enough is having 2 full-size, powered XLR ports for audio on the mavo series is incredible. RED on the other hand has been notoriously bad for their audio I/O options and quality
