Also, don't eat too many cough drops because you can either develop an addiction to them or become immune to their effects. For your symptoms I'd recommend Cepacol. Whoever told you that got it all backwards. The main ingredients in most common throat lozenges, Menthol and Eucalyptus/Peppermint oil, are not psychoactive substances. The act as topical anesthetics. Therefore they are not addictive. Ironically, the main ingredient in extra strength gbCepacol is DXM (Dextromethorphan) which is psychoactive. DXM is a main ingredient in cough syrups and multi-symptom flu/cold pills that usually carry "DM" in the name. (I.e. Robotussin DM, Musinex DM) Abuse is commonly known as "Robotripping." Cepacol lozenges also contain the local anesthesic benzocaine. While not usually dangerous for adults, serious warnings have been given regarding products meant to treat pain from teething in infants. Benzocaine can greatly reduce blood's ability to carry adequate oxygen to tissues.
